  • Skegness, Lincolnshire.
Various shots in a Skegness factory show carriages for a new monorail being made from fibreglass and wood. Men are seen painting carriages and screwing headlights into position.
Several good shots at Butlin's Holiday Camp in Skegness of campers getting into the finished monorail carriages ('Butlins Monorail' is written in small letters on the front of the car) and going for a ride around the camp grounds. A large man in tight shorts and top tries to squeeze into one of the carriages (looks like a Butlins comedian). Great shots of the holiday camp in this sequence, some taken from the monorail; chalets, the boating lake, the roller-skating rink and swimming pools. Two women and a man get into a vintage car and drive alongside the monorail as a contrast between old and modern transport.

I remember riding the monorail at Skegness Butlins - must have been in the late 70s or early 80s.

Those door and windowless trains were still there until the early 90s- I've got a video from 1992 of me nearly falling out of one of the windows and having to be pulled back! Suprised they lasted that long, seems to be a health and safety nightmare! Were replaced fully enclosed trams the following year.
They have one of the old carraiges still on display, or at least they did last time I was there.

Looked nice. Butlin's generally looked better then. Looked pretty until they tore it all to pieces. Liked the different colour buildings.

Why did Sydney lose their monorail? It's a famous landmark of Sydney!

Probably something to do with "Health and Safety". Shame though. Looked nice. There were cable cars as well.

What a load of unsafe scrap. It needed doors. What idiot builds and elevated train without doors?
