Unfortunately, a full "movie" was never the intent. If you loop up "Captain Toad: The Musical", it's the same idea. They "promote" snippets of songs for a "musical album", but the "commercial" was the full extent of the project. AJ did have an outline of an entire Sonic movie written, in order to make the trailer make sense, but they never intended to actually film the entire thing.
