    This is a life changing book man. I read it once and found so many lessons. Some other youtuber summarized and found different lessons and now you with your summary. So many lessons in this book. This is the type of book you'd say "If there is one book you have to read, learn then this is it"
    I love one summary from one CZcamsr which said that you can learn knowledge from books but when are you doing to live life? Sure it's good to gain knowledge on how to journey through life but when is the time to live life? Where your experience and your wisdom matters. This was truly profound as it got me thinking also of all the self help books. Siddhartha had weight in words when he said that wisdom passed on sounds foolish. You have to live life.

    • @JeffreyMarr
      @JeffreyMarr  Před 3 lety

      This is something I was thinking about as well. Maybe there’s something in the water.
      You can read books and that is how you acquire knowledge. But then when you apply that knowledge and learn the lessons that the application brings, that’s when it becomes wisdom

    "He passes his enlightenment to Govinda by having him kiss his forehead?" Sounds like a fairytale the way you narrate it, to be honest. LOL. I read this book about a decade ago. Since then, I've learned a lot about Theravada Buddhism, which is the earliest school of Buddhism. Fast forward to the present day when a friend reminds me of the book and I decided to watch this film. I discovered inaccuracies in the story as regards Buddhism. One of them is that Siddhartha "became enlightened" but then left the holy life of a samana and became a householder again and worked as a ferryman. Arahants don't engage in worldly livelihood. But then I remembered that the book was a work of philosophical fiction. Nevertheless, this is a great story.

    • @JeffreyMarr
      @JeffreyMarr  Před 11 měsíci

      He didn’t become enlightened w the samanas though. He realized they couldn’t give him what he sought and left. He only became enlightened at the river

      Absolutely true: and in doing so create institutions that promote false knowledge, because their first priority is the survival and growth of their institution, whereas on path to nirvana it is n required to renounce all material desires and associated activity. This is not an austerity, it’s to enable the bhikshu to focus on achieving the objective.
      The Christian church is a good example of this idolatrous activity. And today, tragically we have Maharishi Mahesh yogi’s TM movement
      going down the same path, enticing initiates with promises of greater material achievements and more satisfying personal relationships

    An arrow and hitting the mark is part of Jewish and Christian belief. Sin is a word that means missing the mark. It's not the scary word it evolved into. It's about following a path and you aim for the end. If the arrow strays from the path, you miss the mark.

    I'm not going to put this nicely , this is a bunch of bullshit and inaccurate. I studied under a zen master that can trace his lineage back to Bodhi Dharma who can trace his lineage back to Gautama Buddha. Siddhartha was already a prince who then became the Buddha, he was prophecized by a Brahma when he was born to either be a great spiritual leader or military general/conqueror. His father did everything he could to shelter his life so that he would not find any spiritual truths. He followed the aesthetics when he left the palace after seeing a dead body and being shocked by that because he had no concept of death because of his father's sheltered his life. He starved in the forest until he found no truth , went and sat under a tree and died , he visited a light of pure bliss and then came back to his body , a woman walked up to him with a bowl of rice pudding and he ate. The rest is history ✌️
