- Worst whiskey we've tasted this year? Seems like it. We're in windy Tombstone, Arizona. Can we guess this whiskey from our friend Brent LBS. after only 5 sips? Play along all summer long with our 5 Sip Friday weekly series where we test our palates to see how we've grown as whiskey tasters during a blind whiskey tasting. Feel like I need to apologize for that one; I was indeed trying to get rid of it. I think amburana can be done well and I fell in love with the aroma, but I think it needs to be done with a subtle touch and most I've tried so far have been very heavy handed and off-putting in flavor. The Nulu was probably the most overpowering I've tried and borderline undrinkable for me. The amburana finish from RD1 has been the closest to what I envisioned; I'm also working on my own experiments with blending and finishing. I swear that the other 2 samples are a lot better.
Haha, we know you can do it right! We’ve tasted yours. And we loved having a clunker in the mix on 5SF. They’re the best episodes and Julie thinks it’s hilarious!
I have watched every single 5 sip Friday, and never have I ever seen Phil so over it and ready to move on with his life, haha. Appreciate you powering through. I think Brent Lbs. was trying to offload samples to get rid of his bottle 😂.
That one was the MOST amburana forward of any amburana finished whiskey I've ever had. You'll have that taste in your mouth the rest of the day - cheers!
I have one of these from quite awhile ago. Not sure if it is the same release as I didn't find mine that overpowering. I have a Doc Swinson's Amburana that would make this seem balanced. It is like drinking the milk after a bowl of cinnamon toast crunch. Amburana can get overdone in a hurry I think. We just started seeing the RD1 version around here that Brent mentioned. Heard good things about that one. You are troopers. This reminds me of the Geico commercial with the raccoons, "I can't get the taste out of my mouth" lol....well done...cheers!

I've had a pour of one Amburana finished bourbon... 1 sip and a drain pour. Just nope.
We've had 2 that we've liked, because they were subtle. Too many of these are heavy-handed.
I haven't tried any amburana whiskey, maybe that's a good thing? Curious if Brent sent this because he really likes it or as a punishment 5 Sip Friday? I love the base NULU Reserve so I'm glad you blinded this. Because if I jumped on the amburana train, it may very well had been a NULU offering.
Brent actually sent this about a year ago, when the Amburana-finishing trend was just getting started. If we hadn't tried any Amburana-finished whiskeys prior to this, we would have been very confused. It was a new and exciting thing back then, but we've never been fans.

Not at the moment. We have to buy those in bulk, so we don't offer them frequently.
I have to admit of all the finished whiskeys I've had I've never even heard of that and thank you by the way for your source I won't mention them just in case but initials S.P. I've done very well by them .🥃
My favorite Amburana Finished is Barrell Amburana, because you can still taste the bourbon. 🥃
