In this video we are working on Audi S5 V8, 4,2FSI. The car was delivered on a recovery truck in poor condition. There was no MOT, because it was traveling for 14 months from workshop to workshop and nothing that was done did not help. So we put some work into it and make it road legal again! Have a look at the progress in the video.
We replaced:
-Timing chain kit
-Rocker cover gaskets
-Front / rear crankshaft seal
-Midle gasket for oil check valves
-Water pump gaskets
- Thermostat
-Starter motor
-Rear level sensor
-Refurb rear subframe / ofset washers / bolts / nuts
-Oil change twice with BG flush
-Cluster was replaced / coded / milage corection on cluster
-Generaly clean the whole car

A someone who has an s5 (2013) I saw the car at the beginning and thought "who did this to you, you poor baby?" I love my car, but that 4.2 is an amazing engine, and it is heartening to see you bring her back to health. Great job!
Same thoughts as mine. I have owned a 4.2 S5 a few years ago, it is a good car really, and it has aged very well esthetically in my opinion.
@@MrJef06 i third this 2011 s5 here amazing ride !
I own a 2009 S5 with the updated inlet manifold. Wonderful car if rather scary mechanically. I note on a couple of videos you mention using VCDS to diagnose the operation of the engine timing and solenoids. I would be really appreciate a video on how to use VCDS to indicate the state of the timing, and isolate potential issues, prior to having to remove the entire engine and gearbox for a visual investigation.

6000 pounds? For all that work? In Denmark it would have been at least twice that amount. Great work, where did you learn to work on complex engines like this. Crazy amount of knowledge. Thanks for sharing
Hi,
Thanks for watching , well Miroslav was working for Audi for a while , I learned the hard way. Bought myself a V8, possibly everything was wrong with it so that was my first and very expensive experience ... Since then we try to do them on a daily basis . For ÂŁ .... we can make a living out of it and some jobs are more tight with budget some are better.
In Croatia you dont know who you go to....even if you have double the money
Try doing it in Norway, repairs cost more than the carâŠ
in balkan it costs like 2000 max
@@dado5162 yeah but the work is shit lol
Amazing work. I love the 4.2L CAUA V8. I know that was a lot of work but that engine is so good they deserve to get a second life.
âas usual absolutely brilliant!! i could watch this stuff all day!! thank you for the effort and keep it up!!!
Indeed this format and content is excellent!
I need this for 2.0 cjaa tdi motor, please!
Well done guys! Subbed!
Great vid. Nice to see someone take care and do a decent job. I donât like using garages but would use these guys.
Really liked the time lapse video of yâall doing the entire removal of the engine, do more videos like this, we like to see it đđ€đŒ btw gonna order some of yâallâs merch/hoodies very soon !! Love what yâall do btw amazing videos extremely informative and not boring commentary love it !!
Great work. Total respect.
Im now convinced Audi mechanics are the best in the world because they get the most practical experience.
Lots of dedication and know how getting these German beasts back in top shape. Love my older 911 but my daily is a trusty Toyota 100 series Land Cruiser.Luckily haven't had to sell a kidney to keep it going!
Informative as usual. Thanks đ
Awesome video per usual! You should get a mic, it would be so much easier to hear you when youâre standing by the cars talking! Thanks for the content man
Love these videos, keep it up. Great work!
Thanks for sharing your amazing job, the things look like very easy to do but are many engines and time behind them
u make this job art like man, i enjoy your videos....theres no bad engines, cars, thers only bad mechanics, and you are the one and rare oposite example....i hear theres Miroslav next to you sometimes, so i say hello to Miroslav, who must be from Balcan, as I am....wish you guys all the best, u realy are something special....lots of stuff wee can learn from you, and its free....thank you
I think you do w really good thorough job and you seem very honest. I'll be bringing my rs3 down to Brum even for a service
Wow, and thanks for explanation on costs - expertise does not come cheap, but then car running for another 12 months, after standing for so long :)
Love the video, excellent work, just the kind of mechanics I would love working on mine. đđđ
Great vid. I have a 2014 S5 4.2V8 manual with 12000 miles. I was cringing at the beginning of the vid. Definitely road hard but nice work to get her back on road.
Not sure if you know, didn't see it in video but the coolant passages that go through the timing covers have 2 o rings each. As in 4 total. The tubes are pressed tight into the cover and if you separate it you will find another crunchy o ring.
I have an 09 S5 do all my own work, at 3:57 I already knew the biggest oil leak by the layout of oil. (the figure8 oil filter pipe gasket). at 7:14 confirmed hahaha!! these are great cars but they are a bit of a pain to work on!
Did you replace the upper oil pan gaskets?
You guys do fantastic work
Thanks for watching , hopefully will keep you entertained in the future as well
Very nice job ...
Et toujours , avec de belles piĂšces d origine !
La garantie d une tranquillité pour le client .

Great job guys, both of you are very professional, explained as much as you could,so everybody could understand. By the way,we are coleagues,Im a mechanic too,Im from Serbia, and Im also working on exclusive cars, but mostly on Audi's . I had S8,and just like you,I bought it with million problems,so I needed to fix everything. I wish you all the best in future projects and maybe one day,Im gonna put some videos on my youtube and we will make podcast or whatever. Cheers đđđđđ
Thanks for watching ! All the best in Serbia, if you visiting U.K. give us shout , pop down
Excellent job sir .... great video .
Hi, I found that dry air in a can, from PC world, keyboard cleaner works amazing to clean carbon build up, no mess at all and leaves it as new, please try it, just get one can and try it on a old engine, you will be shocked,, I'm no mechanic but i had to change the oil filter housing gasket and oil cooler gasket on my audi s4 4.2 v8.... I was not looking to clean at all just blow out some dirt that might of fallen into the ports,, I sprayed the dry air down the hole and the hole port and valve looked as good as new,,,, well worth a try,,, all the best jamie
First time watching you guys....you certainly know your stuff....
Amazing Job.... Greetings from Spain...and Thanks
many thanks for sharing the price , a handy reflection for anyone thinking about buying one ,
Great work!!! Congrats
Wow ,a great video , thats a lot of work and knowledge đ
Hello. Great work and good video! I did chains and tensioners on my 08 S5 V8 with the engine still in the car, preatty good room to do chains in this car by just removing gearboxđ
We do it for this reason because itâs always more to do âŠ
I had an A6 allroad 2.7 twin turbo. Didnt drive it much but what a car. When I sold it nobody wanted to give the time of day for it. Sadly Audi's are notorious for engine problems. And very high maintenance. Once they get a couple of years on their value is zilch. Needed a height level sensor and eventually got one from a garage selling an allroad for spares. Audi tips the proverbial tail out the chicken when it comes to spares prices. The Audi in this video would have been deemed too expensive to repair. I now have a Prado 120 with a Kzte 3 liter turbo engine that's done 220k on clock and runs like a sewing machine. Repairs dont cost an arm and a leg and able to do all myself. Busy repair/ replacing bolts that previous owner (supposedly a mechanic) butchered. Sadly have to pull parts out to get butchered bolts out. Had a brake booster motor pack up and had to take master cylinder out to have it repaired. Cost me about R600 and all good again. The above repair almost cost what my Prado cost me. Just reason it is it worth it in the end
amazing job mate. You named the total cost for the job as 6000 Pounds. It's a good price!
I've got a jaguar xe but I love these videos of these big engines love the music đ¶ keep the great video đč up
You performed absoloute heroics with that last thermostat bolt. Nightmare situation.
Nice work. Very professional. đ„đ„đ€
I wish you guys were on Texas. I have the exact same car that needs some work .
That doesnât seem like a bad price for all the work and parts you fitted. It would have been twice that price here in Perth AUSTRALIA đđđŠđș
As always amazing work and great background music. Still waiting on the link for those Audi hoodie. đ
Sorry didnât have time to list them with good pictures, officially on YT we can have them after 10k subscribers .

Got my hoodies 2 weeks ago. đ thanks again.
Hats off guys, excellent video as usual. I spend more time watching your videos in the evenings than watching TV, awesome and very informative content. If it's any help to create more videos I'm happy for you guys to upload a video of my A6 when it goes in if its any help:D see you in a few weeks
Thanks Lorant , will try to make something interesting with your A6 once is here so you have a lovely memory online đ€
@@VAGTechnic I'm really looking forward:D
So glad I have my old b5 4.2 quattro. Timing belt at the front! So even I could replace it, none of these complex timing chains. I did replace the cam chain tensioners which cost me ÂŁ1000 alone. Audi parts are not cheap, so the work in this video makes the car worthless to anyone else except the owner!
Great job my friend
What tool is that you use as counter holder for the camshaft sprocket? The blue (looks like a oil filter removal tool).
Wish you were in norwich ,i would get all my work done by you on my S4
Great video as always
Hi, this is very nice video and straight forward explanation, just wonder if you ever did Audi A8 D3 W12 ?
Wooow you did great work.
nice work
Good work dude
Loving it Tom keep up the good work I now know if all else fails and no One want to know!!..I can bring to you guys LEGENDS đđŸđđŸ
See you soon Derick !
Wow great work!
Cracking job..
Keep up the good work cant wait to have my done in March đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
Wheeey , YES! We see you soon !
Is this the same 4.2 BVJ block that's in my old 2008 A6 S-Line daily driver, they look similar? She's nearing 155k miles and ive been wondering how much longer she's got left in her? Runs great, no issues but a minor oil leak in over 11 yrs of owning it. I did get the multiple cylinder misfire several years ago and ended up being one of the solenoids as well but that's it. I've a 2016 C7.5 A7 as well as my weekend driver...but just wondering when if I should be trying to get rid of the 08 for something, a little newer lol...... great channel by the way! you guys are awesome!
I had a very similar problem with my Audi A3 3.2 timing solenoid
That's a lot of work there. Definitely not an easy task
I reccomend oven brite . Cleaning agent for oven a bottle mixed with hot water and bath intake in it for 1hour or so brushing thicker spoty with plastic soft brush. then just low pressure jest wash to rinse . Comes out like new every time on my diesel. Oven Brite is cheap too in poundland .
Great job . Great video . Lovely engine.
Regards
Fantastic video
VAG engines insure a continuous steam of repair work at relatively low mileage.
I had one just like that. In fact before I saw the euro license plate, I thought it might have been my old one.
Absolute worst car I have ever owned. Had it for three years (almost to the day). It ran for 180 days. $15k in repairs + $2400 in storage fees later, it left on a flatbed never to return. I was never so happy to see the back of a car in all my days.
amazing job! đ đ
Superb video
good work man , total cost is very reasonable
Hi, what tools do you recommend Iâd need to buy for rebuilding a bns rs4 engine Iâve bought? Tips on where to buy would be great , also best place for parts would really be appreciated
That was a bargain for all that attention to detail I expected much worse if I ever get an s5 that goes wrong Iâd take it these guys just to meet them
Hopefully they got a deal on the car given that state... how much was parts and how much was just the subframe?
In general, how is the clutch after that milage? Would it have been due for replacement anyway?
Great video. Are you guys from central europe by any chance ?
AUDI đ, ĐżŃŃĐșĐ° - ĐłĐŸĐœĐșĐ°.
I thought I've seen complicated engine timing systems until this Audi V8 said "hold my beer!"
Love channel, great content đđ»
You beard shrunk a fair bit in the 4 months from start to finish đ€Ł
Getting bold on my face instead of hair from all the stresss đ
Very good from peruvian saludos
Is nobody going to mention the way the car was being cleaned ???? Swirl heavenđ apart from that belta
Mr. Professional... car was generally cleaned from All the dirt after 16 months so I donât have to work on car in that condition . This S5 was going for painting and polishing afterwards. Please tell us more how to waste my time cleaning something what will be done completely different afterwards
Can you explain what that special tool is that you used to remove troublesome Torx under angle?
Hey, I watched the video and I want to know if have any tips for me, my S5 it's overheating , the reservoir bottle was cracked and it was replaced, then I drove it for a week and it started to overheat again, I have replaced the thermostat, fans one had failed and the other one was running at 60%, I also found the temp sensor was faulty and was replaced, after all that, the car still overheating, any tips I will appreciate.
Thanks
I have an A3 (8p) 2l TFSI.. mine has done 140k miles aswell.. Iâd bought the car quite recently.. any recommendations on check ups? Iâd like to have it checked by a pro like yourself
Do you provide pricing ms for this?
Very nice đ
I just had my 2008 S5 Refurbished in Malaysia.. similar 30K Ringgit whichi is about 6K pounds..Big ticket items were Camshaft holder, engine mounting, plugs, camshaft intake, Aircon Blower motor and even ECU.. ECU changed as the start button had to be pressed twice before it started. And a whole load of seals, gaskets, pipes... all the rubber and plastic parts degarded in 15 years..
I have the same car 2008 audi s5, the oil and anti freeze are being mixed together, its not smoking, what do you think the issue might be?
Good job man. Just wonder did you scrapes the carbon at intake valves or you did a walnut blast in it?
Hi,
Just scrape it on the beginning because walnut would take ages to do .
Don't you guys have any aqua blast location that can clean the flaps and other sensitive things? Much better than sanding, doesn't fuck up with the geometry.
I wish I could send my s4 to you guys
Great video đč đ really good job.
Do you change clutch pack in s tronic 7 speed gearbox? In a7 3.0 tfsi? 2012?
Yes we can do them đ€
@@VAGTechnic Ha ha Great I be in touch đ
Hello mate I need your suggestion , I have an Audi A4 B8 2011 2.0 TFSI
The oil burning is too much , it consumes 1 gallon oil per 2000km. but car have enough power , some time if we accelerate after slowing down it makes smoke and in idle oil spraying through the exhaust. Is it related to turbo , valve stem seals or the piston rings , I checked with many garages , domes saying turbo some valve stem seals some complete overhaul.
Can u pls guide me
Thanks and regards
8000 U.S. very good work.
what brand is the blue tool/toolbox? Thank you
Hi, is the default position for refitting the VVT units with the stamp marks pointing up? timestamp (9.35). elsawin doesnt mention anything about the orientation other than "make sure you mark them before removing"
Thanks,
Dan
Hi,
They have grove for oil inserts , donât actually need any position
@@VAGTechnic Thank you for the reply, i put them back all just facing upwards. although whilst timing the engine and taking the slack out of the chains bank 1 seems fine but bank 2 seems to jump back a tooth after removing the cam lock clamps, do you have any idea why it would do this?
Cheers
That 4.2l is one horrible masterpeice... i bet in the US it would be 10k+ to do this job.
In the US, there is only a hand full of shops that work on Audi unless you go to the dealer.
They don't want to do transmission fluid change, they don't want to fix a wheel bearing, they surely don't want to remove the engine or transmission.
They'll change your oil though and use 5w-20 instead of 0-40 full syn euro. Most mechanics are scared or inexperienced to work on Audi and they know they cannot profit from their mistakes and zero knowledge of Audi so they just decline service for it.
Great job. I have an older auto from VAG: Passat 35i (Wagon). I bought it 8 years ago and sometimes I need to repair it, but repairing is cheaper than this Audi. However if I have got more money than I have certainly I would buy Audi like this:)
love the video, thank you for sharing it with us. although I was a bit shocked by the cost, I just bought an A5 3.2fsi with nearly the same price lol đ
If you will take care of it on regular bases you will not have such issues
Here in NY Iâve half as much work done on my v8 s5 for twice the cost you guys are amazing
Bro. I currently have an A4 2012 2.0. I'm thinking of buying an A6 2011 3.0T. And make the conversion to my Audi a4. What do you think will be the biggest problem?
It seems Audi and others can't make chains last these days.
Let me take you back to 2001 - 2005 era.
Rover 75 using the BMW M47 engine.
Admittedly it's a heavy diesel lump BUT the chain life on those is actually the life of the engine.
(way above 500k miles in many cases)
It's a shame they can't do this on big petrol V8's but then again they want things to fail to generate revenue and new models !
miroslav is from serbia?engine doctors good joob
