Based on the book, Mustang Miracle by Humberto G. Garcia and set in 1956, The Long Game follows the story of JB Peña and his wife, who move to the small town of Del Rio, TX, to fulfill JB's dream of joining the prestigious Del Rio Country Club. When JB is rejected on the basis of his skin color, he is devastated. But his world soon collides with a group of young latino golf caddies who work at the country club, and JB is inspired by the handmade course the boys built in the country to teach themselves golf. With little experience and even fewer resources, JB convinces the boys to start their own high school golf team, starting them all on a journey where they learn that it takes more than just golf skills to make history.
Directed by Julio Quintana, The Long Game arrives in US theaters nationwide on April 12, 2024.

Friend of mine saw this at SXSW last year, it's a great uplifting film that should've dropped during this previous award season. Glad to see it finally getting a wide release and the attention it deserves!!

Some of us have roots going back to the 16th century here, while none of you were around. And that’s not counting thousands of years before that for certain lines. Half of the US was ruled by Mexico City for hundreds of years before it was “taken” by force.
Most Mexicans are of European decent. Only indigenous people were in Mexico thousands of years ago.
Latinos are all Americans, and many people think calling someone American refers only to people in the us, thats not what they call us in latin america.

To Mexicans it’s NEVER about being oppressed. That’s garbage to us. What we like is building our own. The oppression narrative is never permissible in the Mexican mind. Even today, you’ll get someone who will ask for a job but won’t try to rob you.
