  • The first order of business for this new RM125 project is to repair the damage to the crankcase. I could have spent more money and bought another left side crankcase cover, but I am broke and already have a lot that needs to be replaced, so I went with the JB Weld option. I am pretty happy with the results and honestly believe it is going to hold up very well!

    so the video is a two stroke engine l see, in the exhaut housing the creac crack is. wondering if some non tig like epoxy will work or is it too hot or will move and leak , rtv silicone, or metal brazing for alu, or jb weld takes some more heat is epoxy too but not much more l guess. some plate over it with screws into block maybe to push down on repair. exhaust muffler repair putty maybe.for two stroke housing crack. small scooter fifty cc. or smaller. crack on pressurised housing , does it have much prssure anyway. dont know .

      Sorry for such a late reply! If you prep it well enough it should hold just fine. JB Weld is some awesome stuff. Have not put the engine together yet.

      Well that sucks! Was it in the same area or a bit different? I have since had crankcases repaired by actual tig welding.

      Sorry for the late reply. I never got to find out, as I sold the cases. I believe the guy still used them. However, if it were me again, I'd get them properly tig welded.

    Ive bought a dirt bike that has been already jbwelded in the usual suspect spot:the oil drain plug.is it safe to try unscrew the plug or the whole thing is gonna crack wide open?

    • @themotobarn702
      @themotobarn702  Před 3 lety +1

      I would find out exactly where the crack is and how large it is first. That means you may need to grind down some of the jb weld. Either way, just take your time and be careful. You'll have to change the oil eventually.

      I have not put the engine together yet. I have all the parts now, I just have to spend the time and put it all together. I believe it'll hold just fine.

      If you have a crack in the actual crankshaft chamber of the crankcase then that will cause a massive air leak and cause all sorts of issues.
