As an European, the fact that Americans step out of college with the burden of paying off mortgage-level amounts of money in debt blows my mind
Yup it's just mind boggling đ€Ż
Lmao
@@instantsiv I'm sorry but I don't know what part of Europe or even what kind on "inherited debt" you may be referring to.
@@JessicaVianaa he means the story Americans tell themselves that they donât pay the taxes Europeans do to finance universities
@@JessicaVianaa yes, but in Europe you are paying most of your money to the system all your life. You are paying for a lot of ppl to go to college who will not use their degrees or even stay in the country that paid for that degree. And is mandatory. In the US people have choices; unfortunately, they've been steered towards the high debt route, but it is a choice...

My university costs like $100 dollars a YEAR, and the most expensive one in my country costs like $2000 a year. Now I get why people in the US call College a scam, that's straight up theft lol.
Actually... in Greece we even have free education, as long as you pass from exams though. I don't know why many people think is okey to pay this much money in college
Where do you live really?
Humm in Spain it is not that inexpensive. About 1000⏠a year if you dont get a grant. But high schools are completely free and trade schools are too.
My boyfriend (born/raised in Europe) told me that he was actually paid to go to school, because his country would cover his commute to university...Bus and train.
@@carolc2574 Public education here sucks. Still, our public university is very good, but you have to get used to the tear gas thrown at you every 2 months lol.
After divorce, the household income dropped by 2/3rds but I still had a ton of debt to pay off, both from before and during the divorce. I was grateful for people who gave hand me down clothing. I have a neighbor who tipped me $20 when I went grocery shopping. I saved everything I could, and like you, paid the debt off in chunks. Last summer, I wrote a check for the last $12000 I owed. It was magical!
Since then, I've graduated community college, debt free, gotten a much better paying job, and I'm about to get a new roof on my house. Paid in cash.
And don't tell the kids, but since they're so amazing, I've been saving enough to get them gaming laptops for Christmas! đ„° 100% budgeted for.

About two years ago I found myself $35,000 in debt, majority credit cards. We were days away from filing bankruptcy when I just had this really strong feeling to push through it and intensely commit myself to paying it off. I cut all of our expenses to the bare bones minimum.
Our last payment is in about 10 days. We paid off $35,000 in about 18 ish months. And we donât get paid a ton but have decent jobs, the biggest thing was cutting our expenses and living on about half of what we make and commiting the rest to debt. It was worth the experience just for the lessons.

Being debt-free is one of the best feelings ever. I remember struggling for 2 years to be completely debt-free. Worth the struggle. Great advice Matt !
Love the âchunkingâ method. Glad to have a name for the way I have been attacking h debt. Feels a lot more tangible when putting a sizable number towards debt rather than a small amount each month.

Iâm glad Iâve personally stayed strong, making similar choices to you, to pay off my debt rapidly while still being able to lead a happy life.
Good for you! It's so hard not to get sucked into 'keeping up with the joneses' when you're in your 20's, but its SO worth it when you're able to become debt free and start on some bigger life goals!
@@howtoadultschool I agree completely!! And I luckily do have a few good friends/boyfriend who feel the same way, so I have a smaller bubble of support which helps!

This is great advice. I had to live with my 'rents working a shitty job until I save enough to get my own apartment and eventually purchase my condo. Not even close to paying off my debt but on the way. Keep doing your thing. Very inspiring.
"What are the things making money disappear from your account?"

Your financial videos are my favorite
Now this is a good, practical, honest look at a successful path.
I started filming YT this year and I still live with my parents. His mom shutting back of his video is such a mood because my mom does the same when I film lol
I unknowingly was doing the chunking method myself! It feels way more satisfying to see the balance significantly drop. I'm sure some people har disagree, but there's also the psychology of the fact tat money isn't going to loans when you are moving it around. It does provide a cushion, and when the cushion gets big enough, you can chunk it into a debt payment.
Love the flashback shots!
I really liked the style of these Info boxes that showed up from time to time!

This video came at a perfect time for me, Matt!
I'm 22 and just graduated this year and am looking at 100k in debt. Just had to make the tough decision to live with my parents while all of my friends move out into their own places. I landed a full-time job that pays 30k with guaranteed promotion to 60k+ after 6-12 months in the role. This video helped me realize that it's okay to live at home and to cut costs, and I could not be more thankful.

Funny how moving in with parents is a "sacrifice", especially straight out of school.
yeah it's like, the opposite of that. that's a huge privilege. generous on his parents part.
Depends on the relationship between both people. I love my mom but as I got older and experienced living away from her in my own space, moving back in is a sacrifice. The relationship is better when weâre not living under the same roof so itâs definitely a sacrifice IMO.
@@ajh.4131 That is fair. I get that it wouldn't be something you would want to do and it is a compromise of independence. I guess the word sacrifice just seemed off.
