  • Jessica Chastain delivered superb dramatic performances in The Help, Zero Dark Thirty, and A Most Violent Year, but for years couldn't win an Academy Award. In this video, I break down Chastain's remarkable career and discuss the reasons why she finally won the Oscar for her performance in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. #jessicachastain #oscars #academyawards #brianrowevideo #theeyesoftammyfaye

I think a fun topic to discuss is nominations and wins for roles and are in the wrong category. There have been a few times where an role was nominated for supporting when it’s clearly a lead role and vice verse in order to get the best outcome for an Oscar. Think Jennifer Hudson for Dreamgirls or Viola Davis for Fences. I’m sure there are actors as well but it’s not coming to mind

The last three Actor in a Supporting Role winners were arguably co-leads: Mahershala Ali for Green Book, Brad Pitt for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Daniel Kaluuya for Judas and the Black Messiah.

@@richierich7229 Both Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson are leads in Dreamgirls. Both roles were nominated for Lead Actress for the Tony and Jennifer Holiday won for playing Effie. One can argue that Effie is the true lead of Dreamgirls for she is the character that goes through the most hardship and growth throughout the musical. I mean the two iconic songs from the original musical are Effie songs so that should say something. The movie marketing was them clearly trying to get Beyonce nominated for an Oscar and worried that Hudson would prevent that for Beyonce if they were options for the lead category so Hudson got bumped down unfairly.

Chastain absolutely nailed as a Tammy Faye. And Lady Gaga absolutely killed with her performance in HOG. That Gaga was not nominated for the Oscar is still baffling to me. And that may be why Chastain doesn’t have a strong competition. Kidman and Stewart were good in their respective films, but IMHO not in the same league as Chastain and Gaga.
All of these were portraying real people, so I don’t think one can use that as a “reason” for an Oscar.

Can you do a Video about Viola Davis? Like she's the youngest Triple Crown Of Acting winner, and one of the finest actresses in the entire industry. Personally, I'm pissed her Oscar is for Supporting Actress when 1. She was a lead 2. Emma Stone won lead that year....(she is not in Viola's league). 3. Her Tony for Fences is for Lead

Yes I’ve been saying that for years that Viola should’ve been the front runner for the best actress Oscar that year and if it wasn’t her it should’ve Isabelle huppert viola only got the best supporting actress award bc it’s easier for actresses of color to win in supporting a categories and to be a little fair that year’s best actress was one of the most competitive in recent Oscar memories

While Viola was the female lead, the main lead was Denzel so she technically was a supporting character. Plus the first actress to play her role in Fences on Broadway won the Tony for supporting actress.

Like last year 2021, its hard to predict who is going to take away Oscar, either Nicole, Olivia and Jessica. But I think the Academy going to give Jessica this year. Hopefully.

I looked this up to refresh my memory before recording and while Maya is based on a few real-life CIA employees, there’s not specifically a Maya that Chastain portrays in the film. Thanks for watching!

I desperately need an Elusive Oscar video about Ray Liotta. Who, yes, tended to be typecast throughout a majority of his career. The fact that he was never even nominated for his tragically recent, and too-soon early last year. The man definitely deserves more recognition than the aloofness he received from The Academy.
