I can imagine the Rebel Alliance and Earth doing a virtual joint military exercise like this
If the empire invaded, the rebel alliance would definitely seek us out.
Try to at least. Why would a legitimate governments listen to a bunch of terrorist wanting to re-establish the old status qou of corruption and are being funded by independent or/and vassals that want to also re-establish the Republic and/or destroy a stabilising force in the galaxy?
"Wait, they're in the middle of a _planetwide conflict_ , and they're naming it "World War _Two_ ?!?" , General Cabur, the Joint Republic Task Force commander, asked incredulously, as Commander Adas handed him the second wave of summarized casualty reports.
"That's correct, sir", Adas replied, letting the words sink in before continuing. "They've killed each other by the tens of millions, and none of that seems to matter now that we're here."
"And what was their ultimate response to our envoys...they _did_ return safely?" Cabur has been surprised by these "primitives" ever since they stumbled into this seemingly remote star system...with no hyperlanes, repair parts at a minimum, and supplies reaching critical levels, he needs now more than ever to resupply and figure out a way home...
Home, seemingly so long ago, in a galaxy beyond far away, must wait until he finds a way to reestablish logistics, resting on this blue paradise turned into a battlefield. By the only sapient species around; human enough, but incredibly adaptive, competitively so. If only-
"Yes, General." The young commander's voice brought him back to the task at hand. "Captain Nodo followed the customs translated from the holo transcripts of this species' history. A white banner under a sign of truce. Worked as intended, and our diplomatic mission met with leading military and civil figures from all major belligerent nation states."
"I take it from your hesitation, commander, that the mission was not successful?" The General felt a migraine coming on. Now of all times...
"No. Their delegation sent a joint reply from the ruling bodies...we've apparently been fighting a scratch unit of forces comprising these nations. Our tech droids have translated most of their language:
'Throughout humanity's existence, our species has underwent great [turmoil/adversity/upheaval], the worst of which was carried out not by [nature/Force/disaster], but by man himself. This is indeed the greatest test our planet has faced. No matter the [terror/genocide/murder] unleashed by man, whether native or alien to Earth, the people of Earth will meet any tyranny to ensure humanity will not be oppressed. The people of Earth will determine its own fate, even if we have to bury our enemies in the rubble of our cities and drown them in our own blood. Earth will not submit.'
It was then signed by all of their dignitaries and a copy was sealed and handed to our delegation. They then escorted our envoys back to our meeting point and allowed us to leave."
Cabur studied the young commander; the shrug at the end of the report was more pronounced then one he'd ever see Adas give. He then studied her hardened, yet youthful, features and saw something he never thought he'd see in the determined pureblood he chose as one of his leaders; despair. This whole situation is testing even the strongest of them, and is going to get much worse before it gets better.
"Thank you Adas. Have stock taken in our supplies, make sure Commander Bola reorganizes depleted units as necessary, and tell everyone to get some rest. We should be safe up here." As she acknowledged and turned to leave, Cabur added "That includes you too, commander."
Later, General Cabur sinks into his chair and slowly massages his temples. The headache is hitting him full force now, and as always he'll meditate to see himself through it. As always, nothing is as it seems, and now there is another obstacle for him to overcome. Home is indeed a long way away....
Glory to the Galactic Empire. We must protect our Terran brothers and sisters from these Rebel scum.
