    CS2’s last massive update made improvements to a lot of the issues players were having with how the game felt mechanically. Which is faaaaaanastic.
    But looming behind every new patch Valve rolls out is the expectation for something that will fix CS2’s cheating problem. .
    So we sat down with one of the people responsible for Valorant’s Vanguard Anti-Cheat system to find out how to solve CS2’s biggest problem, once and for all.

    cheating has been a problem for 25 years in CS and I have never seen a real effort from Valve to actually address it. I 100% agree when the community doesn't see any effort going into solving the cheater problem it is encouraging more cheaters. maybe all the players leaving will push Valve to do something but I am afraid it might be too late for a lot of players.

      Don't forget Valve made the choice for VAC ban to be publicly viewable.. Does the average player need to know if a player has been VAC banned? As long as they can't play games right... All it does is allow cheaters to identify each other which has allowed cheaters to group together and get stronger for decades... It's a conspiracy of cheating.. Probably to meet some end goal of needing every persons computer under surveillance.. Problem, Reaction, Solution.

      we all assumed vac-live meant the cs:go ai-anticheat would not be able to ban live in matches. the way the ai anticheat used to work, you would play your match, and after the ai anti-cheat would watch the demo. from there say "yes or no" if the players were cheating. then send to overwatch for verification. we assumed the ai-anticheat was trained (over like 4+ years of daily use, every game both wingman and 10man competitive) would be able to ban live hence "vac-live" but turns out, it doesn't do shit. and cheaters still cheat.

      it’s still possible to cheat on mac and android but to my knowledge windows exploiting was hit the hardest, i don’t even know if there are any exploits left on the platform.
      In fact, when the Synapse X devs (basically the biggest exploit at the time) got hired by roblox, a ton of exploits shut down preemptively. I paid for script-ware x and they just shutdown permanently when synapse did that. Oh well.
      Nemi knows what he’s doing. He took down pretty much every windows exploit, and long after byfron (the anticheat system/company) launched its still the same situation on windows right now. Maybe the Synapse devs gave up at that point because they didn’t make any progress and they would clearly make more money working for roblox to develop their anticheat more. Roblox as a company is kinda bad when it comes to the ethics of their business model etc, but damn they know what they are doing when it comes to exploits. I can prolly count the number of hackers i’ve seen on one hand since it launched

    The sad part about modern anti-cheat is that it requires some deeply invasive spyware in order to work. Not only does it make games incompatible with operative systems other than Windows, it also makes the computer less secure if a hacker (or even the developer itself) manages to leverage the anti-cheat to snoop on the user's device.

      The fact that Valve wants to keep its games compatible with its own Steam Deck is, perhaps, the biggest obstacle to implementing a full-on kernel anti-cheat. By design, Linux is intended to containerize each user's data, so unless Steam manages to ship a solution that relies on giving full super-administrative rights to the kernel anti-cheat, and ensures that no other user is able to interfere with it even with administrator rights, and can be safely installed on as many versions of the Linux kernel as possible without breaking functionality, then I don't think that VAC will be able to go beyond basic attestation.

      No way bro said if a hacker leverages the anticheat, only way that's happening is if a HUGE exploit is found in the program and if the company to put out the anticheat has made it kernal level and made it work pretty flawlessly I doubt something like that would happen. In reality there's not a lot wrong with kernal level cheat detections aside from the fact people don't like it cause they're told it's scary

      But can’t you say the same for anything in life? If you wish to use Meta, or any other social media platform, you are forking over your personal information and digital freedom. You don’t think VPN services collect data? Most terms and agreements under fair use and digital presence will require this. I see nothing wrong with Vanguard as I have nothing to hide on my computer. You literally have the NSA that spies on citizens everyday. What about telecom companies providing police with location analysis during a murder trial? Freedom is subjective, and I have nothing to hide. I’d rather lose a little freedom so a cheater loses all his freedom.

      60% of all players admit to use cheats. Youd have to shut down the service, to get rid of them. People like @thescoreesports dont understand that and the economic effect. Beside that why do you play games flooded with cheaters? Thats not only crazy its Masochism. Just delete CS2 and turn into games, where cheats dont matter. I dont believe anyone who tells me "but i like that game" when you get headshotted from nowhere and then cry: "This game is full of cheaters." Something doesnt add up here. I bet alot people could disconnect from this experience if they had the balls to quit something, that they once loved. But they havent. They install cheats themself to be able to play it. Cheating is an epedemic. And soon we hit the 70% mark. Trust me. Its only getting worse.

      ur clueless because valve have been working on one of the best ai anticheats for the last decade. the whole point behind overwatch was to train an ai model, and im telling u now the ai anticheat they have works pretty well, it might not ban instantly but it detects pm everything apart from WH. it's almost impossible to be a closet/legit cheater now bc it's obvious to humans when sum1 is wallhacking. aimbots can still go undetected but they are shit usually and only pull ur crosshair towards the target after u shoot, softaim is detected easily. don't get me wrong it's definitely still possible to cheat in mm, but not without it being obvious if sum1 watches the demo, not without getting perma red trust factor after ur first few if not first game. while all these other companies have been going the intrusive scan the fuck out of ur pc route, valve have gone for an ai model that doesn't even need to scan ur pc just ur inputs and shit to the game. everybody likes to glaze riot but if you have DMA there anticheat is instantly broken, cs on the otherhand is not. If they implement this ai detection into pro matches and not just valve servers(pretty sure its only valve servers and not gamewide but I may be wrong) then I would be 99.9% confident that no pros are cheating, because if its an info hack like wh/esp or sound queues (the AI can't detect info cheats well enough atm) u can't get away with that at a LAN unless maybe u go the chess route and have a vibrating but plug. I would hazard a guess that they removed overwatch for a good reason, not because they cba adding it back in like a lot of other content, but because they have already gathered enough human training data over the last decade and they are almost ready to fully roll out this new ai anticheat, bc currently it is half implemented; it's as if they are scared to ban people incase the ai is wrong and instead they give just give u perma red trust and make u play with other suspicious players(in csgo if the ai thought u were cheating it would send u to overwatch for human verification first, even with no reports from other players, but in cs2 it seems they actually ban u automatically if the ai model is certain enough and thats why people have been getting banned for spinning really fast bc the AI wrongly assumes ur spinbotting.

    valve repeating history again...

  • @MythicTF2
    @MythicTF2 Před 6 měsíci +1

    The biggest problem with Valve & how they do things is that even if they did fix their anti-cheat and updated VAC & CS to be completely tamper proof, we as the community would be left in the dark about it. We wouldn't see it in patch notes or anything like that, which means that the majority of players would never know its fixed and would still go on to worry about cheaters in every lobby. The mindset of knowing that there's a lot of cheaters in CS is a very insidious one and will genuinely make you start calling cheats on every good player, who can very well not be cheating. It will make you suspect cheats even if they're not there. The only way we'd realistically ever know if the cheating problem got better is if cheat developers said that their cheats aren't effective anymore (bad for their business) or if we data-mined the shit outta things to get decisive evidence which would also give cheaters a starting step on seeing how to get around their new systems.
    It's kind of a lose/lose situation. Damned if they do, damned if they don't. If they announce that they've made improvements to help with cheat developers and everything some cheaters would immediately jump on it to try and crack through and then they'd have a new cheat going within a few days and people would be up in arms over it calling Valve lazy. If they don't announce anything this insidious mindset continues to spiral through the community and every decent player is a closet cheater.
    I also think it's worth noting that there's also a lot more money in making cheats for CS than any other game. It is one of the biggest esports so cheat developers make a lot of money off it, and because of that it attracts a lot of developers which in turn makes any systems Valve makes easier to crack and get through. Some cheat developers even market their cheats for combating OTHER cheaters in HvH scenarios in live games. No other game can I think of that cheat developers advertise their cheats like that and it kinda comes down to a chicken or the egg scenario; as in did cheaters start making HvH cheats because the cheating problem is that bad, or did they start doing it to get an edge on their competition and make the cheating problem worse because of the mindset that "everyone is cheating already".

    I recon they ignore such offers for example Nemi, to help out to make a very efficient Anti-Cheat. I think the main problem Valve has is, they profit a lot from Cheaters, since they always buy more accounts. Think about it, if one's so greedy to cheat in a game and gets banned, that person is going to buy an account and play on it just to get banned again. Valve is printing money just by them. If they would consider fixing that, their profit is reduced by a big portion, just because greedy cheaters have no chance anymore, therefor they quit buying accounts. Just a thought I had, feel free to discuss this in the comments. I'd very much appreciate a statement to my percepetion of this from Valve, since I'm not probably the first guy to ever come to this conclusion.

    Theres already plenty of cheats out there for valorant, you can closet in that game all you want and if you have 1 brain cell to spare you can get away with it. Kernel level/driver cheats have been a thing for a while already. Thats not even getting into hardware based cheats like AI and DMA based ones, those are fully undetectable by any modern AC and can be set up for lower and lower cost each year. If the user has hardware access, its a battle you already lost at this point.
    The best anticheat design is the game itself. Back in the old CS days you had cheaters sure, but anything that started getting even slightly sus would be looked by a community server staff member and then theyd probably be manually banned. That also meant cheaters were spread out amongst a huge variety of servers, gamemodes, and communities. Not to mention less incentives to cheat like no real ranks (besides server plugins that werent universal) and finding cool communities to hang with. Not to mention people could just leave a server at any point and migrate to others if that particular one was getting rekt by a cheater and nobody was on to ban them.
    If you take the modern approach to 'competitive' online play which is dump everyone into a massive cesspool of players they dont have a connection to at all, and force them to stay in a game with no manual reviewers or moderators present, and then give them arbitrary 'ranks' to flex on other randos with, of course you are gonna have an absolute load of cheaters and the entire thing is gonna fall apart. Cheaters have always been a thing in online games, but the issues they caused havent been this massive until now, and theres your reason why.

    Kernal level anti cheat is not an option for valve because it doesn't work on Linux systems and if you remember many valve products work on Linux

    • @OliverCaldwell
      @OliverCaldwell Před 6 měsíci +2

      It's entirely possible to add a kernel module to your Linux install. There's nothing in the way of this in principle, so if valve wanted to they could still offer the module to Linux users to opt into.

    • @nadirmachane9328
      @nadirmachane9328 Před 6 měsíci

      @@OliverCaldwell I've read this comment and it changed my opinion on the topic, if you can add anything please DO :"
      The simple reason for why Valve can't make kernel level anti-cheat is specifically because the Linux kernel is a free and open source kernel, this means anyone can open it up, observe it, and modify it, in fact this is a requirement in order to distribute the kernel under every GPL license that the Linux kernel is distributed under, as it requires a disclosing of the source. While anything else regarding the system may be closed source and proprietary, the kernel itself cannot be, this also means that anyone can modify and has direct source access to the kernel.
      Now what this means for Linux is that anyone can add to the kernel, including things that would interface with the kernel like kernel modules, which are deeper then the usual driver you'd expect to be on Windows, modules can even be drivers basically integrated into the kernel, or you could just add it directly to the kernel if you want. In any case the deepest something can be is integrated directly into the kernel which anyone can modify, this means if you build an anti-cheat at any level that isn't part of the proprietary blob inside of the CPU itself, (which is the only part the user cannot access on Linux, which is deeper then the kernel ever could be, and which no one can actually really make by the way) the user can just outright modify the kernel to lie to the anti-cheat and there is nothing to prevent this. As a result all your anti-cheat has accomplished is slowing down the system's performance, violating privacy, and destroying kernel security. So you basically just rootkit'ed the system for no reason.
      Further still, Linux is Valve's target platform now, they put a lot of work into refining it and paying people to make it better, they now even sell Linux-box "consoles" via the Steam Deck which ship a Linux Arch kernel with a bespoke setup out of the box with custom software for the Linux system, this is a lot of money and time invested and in deep collaboration with Linux invested parties including AMD, Red Hat, Gnome, KDE, and Canonical. They have been dedicated to this venture for a little over half a decade at minimum and Valve has already felt threatened by Microsoft's problematic and invasive behavior that was negatively impacting Steam and their games. They have a very deeply vested interest in Linux, there is no reason to expect that anything short of near bankruptcy would steer this ship away from Linux. (which given they are also so good at diversifying their endeavors and reinvesting in a profitable manner, good luck with that, they've got a really good track record in their finances, probably better then any other tech company to date, they are likely the most profitable tech company you could name)
      So with all this said, this is why Valve will not support kernel level anti-cheat, in order to do so they must turn against Linux and ban the Linux crowd from their games, at minimum from all their multiplayer games, which completely undercuts the whole Steam Deck endeavor they just reinvested into with the Steam Deck OLED. This is also why you will find it exceedingly hard for any company that implements a proper kernel level anti-cheat to ever support Linux, even through Proton/WINE, because if they do, many developers understand that it opens a door for cheating to go completely unregulated once people find out they can use Linux to play their anti-cheat games.
      Now for you kernel level folks you're probably massively blackpilled by this because you think there is no solution, and for conventional solutions of bruteforce exterminating hackers, you pretty much got no choice but to be. But now that I've told you the problem, here is the solution: Don't actually ban the cheaters.
      Now you may think this to be crazy, as the conventional advice for anti-cheat is to go scorched Earth against cheaters and eliminate them. However this is a bad solution, for it relies on a locked down system, violating the user's privacy and security, and destroying client-side performance to some degree. If instead we permit cheaters to do as they wished but only segregated them to their own servers with other toxic individuals, not only do I argue this would be more effective but it would also be more humane, (as no longer does a multiplayer game need to be able to be taken away from players) not require invasive techniques that harm the users or their system, and it can be scaled up with other server-side detection techniques, which Valve has been flirting with. You could also use client-side techniques but generally I would argue most of them can be disregarded with this technique.
      Now why would this be effective? Well from the view of a cheater, most of them don't really care who they cheat against, and even some that do, unless you tell them to make a new account they are unlikely to do so, the reason they keep popping back up is because they have to make a new account because once they get caught, they get banned. But imagine for a moment if they weren't banned, the amount of cheaters at that point that would make a new account that is hard to distinguish from a regular new account would immediately drop, the volume of accounts being created for the sake of cheating would most certainly reduce as most cheaters would no longer realize they've been caught or they would simply not care if they have been, especially if they are mixed in with some other players who may or may not be legit but for which we would otherwise wish to also segregate and punish for being poor actors. With this system you would then know who is and is not cheating most of the time, especially if you incentivize the cheaters to stick to their accounts. Add in additional detection systems alongside user reporting, and the results are quite likely to be more effective then any previous strategy.
      Now you may ask why does no one else do this? Actually its quite simple, anti-cheat is a deep topic, the anti-cheat companies have a financial interest in telling people they need them, and the companies become invested in a sunk cost, as well the corporates don't understand the problem and most developers don't spend time considering the topic, they see the problem and don't really care for the specific solution as long as they have one, not that most developers really have much input in most cases, often they're just told what to do. And many companies are fooled into the idea that the best solution is the one you pay for, especially for people who can spend the money, its a common tactic in retail. However this technique I described is not as glamorous and is very much a game implementation detail, something any developer could feasibly do.
      Now as for Valve, this is also not a widely considered solution, many other developers are also stuck in the "ban the cheaters" zeitgeist and have not considered any alternate approach, sometimes out of stubbornness or out of ignorance, sometimes its simply a desire to punish people perhaps, whatever the reason may be, considering this approach is harder and seems counterintuitive.
      Now as for any references I can make on this solution, it is sparse, there are some small games who have implemented such a solution, however most major companies with matchmaking have simply just decided to outright ban everyone they suspect of cheating for the reasons outlined, so its hard to point to data, however in the cases I have observed in small scale with small games it has been successful, whether it'll be successful as a higher level, I argue it would be, but I can only go based on what I believe and desire, so I am sorry I cannot give you more."

    In Asian servers, there are so many cheaters. I played against a team of 4 cheaters using aimlock. I thought aimlock would have been an insta ban. not sure why there are cheaters playing as a team now but I have found very few cases of solo cheater. There is always a big group of them.

    I doubt they know how to effectively combat against an anticheat
    If playing on VAC official servers and VAC thinks someone rapid firing a scout 4 seconds into the round, killing the entire enemy team, is legit play?
    I'd like to add people to my friends list that are legit. I will gladly play in a five stack on faceit. I work 3rd shift so I would be playing at 10pm to 8am if we are running matches. Maybe not the entire time, but I am usually on Tuesday night, and Wednesday night.

    2:27 did you think they don't know how to solve a problem of this magnitude? For a company as large as Valve, solving this issue is quite simple. The only thing that matters to them in this regard is money. Given that Valve makes a significant amount of money each year from the cheating problem, solving it becomes even more challenging for them. As long as this problem doesn't pose a significant threat to their revenue, they won't take any action. Did you think after all these years they didn't know how to address a problem of this scale? Valve is much smarter than that.

    Why is it that all my favorite games have a serious cheating problem? Tarkov, CSGO, and DayZ. It's frustrating that as big as Valve and Battlestate are, they won't prioritize the cheating problem.

    Vanguard is the best only because the game has no replay system. (btw it got cracked 24 hours after the closed beta got out)

    I think most people underestimate the cheating problem. What people assume is legit playing is actually "legit hacking or closet cheating." The best can hide their cheats like a really good liar.
    I have a theory that Valve isn't acting on their anti-cheat because they realize that their core audience are all cheaters and a ban wave would decimate a massive amount of accounts like a Thanos finger snap!

    • @doom_pope
      @doom_pope Před 6 měsíci +2

      I agree that the vast majority of the cheater problem are the soft cheaters. It feels like nearly every match I play has at least one in it these days. Though I certainly hope the situation isn't quite this dire.

    • @DazzyLee
      @DazzyLee Před 6 měsíci

      @@doom_pope I think it's really hard to tell how many cheaters there are. Even when you're popping off, the other team might still be cheating, but they're really bad. Because you're owning them, you would think that they aren't cheating, but they are everywhere and they can be winning and losing. I really hope Valve values ethics over profit and we see the biggest ban wave wipe out an apocalyptic amount of cheaters.

    90% brain power on anti-cheat, more like 9%, for valve it was more important to fix one piece of geometry on a map than doing something else to better the game. In the end I don’t think we will get a better version of it so I think it will continue to be like this or worse as a better anti-cheat won’t generate any income

    Honestly, playing in sea servers, the chinese spam bots and bot farmers in casual and death match are so much worse for casual players. The bot farmers kick everyone from the game, and the spammers just keep coming no matter how many u ban

    vanguard maybe the "best anti-cheat" but its time has passed. Now most valorant games in SEA server, at least one in the ten players, will be doing some sort of black magics.
    the best way to anti-cheat is either drone strike any cheaters or start letting high rank players manually review reports like the old cs does.

      This is why riot doesn't want a replay system. They want us to acknowledge that there are no cheaters, even tho there are.
      It's never 0% when it comes to SEA with riot opening the gates to the Chinese mainland.

    Valve or any other AAA Developer wont let an unshackled A.I full access on all Data possible to learn with 0 restriction from pattern recognition because the A.I would ban the entire "pro" scene aswell as alot of streamers too. Destroying valves reputation and CS esports. Kinda sad to be honest.

    valve makes more money from cheaters buying prime then they 'care about the community' , I have like opened 400 cases with 8 of my boys and nothing. its a business not a real video game but they got greedy now they lost alot of people and the ones active monthly are just bots.. so sad to see such a good game go to waste
