Well there sort of is. Black Swan is a sensual, playful, manipulative character who uses those traits to get close and peer into peoples' memories. Additionally, she goes out of her way to indulge in activities for the sole purpose of creating entertaining memories to give to Dr. Edward. Moreso, she only says Acheron is beautiful or alluring out loud, possibly to butter her up and lower her defenses. Her inner monologue is more akin to fascination than attraction. That said, both characters very well could be a lesbian or bisexual considering the symbolism usually associated with Tango. If they are, I'd say it still takes a back seat to their jobs in their minds, though. If this animation is more than yuri-bait and there is an actual connection here... I'll be honest, with all the aggressive, violent, predatory imagery, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with this pairing. Not to mention Acheron CONSISTENTLY resists and rejects any advances Black Swan makes, even to the point of yanking her hand away forcefully at one point. Please keep in mind, this comment does not support gay-erasure, I'm only attempting to point out the deniable plausibility. My explanations could be considered "jumping through hoops", but those were my impressions on the first time watching this animation.

Black Swan literally used this dance as a trap so that she could non-consentually pry into Acheron's mind. Black Swan is a Memokeeper, this is what Memokeepers do. You can see throughout the dance that Acheron knows what Black Swan is trying to do, and continuously rejects her advances. She looks very disinterested in the whole ordeal. So then, when Black Swan succeeds and enters Acheron's mind, she's met with a blank void of nihility that starts attacking and killing Black Swan. After all, Memokeepers have no physical body, they appear to people only as memories. So when a memory enters the hold of Nihility, it'll start fading away. When the dance ends and Black Swan manages to escape, Acheron is still very disinterested in the dance. From her perspective, they just danced. She didn't see Black Swan nearly dying.

They made a conscious decision to animate two women dancing one of the most notoriously sensual dances of all time, with candlelight and flirtatious comments left and right. They could've easily gotten the point across without the implications of a tango if they'd animated a waltz. But they didn't. They chose to paint a dramatic, romantic scene, candlelit and tense, instead of literally anything else. If they didn't want people to think there was something between Acheron and Black Swan, they wouldn't have chosen to animate them in this way. Continuing that point, I've seen professional dancers look less intimate performing a tango than these two. They're touching in so many places at once, in such a way that if this was between a man and a woman the animation definitely would've gotten marked as explicit. Their chests are literally pressed up against each other, like you literally don't do that with someone platonically ESPECIALLY during a TANGO. They caress each other's arms and get so close they're nearly kissing. Even if they went into this with nothing between them, you don't just dance like that and feel nothing afterwards. "Black Swan was just trying to distract Acheron and doesn't feel anything towards her"- Again, you don't just dance like that and feel nothing afterwards. That's even proven by Acheron's voiceline when she's added to the same team as Black Swan. She directly expresses wanting to dance again sometime, and Black Swan even agrees in her voiceline. And again, even if Black Swan went into this dance only seeking information from Acheron, you can't say the same for Acheron. She accepted Black Swan's offer for a dance without a second thought, and immediately got into it despite it being her first time dancing with someone (as seen in the voicelines). Sounds like someone saw an opportunity to dance with a gorgeous woman and took it. (Though there is also a good argument for Acheron being aware on some level that Black Swan wanted to uncover her memories, but that doesn't take away from my point because she still chose to dance with Black Swan instead of rejecting her offer and keeping her memories safe.) Also, the way Black Swan calls Acheron beautiful and enchanting throughout their dance?? What??? I get that it could just be Black Swan trying to get Acheron's guard down, but again, if this was a man and a woman, there'd be no question about any sparks between them. That was very clearly done on purpose, and again, if Hoyoverse didn't want people to interpret this dance in that way, they'd have done literally ANYTHING but a tango in a candlelit atmosphere with the two of them practically all over each other, flirtatious comments included. Fandoms love enemies to lovers, you don't get to say that ships are toxic just because they have darker moments with each other. You're also not acknowledging the possibility for growth in their relationship, like they could easily have a healthy relationship with time. And the abuse allegation? Yikes. Abuse is not what happened in this animation. Acheron's memories (and whatever the thing inside her is) attacked Black Swan to protect her memories from reaching the surface of her consciousness. It's honestly similar to dissociative amnesia or some other trauma response, where your mind desperately tries to protect itself from experiencing traumatic memories again. And yes, Acheron's hidden memories are traumatic. Her past actions have caused a ton of harm, don't you think that would leave some lasting marks on your mind? Especially since certain people immediately decided that Acheron was abusive and thus invalidated any queer interpretations of the dance. Abuse is about control. I love how the homophobes in the fandom look at this like it's platonic and can't possibly have any form of tension. They can't even come up with a good reason to dismiss this as such. I've heard people say "Tango doesn't have to be intimate," "Black Swan was just trying to distract Acheron and doesn't feel anything towards her," "There's evidence for them liking men so they can't like women," or even "Black Swan was attacked by Acheron's memories, she can't possibly want to be around Acheron again after that so there's nothing gay about this," or "Acheron is abusive towards Black Swan."
"Tango doesn't have to be intimate"- Suuure... keep telling yourself that. Tango is an incredibly sensual and intimate dance that is often performed by couples. You do know what the devil's tango is slang for, right??? And it's described as a vertical expression of a horizontal desire constantly. Not just that, but even though you claim "it's not always intimate," Hoyoverse still chose a historically intimate couple's dance for this short. They made a conscious decision to animate two women dancing one of the most notoriously sensual dances of all time, with candlelight and flirtatious comments left and right. They could've easily gotten the point across without the implications of a tango if they'd animated a waltz. But they didn't. They chose to paint a dramatic, romantic scene, candlelit and tense, instead of literally anything else. If they didn't want people to think there was something between Acheron and Black Swan, they wouldn't have chosen to animate them in this way.
Continuing that point, I've seen professional dancers look less intimate performing a tango than these two. They're touching in so many places at once, in such a way that if this was between a man and a woman the animation definitely would've gotten marked as explicit. Their chests are literally pressed up against each other, like you literally don't do that with someone platonically ESPECIALLY during a TANGO. They caress each other's arms and get so close they're nearly kissing. Even if they went into this with nothing between them, you don't just dance like that and feel nothing afterwards.
"Black Swan was just trying to distract Acheron and doesn't feel anything towards her"- Again, you don't just dance like that and feel nothing afterwards. That's even proven by Acheron's voiceline when she's added to the same team as Black Swan. She directly expresses wanting to dance again sometime, and Black Swan even agrees in her voiceline. Again, if this was a man and a woman dancing in this animation and talking in this game, you'd immediately hear those lines and go "There's definitely more than just platonic feelings there." And again, even if Black Swan went into this dance only seeking information from Acheron, you can't say the same for Acheron. She accepted Black Swan's offer for a dance without a second thought, and immediately got into it despite it being her first time dancing with someone (as seen in the voicelines). Sounds like someone saw an opportunity to dance with a gorgeous woman and took it. (Though there is also a good argument for Acheron being aware on some level that Black Swan wanted to uncover her memories, but that doesn't take away from my point because she still chose to dance with Black Swan instead of rejecting her offer and keeping her memories safe.)
Also, the way Black Swan calls Acheron beautiful and enchanting throughout their dance?? What??? I get that it could just be Black Swan trying to get Acheron's guard down, but again, if this was a man and a woman, there'd be no question about any sparks between them. That was very clearly done on purpose, and again, if Hoyoverse didn't want people to interpret this dance in that way, they'd have done literally ANYTHING but a tango in a candlelit atmosphere with the two of them practically all over each other, flirtatious comments included.
"There's evidence for them liking men so they can't like women"- Oh my god, the biphobia is rampant here. Just because there's evidence of them liking men doesn't mean they can't like women. You're being ignorant on purpose if you genuinely believe they can't. Or you're just homophobic. Or you don't think bisexuality is something that really exists and you're only one or the other. That's just biphobia and blatantly incorrect, and besides, who are you to say that people can't experience attraction to both men and women? No one, since you're clearly not bi or gay yourself.

Again, Black Swan's voiceline literally responds to Acheron's when they're on the same team. She clearly expresses desire to dance with Acheron again. But even if she didn't, does it matter? They still danced in such an intimate way before Black Swan's traumatic experience with the darkness in Acheron's subconscious. Acheron is clearly unaware of her memories' effects on Black Swan, otherwise she wouldn't have offered to dance again sometime. And I don't get why people aren't allowed to ship a darker ship when it's two women, but it's fine when it's a heterosexual relationship. Fandoms love enemies to lovers, you don't get to say that ships are toxic just because they have darker moments with each other. You're also not acknowledging the possibility for growth in their relationship, like they could easily have a healthy relationship with time.
And the abuse allegation? Yikes. Abuse is not what happened in this animation. Acheron's memories (and whatever the thing inside her is) attacked Black Swan to protect her memories from reaching the surface of her consciousness. It's honestly similar to dissociative amnesia or some other trauma response, where your mind desperately tries to protect itself from experiencing traumatic memories again. And yes, Acheron's hidden memories are traumatic. Her past actions have caused a ton of harm, don't you think that would leave some lasting marks on your mind?
It's a visceral depiction that I wasn't expecting, and clearly the fandom wasn't either. Especially since certain people immediately decided that Acheron was abusive and thus invalidated any queer interpretations of the dance.
Abuse is about control. It involves an abuser inflicting mental, physical, and emotional stress on a victim for long periods of time to gain control over their actions and get what the abuser wants. That is not what happened here. Acheron was not consciously attacking Black Swan, but the monster inside her was. That monster is determined to keep the truth hidden. It doesn't care about Acheron in a normal way, and it literally isn't Acheron as far as I know. Acheron also doesn't have anything she wants from Black Swan as far as we know, so there's no reason for her to attempt to abuse or manipulate Black Swan. There's just no basis for the abuse argument. It obviously stems from people misrepresenting what actually happened as an excuse for their homophobia. They don't want to accept that this animation of a dance between two women was intentionally charged with romantic and sensual energy, because they hate the idea of two women having that kind of relationship. That's it.
Anyways. Love the reaction. This animation had me screaming for a week and I still haven't gotten over how beautifully made it is, let alone the gay implications. Lol.

A tango where the chaser becomes a chased. Where black swan starts to lead and then all of a sudden she is the one being lead. I get the yuri part but its allso a story about their team comp. Before acheron gets her power (pedals) up she is depended on miss swan, but when her ult is ready she becomes the leader of the floor. But esthetic it's a beautiful trailer extremly seductive but also scary. Great video
