  • PART 2 of our 4 day Family & Friends Camping trip up to Angeles National Forest. We bring you along to The Buckhorn Campground located at 6,200ft elevation. It's surrounded by Big Old Growth Trees and is a beautiful place to enjoy and get back in touch with nature while relaxing from the hectic city life. We have campfires every night and spend time cooking and making coffee in the wilderness. Camping is something that we have been getting into lately and are REALLY ENJOYING IT.
On Day 3 I wake up extremely tired being kept up half the night by super annoying campers behaving badly who were partying and screaming at 3am. Later on they would ultimately pay for their behavior when the Ranger came into camp for the day
. We head over to Chilao Campground on the busy Angeles Crest Highway where motorcycles try and run us off the road. We then made it to the Chilao Visitor Center and where we spent some time learning before going on a tour of the campground and Chilao Station, the US Forestry Service fire station and facilities. Savannah and I needed to call home to Madison so we found a new spot lower on the road that gets signal. I flew the drone around through the mountains again flying by the Glenwood Dad’s Club & Cabin and Pacific Crest Trail before heading back to camp for dinner and fires. We play some backyard camping games and Krystin brought Pizza for dinner while Terri tried to burn the hair off our legs! LOL
Finally getting a good nights sleep we wake up for Day 4 and Savannah isn’t happy. Slowly we all start to pack up our stuff and I show how I take down my tent and camp. Suddenly, Savannah and Ally find a snake while lizard hunting and come running to get us. It turned out to be a Medium sized Western Diamondback Rattle Snake pit viper that was cooling in the shade under a large rock. Thankfully they didn’t pick it up or piss it off while inspecting it. Respecting nature is super important. We left it alone and it left us alone. Finally after 4 days and 3 nights we head out and back towards civilization. Being in the forest is a magically place and Buckhorn Campground is so unique and beautiful. It really is a special experience every time we visit the amazing campground. It leaves a piece of it within our hearts and remains forever.

I hope you enjoy it and this editing style with voiceovers. Let me know what you think in the comments!

Hey there. So we haven’t been to Buckhorn since August, but getting cell signal has always been a big issue. We never get it at the campground. You might be able to with a cell booster type device, but Buckhorn is in a canyon lower than the mountains surrounding. There are certain places you can grab a signal below and above on Angeles Crest Highway near Eagles Roost and by the Glenwood Dads Club Cabin areas. We would have to drive to catch the signal. With a Cell Booster that might help.
