I can't believe this was released in 2008, got to be one of the most beautiful games ever released. I just discovered this series and I love every episode, keep up the good work.
I always liked this city more than Catalyst's city. It always seemed more realistic and plausible than the futiristic metropolis of Catalyst. Maybe it's just me, but I would love to live here, taking in the relaxing scenery everyday, of course without the issues like corrupt cops and politicians
@@MultiPaco06 I like that name a lot better. It's makes it more relatable.

man i wish i'd live in this extremely beautiful town! where crime is zero, the city is clean, everyone has a job, a nice assured income, and most important a family. so what the city is monitored with many many cameras? that's in the interest of the citizens! god, i wish i could live in the exact same place, don't ya?
@@nass-3484 I'd say they take inspiration from a ton of asian cities, since there are buildings in the game that do look extremely like certain skyscrapers in Singapore.
I’m pretty sure they actually directly copied Tokyo for some of the layouts of the buildings. Also the underground storm drain levels were from actual things in Tokyo. I remember seeing a video for when they made Catalyst about how they visited Tokyo to get ideas for that game as well
I semi agree. I even saw a video of Singapore, and thought: is that the city? It isn't though, it was supposed to have been more libertarian and grungy until around... 2000?
@SEV XOF They do have rooms in Catalyst. In fact, you can go inside many of them yourself, unlike in the original. Sections of the city are a bit more varied, just because the game is larger, but that original style is still very much there and intact. Just expanded on. And Mirror's Edge was always very near-future sci-fi. In any case, i also definitely prefer Catalyst now, although both are fantastic.
@@Pichuscute I couldn't disagree more. I think Mirror's Edge was not sci-fi at all. All the buildings are realistic and of very much modern-day asian architecture, they just use primary colors. All the cars are normal cars and have real-world counterparts too. I think they ruined it in Mirror's Edge Catalyst by giving it such a distant future sci-fi setting, and while it definitely looks good (even if the graphics are in many way worse than the original, such as the fact that interior walls no longer have normal maps and therefore just look odd) ... it's not Mirror's Edge. They should have given the game a new IP.
It's actually called Glass City/The City of Glass. It says so in Mirror's Edge: Catalyst. It has the exact same shoreline as Seattle. It goes by the Eastern Timezone. It is either located along the Pacific Northwest coastline/Canadian or somewhere in the east. It has 2 official languages; English and Chinese, with Japanese as a minor third.
+Dimitri Otto Catalyst is meant to be a reboot of sorts. DICE has stated that the games take place in two different universes, and while they may share themes/locales/people, they are NOT the same work of fiction ^--^
I thought I randomly stumbled upon this channel today, and thought:"If there's a Mirror's Edge 'Other Place'', I'll subscribe!" Thing is, I was already a subscriber... =)
This game's maps are even better than catalyst's. Im not saying catalyst isnt good but i do wish this game had an official free world so cuz of the fr beauty! Its a master piece!😊❤
I always thought this was such a cool representation of a dystopia. Not run down and disgusting, but sterile and corporate and monolithic, totally lifeless.
Hi! I've just discovered your channel and I really like what you have done with those games. I'm writing you because I thought that maybe the Shanghai from Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days would be a really nice "other place" to make. Maybe it's a little bit difficult to do because of the type of game it is (I don't know how you make them), but when I first saw it I thought that it was really interesting. Keep up the good work!
It's very thought provoking seeing all of these games' environments devoid of the games' respective mechanics. I find myself wishing for a completely different experience from within the environments. For example, the city displayed here makes me think of a combination of Deus Ex: HR and Watch_Dogs, but revolving completely around stealth. Thank you for giving me (and others) another perspective on level design and what could be possible with the environments in games today.
Stunning. How did you get all the shots, I didn't play the game right through but there's some where you're flying through the air? Is the music from the game? Congrats on the £870 - that's how I found this :)
HK Orbital Maybe, but in my opinion they could have been more realistic and original, ''glass'' sounds more like a nickname not an actual name it is just too abstract.
@@reconax I think it could be Sydney. On the TV screens in chapter 1, it has "aET" next to the time of day, Australian Eastern Time. On the editorial in the elevator, Pope refers to the city as a "city of millions". Which was also the name of an old video about development in Sydney. Of the major cities in that timezone, Sydney is the only one which has a layout roughly matching up with the ingame terrain. Cars drive on the left side of the road as well, and some of the ingame buildings look very similar to some real ones in that city. Also that The Matrix was filmed there, and Mirror's Edge seems to take (some) inspiration from that movie. Just a fan theory of course, I could be wrong, but I enjoy speculating about these things and looking for hidden detail.
@@mr.jamster8414 Thats a pretty good & strong theory tbh. I dont know anything about Sydney but i'll definitely check it out. Mirrors Edge has one of the beautiful maps ever.
This is literally the kind of city I'd see in a dream. A damn good dream.
I’m actually on a project to recreate this city In the metaverse so everyone can visit it, i’ll keep you updated

Good to see someone else that stops playing, and just watches the view for a couple hours :-)
blue skies, bleached yet colourful scenery and some 2000s drum and bass to run to

12 year old game and these graphics still hold up
I hope that I could create a city like this in one day
If anyone still wants to know the sound track used in the video, it is "Pirandello Kruger" by Solar Fields.
Thank you. Spring of 2019 and still playing every week.
Omg...I would LOVE to live in New Eden...its such a glorious, beautiful looking city. One of the best things about Mirror's Edge
It's actually called Glass
@@Reece-Mincher3601that's Catalyst.
This one doesn't have a name. Hence being called "The City"
The city is now called the city of Glass in Mirror's Edge Catalyst!!

+gousaid67 I'd move there even with this problem. I actually need and want the problem. It adds risk and excitement
This game is a work of art.
And also,I think The City is actually Singapore, because they both have the same similarly for being a high living standard police state

It's called New Eden. it's supposed to be a huge city spanning the entire northern part of the eastern seaboard.
New Eden is a district of the city. It's never been named.
+SEVEN XOF (7X) True, name of the city is just dumb, no originality
