I’m no Brad Mondo but I am a hair dresser! The hair turned extra yellow because you lifted it to yellow which is good but then you deposited 9g which is 9 gold (or 9 yellow on top). Basically double yellow. Next time doing purple like you joked about in the beginning would’ve actually been a great idea because purple (violet) is the opposite of yellow on the color wheel and would have canceled out the yellow that occurred after the lightener. It would have made it more neutral or even white. Try a 9v (9 violet). Make sure to always lift to the lightest yellow you can. I usually shoot for a pale yellow like the inside of a banana peel 😊 T 18 I think is blue so that would have worked if canceling out orange. Also, I would use a 5 or 6 volume for toning to be more gentle on the hair. But anywho you guys did a great job and I just adore you two. Thank you for sharing your life with us 🍓🩷
Also, don’t shampoo and conditioner your hair after apply the bleach. Just rinse it out really well. This will help w the burning feeling. Shampoo and condition after the toner. Also, u can wait till the next day to tone. Since u r doing it at home. That might help w burning too.
I 3rd that advice for toner . You could use Ola Plex , (purple shampoo) you can grab it at Ulta . I’m not sure that Sally’s carries it , maybe in Florida they do. I’m from mass . You don’t have to use it daily maybe once a week . It will help as your hair oxidizes . You could also use it prior to toning if you did not lift quite enough but still within a litter yellow . the gold that you lifted to you would still be difficult to lift with a pearl or a violet . The burning is likely due to using a 10 volume . Usually a toner will come with a lotion that might be 3 to 7% . Lastly, color doesn’t lift color , re- lifting prior to re- toning was great !. I even get my husband watching you guys. We just die laughing.

My Dad has had the same exact haircut and style since the late 50s/early 60s from when he was in elementary school!!! He only trusts ONE person to cut his hair in town!! And still puts a TON of hairspray on it every single day because he doesn't want a single strand of hair to be out of place!! 😮

Sam, do you have previous beautician experience? It was fantastic watching you work on Joey's hair. I read interviews with James Marsters who played Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The hair stylist would add Sweet and Low to the hair bleach used to make Marsters's dark hair snow white color for the character's costume. The artificial sweetener was said to ease the sting.
I do my own hair all the time I've pretty much mastered the bleaching and toning just need to learn highlights. I'm a stay home mommy. I cut my husband's hair also 😊

I would suggest waiting in between bleaching and toning the hair. It is not supposed to burn really bad. Don't wash the hair beforehand to have some oil protect the scalp and maybe wait a day to tone it so it can recover a little. I personally use wella illumina color 1:2 (instead of 1:1, color 10/69) to tone my hair with a very low volume developer and the wella perfecton (/6) to keep it up

10:08 I WANTED TO TELL YALL! i have this baby oilogic slumber & sleep body wash, sleep spray and essential oil! body wash helps to relax them during bath, the spray you put on their pjs and you rub the essential oil on their chest back and feet and it has been a game changer for my baby! it’s lavender and natural and helps my toddler to KNOCK OUT and he stays asleep thru the night! it’s good for babies 3m+.

I feel your toner pain. I once shaved my head and thought it'd be amazing to bleach it so I can have all different colours as it's fading and growing. Toner on after 2 bleaches and I immediately washed it out. It burned so bad. Looked great when it dried though. Love your guys bond.

That is essentially double packing the yellow in the hair, making him look like a Dandelion. You need to cancel out the yellow out of the hair with an ash Or a violet tone. When in question use the color wheel. 😉 FYI really should use 30 on the scalp either

The foil is genius, but yeah, I think y’all screwed up with the G permanent color. I am a hairdresser and I enjoyed watching this purple shampoo. Will definitely help keep it toned. I do suggest if y’all would keep up with just touching up the roots with 20 developer and that cream whitener. It will be a lot easier maintenance. But I get why y’all go so long in between life kids and sometimes sleep is more important. Looks really good though.

Well you should of used clairol#10 lightest blonde and clairol #30 volume and use the bottle do 2oz of #10lightest blonde and the rest the volume peroxide leave it on 30 minutes if darker check so you don’t over do it and hair damage with bleach you have to be careful of hair looking to white or gray white like old lady color need no foil here is a question did you ask the lady at the Sally’s to help I have been doing hair since 1990 if you have to watch for it looking yellow use ion shampoo for blonde hair and everything thing comes with it I have used it since 1990 a long long time my hair for my lady’s it will look natural I’m a natural blonde #10 clairol look fresh and Florida type hair

And then I use joico, blonde life violet shampoo and conditioner. Definitely recommend. I never used a toner. the shampoo does the job well, I leave it on 5 mins each, before rinsing.
