I hate to gush, and I've waited almost twenty years since first hearing his works, but I really do think Kilar is the greatest classical composer alive.
You know, I've tried my very best to reserve such hyperbolic opinions; I have never once stated it, but I have searched and searched, I've listened to non-stop modern classical radio, taken suggestions from anyone who was willing to give them, and I simply cannot avoid the conclusion that he is, in fact, the best composer alive today, as you stated. I'm glad I'm not the only one to recognise this fact, man. (And to think Gorecki gets all the credit, heh!)
Yes, this is very nice, although I admit that Exodus, Krzesany are even better. Like other composers for film he has composed lots of music, just like Hermann and Rozsa, who also wrote much in the Classical vein.. ALL quite good, many music fans are missing out on lots of really good music used in film. Great stuff!
I think that it is a bit poor composition in comparison of his work. Rather targeted to commercial audience excited about some top Hollywood movies. I wish some could try and look his best compositions like Exodus, Krzesany or Piano Concertos composed especially for Peter Jablonsky.
He was born to write for cello. Every masterpiece he wrote featured prominent cellos. He wrote for the soul of the cello.
