Camping at the base of Carlsbad Caverns National Park

After the long leg of our road trip through west Texas, we finally made it to New Mexico! Our first stop was Whites City RV Park in Whites City, NM. The best thing about this RV park is it's proximity to the National Park. Our campsite was about 7 miles to the entrance. We probably wouldn't have made this a destination if we weren't camping, because it's a very small town with not much more to do. But we heard the caverns were a must see. We also mention some COVID related tips about the National Park if you're planning on visiting soon.

This is a bucket list Destination for me, I just can't do a hike like that with a mask on or I'll pass out, so I'm waiting for that situation to be over. What time of year were you there? I'm curious how the weather was at the White City RV park. I was hoping to stay there and check out both the caverns and Guadalupe Mountains.

I can agree with that. Now I’m not sure when they’ll lift the mask mandate since it isn’t really “open air” down in the cave. But you can take the elevator up and down and the 30min or 1hr walk down there is all flat, so pretty easy. We were there the first week of March. The weather was wonderful. Light jacket outside was fine.

Hi guys. We are going in Sept, but when I put “Whites City RV Park” online search…it keeps taking me to hotels & rv parks in Carlsbad!!🤨

Hm.. I’m not sure. Whites City RV Park is the RV park we stayed at. It’s at the base of Carlsbad Caverns NP. Now there are other hotels (unsure about RV parks) in the town of Carlsbad, which is about a 30 min. drive to the National Park.
