I met Del in Nashville in 1960 when he was about 25. He brought a song to me to find out if i could arrange it and have it published. I told him that I get about 500 requests a week to do that, but I would look it over and get back to him. I had him put his name and phone number on the back of his music sheet. After I had looked it over and doodled on it, I decided to arrange it and get a few of my guys to play it just to see how it sounded. I liked it and called him the next day and told him I didn't know where he was, but he needed to comeback to Nashville and sign a contract so I could publish it, but only if he would sing it. He agreed. The name of the song was "Runaway."
Jeff is singularly responsible for resurrecting the singing careers of George Harrison, Roy Orbison, and Del Shannon. To a certain degree, he put Tom Petty on the charts better than he'd ever been. The Master of All Time is simply amazing!
God bless Shannon is family. His wife and his kids and everybody out there. That follows him. No, God has his arms around him. Always in Rhonda's family deepest. Love you all ago again. Not to reiterate love to meet. Delsha's wife someday. God bless you all out there. I'm John.
Every time I have to lie it tears me apart Every time I see you cry It takes a piece of my heart I know that I said never never walk away from you I know that I said I'd always be there my whole life through I got to walk away, walk away There's nothing left that I can do but walk away Walk away Slowly turn my eyes from you and walk away Every time I make believe it hurts more and more There was a time I couldn't see, now I know for sure I know that I can't help it if it hurts you when I say goodbye Don't know why it has to be the way it is, I tried and I tried I got to walk away, walk away There's nothing left that I can do but walk away Walk away Slowly turn my eyes from you and walk away Walk away, Walk away I got to walk away, walk away There's nothing left that I can do but walk away Walk away Slowly turn my eyes from you and walk away Walk away. I got to walk away There's nothing left that I can do but walk away Walk away Slowly turn my eyes from you and walk away I got to walk away, walk away Walk, Walk, Walk away Walk away. ❤️

@@mariaharitou7642 According to Wikipedia Dell Shannon, Tome Petty and Jeff Lynne were the writers of this song. Backing vocals were Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty. The style of this song is reminiscent of the early days of ELO.
i love this song though this video infuriates me because in the middle of a great sounding concert they play a tape of this song....not just a backing tape, the live band basically mimes to a tape, none of the live sound is mixed in..... what a really weird thing to do. you can see that del and the band feel pretty goofy miming to a tape though it is still priceless to see.
3:05 Can't tell here whether he is lip synching this second last epic song of the concert or whether another vocalist has filled in for him. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. Such a forgotten talent and such a sad thing that he didn't love himself as much as we loved him. R.I.P. The full concert is here: czcams.com/video/sL6h5a2G5AQ/video.html
for some strange reason they do this song via full playback in the middle of a concert!! i know the track was new, but surely the band could have done a decent enough version of this song!!!!!

And the rest, as they say, is history.
Walk Away was truly a rare gem of a song!!
That Sir Was A Miracle Move ....Or Else.
No One On This Whole Planet Would Of Experienced "Runaway". That's Huge
Thats Amazing!! Loved Del!

Fantastic record, thank you Jeff Lyne for your assistance to Del Shannon.

The first time I heard Walk Away i was blown away!! Love it each time I listen to it. Im quite surprised it wasn't a much bigger hit!
Who knew??!? I never knew that THIS SONG was written BY Jeff Lynne, the genius of ELO, FOR Del Shannon… I absolutely LOVE ELO!!

Tom Petty too! Their sounds blend so perfectly
ELO is just Out of This world ! Del did a Marvelous job with this song ! Love it !

Love this guy underrated back then still is...One of the greatest singer and writer
The tune is absolutely haunting....takes me far.. far.. away....
Del was a class act to the very end, to me he is up with Elvis the Beatles and Ray Charles
@ Jeffstorey5208 , * Better than them , that's for Sure !! -----
I partied with my 45 records. I remember dancing around the house with Dell Shannon songs playing very loud. Mom loved it to. Miss you mom.❤️
* The Singer on the right was Del's wife.
A true genius rip del
Outstanding!❤️
Sweet dreams del. ❤❤❤
First time hearing this song! LOVE IT!!!
Great song of Jeff Lynne
At 55 and hitting them high notes what a shame he did what he did he'd been massive with wilburys
This is the first time I’ve heard him singing this song. He sounds amazing! He was such a great talent and is missed so much.
Godspeed Del you are sorely missed
Awesome track...Del was back in style with this great track...sorely missed indeed
My favorite Del song! ❤️
Every time I have to lie it tears me apart
Every time I see you cry
It takes a piece of my heart
I know that I said never never walk away from you
I know that I said I'd always be there my whole life through
I got to walk away, walk away
There's nothing left that I can do but walk away
Walk away
Slowly turn my eyes from you and walk away
Every time I make believe it hurts more and more
There was a time I couldn't see, now I know for sure
I know that I can't help it if it hurts you when I say goodbye
Don't know why it has to be the way it is, I tried and I tried
I got to walk away, walk away
There's nothing left that I can do but walk away
Walk away
Slowly turn my eyes from you and walk away
Walk away, Walk away
I got to walk away, walk away
There's nothing left that I can do but walk away
Walk away
Slowly turn my eyes from you and walk away
Walk away.
I got to walk away
There's nothing left that I can do but walk away
Walk away
Slowly turn my eyes from you and walk away
I got to walk away, walk away
Walk, Walk, Walk away
Walk away.
❤️
Thanks for sharing the lyrics!
Yes. Thank You ❤
Dale was one of my favorite they don't write em like that anymore....
His best!!!!
I bought his CD the wk it came out.
A great womper.
Genialer Song. Einmalig !!
The red head singing is his wife Leanne.
Are you sure about that? Looks like her, but I think this was done in Australia.

Has an ELO feel to it !
Isn't that Jeff Lynne lurking in the shadows? Seriously, it's not difficult at all to know when Jeff Lynne has "touched" a piece of music.
How true and yes Jeff produced it.
And does backing vocals. Jeff also has his birthday on the same day as Del's!

jeff lynne and tom petty produced this album.
there is footage of this happening somewhere on youtube

He hated lip synching and said the fans deserved to hear the artist sing their hits the way they were recorded
I would be nice if you knew what the fuck you are talking about. HE WAS POISONED BY PROZAK AND A QUACK DOCTOR.

I am pretty sure this is 1989 not 1987?
Del i grew up on your music ,it is so sad that you are gone R I P.my friend.
whos the guitarist with the bow tie he plays with orbison too ?
Eric Lees That’s me but it was along time ago. ✌️
@@orgillmathew what a lifetime dream to work with them both
Also please watch this little gem:

That is Dels second wife (LeAnne) singing background but lip synching.
Why does everything Jeff Lynne produce sound the same no matter which artist it is?
die beiden singer püppis süss
un die die gitaristin .... schnucklig
Is he singing to his ex-wife? He walked away from her for that blonde in the backing group. Maybe he shouldn't have done so.
