- In this video I test the Fishman Loudbox Mini acoustic guitar amp by jamming with my mate Adam on drums. This is a great little amp that packs 60 watts of power, but can it hold its own with a drummer? The short answer is 'yes and then some'.
I've been impressed with the Fishman Loudbox Mini since I bought it a few weeks ago. It offers great tone in a compact package, with the features you need (and not the ones you don't) at an affordable price.
The sound in this video was recorded with a Rode VideoMic Pro, so keep that in mind regarding what you can hear from the amp. It will give you a good idea of how the Fishman Loudbox Mini performs in this kind scenario though.
I'll do a proper in depth review of of this little acoustic guitar amp at some point in the future, but for now I'll just say that I find it hard to imagine how you could do much better than the Fishman Loudbox Mini for the price.
Leave a comment if you want and I'll see you in the next one! - Věda a technologie
This was a really enjoyable little jam session to listen to! Thank you for sharing! :)
I just picked up the loudbox mini charge two days ago and I am just amazed at how good it sounds and how portable it is! If you’re on the fence about getting one don’t hesitate, I highly recommend it. Great demo guys!
Still enjoying my non-charge Loudbox. I imagine the Charge is every bit as good with the added benefit of portability
just got one yesterday. It can make anybody sound good!
good relationship between guitarist and drummer, proof that to make music sometimes two is enough
Thank you!
Thank you so much for the best “in action” review I’ve ever watched!
I just ordered this beautiful little amplifier and I play a Martin Acoustic with Fishman electronics as we as a Gretsch hollow body so I’m really excited to finally play through a true acoustic amplifier instead of my Peavey EVH Half Cabinet or Marshall practice amp.
I also will LOVE the Bluetooth feature so I can finally stream backing tracks through this little guy and play over it and all through a single high quality device.
Thank you again gentlemen, you are awesome musicians and reviewers. Cheers from across the pond! 🍺 🤠🤚
Thanks for the accolade! Your guitars will definitely sound sweeter through this lovely little amp. Mine is the older version which doesn’t have Bluetooth but is otherwise the same. Enjoy making music ✌️
What a fabulous was to demo an amp! Bravo!
I love this little amp! I bought the mini charge in April 2018 and play thru it weekly. Great volume, beautiful clean sound and play for hours and never even get a low battery light! The Charge is a little bit heavy but worth it for the portability. I couldn't imagine not having this little dream! Thank y'all for the video. Great job guys!!
Glad you like yours. It’s a great amp. Thanks for watching
You two play well together. Nice demo.
Thanks. It was the first time we had jammed together. Lot of fun.
Definitely getting this amp after your awesome demo!!!
You won’t regret it. The new version has Bluetooth.
He convinced me too. I didn’t rush out and buy one, but it’s been on my todo list.
Yesterday I found one with Bluetooth for a decent price at a pawn shop. It was in “like new” condition. The only thing I wasn’t able to test was the DI output and the Aux ins.
Since I was taking a chance them not workng, they came down some more on the price!
As a player around town who rides a bicycle, I recommend it lol. guitar on my back, amp in a shoulder bag, off I go.
Are you thinking of the battery version called the Loudbox Mini Charge? It would be pretty heavy to lug on a push bike wouldn't it?
Respect
Nice demo and playing guys, I have this amp and LOVE it :0
Thanks. It’s a great amp. I should use it more often!
excellent demo. Really nice to hear with drums to get an idea of real world volume, which is something often lacking in amp demo videos. thanks.
Cheers mate. Quite a few people seems to like the fact that I played along with drums. I never knew it would be so popular!
¡Flawless review! I was entertained from beginning to end. Very informative too! I just bought a Taylor Gs Mini-e Mahogany and I'm SERIOUSLY considering to buy this amp. I'm more of a Church guy but sometimes I gig outside so I think this would be a perfect combination. Sorry for the long comment lol but you play amazing man! Keep up the good work 💪🏼
Thanks so much. I’m glad you enjoyed it and found it useful. That would be a brilliant combination. I love using mine. The new version of this amp has Bluetooth by the way. And there’s also a battery powered version if you go off grid, but it’s pricey. Enjoy!
Nice video, wonderful guitar, I have a GS Mini Koa and I definetly love it! I'm getting my Fishman Loudbox soon!!
It’s a killer combo, . Enjoy!
I have the mini Koa taylor too and I'm about to get the loudbox artist. Do you love it?
One of my buddies has a Fishbox Mini and I like it a lot. I’m planning to pick one up myself.
Edit: I was at a pawn shop yesterday and saw a used one with Bluetooth. It was a good price and in excellent condition, so I snagged it!
You guys are awesome by the way.
Awesome. I was anxious at the volume available (my band is LOUD), and it seems to fit the bill quite well. Cheers
So many demos are done in a sterile recording environment. Acoustic amps are one of those things that I want to hear in the context of a band (since acoustic is so easily buried in a mix). Great idea putting it up against drums for context.
Thanks man. I did it this way for fun really, but I'm glad people are finding it enjoyable/useful.
What were your guitar settings during this demo? I play a Taylor 110e through my loudbox mini and love the versatility. Great demo
Laughing is so good for the soul. Just like this video. 👊😊 your guitar playing is better than you give yourself credit for. Keep em coming.
Cheers mate and thanks again for your help. We should get together for another jam soon! 🎸🥁🎼😃
Tom Edwards - yes!
nice demo!
Cheers!
... real good demo!
Thanks!
I bought one about8 years ago and hardly used it due to being in storage. Just Star using it again and sounds great also the vocal function is awesome.
Nice work men...
Good stuff, fellas.
Sold it! The performance was therapeutic 🙃
Thank you!
Great video.
Thanks
Got a sublime -Freeway time in la county vibe goin on
I just went and listened to that and was digging it.
Did you ever have to change the battery on the Fishman after a year or so? What mic do you recommend for singing with it? Thank you…
Nice demo. Outdoors' really tests an amp.
Yes it really does and this is an excellent little amp. Wish I used it more.
I worked at a guitar store a couple years, and those amps are dynamite (as are GS Minis!).
Yes I really like mine. The GS Mini is my favourite ever guitar. I’ll do a review one day. I always fancied working at a guitar shop. Seems like fun.
Daniel's Loose Ends hi I need your advise is a Roland cube 15 good for Yamaha acoustic guitar with plastic strings
That’s quite a basic amp which isn’t voiced for acoustic. You’d be better off with the Loudbox Mini.
Nice demo👍 What do you use it most for?
Thanks. I hate to admit that I don't use it for anything very often. But it's a very versatile amp, that could be used in a wide range of settings from gigs to jam sessions.
Thanks for the review . Thinking of getting the battery powered one for busking . Right now I play unplugged but my ukulele has a hookup. Have you tried using it for vocals ? I'd like to put my uke and mic through one amp . The biggest complaint I get when busking is that people can't hear my voice unless they are very close .
It handles vocals well, although I believe the instrument channel is louder. One thing to consider for busking is that the finish of the Loudbox is not that heavy duty. The cover will rip easily with street use. If it were me, for busking I would choose the Roland Street Cube EX. It is built tougher to handle the rigors of the road and gives you more channels, even if the sound quality isn't quite as clear as the Fishman.
@@tomedwards81 I do have a loud voice so hopefully that will be alright. Honestly I mostly just play in parks. Most of my money comes from kids and elderly couples . I usually sit on a bench so I'm not too worried about the amp getting ruined .
Go for it and let me know how it works out for you.
What in your opinion is a good affordable amp to sing and play with? (Martin D18)
Rock on guys 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Very hard to find a demo of this amp with the mic plugged in. Can't really judge it.
I had fun watching it
Pleased to hear it
looking at the fishman mini charge and the cube street ex for my daughter to play on the noisy coney island boardwalk. The cub street 5 watts (not the ex) was not loud enough, people kept asking if the could raise the volume. Out budget is up to $1200, but of course, $499 works well too if that is sufficient. thanks
Tough decision. The Roland has more features but the Fishman is said to sound better. Can you test them both out in a store? Another option is the AER Compact 60, which is apparently fantastic but costs more.
@@tomedwards81Can the AER run on battery? I could not find any info on this which is one of my requirements. thanks
@@xoomvids yes it's called the AER Compact Mobile. Pricey though.
Nice amp (my fav. for acoustic.) Outdoors you will want to step up to the Loudbox Artist. Place it further away from the drums and elevate it a couple of feet. Ideally run two of them in stereo and don't forget to add a looper pedal to the mix or at least some nice backing tracks. Both would add more depth to the sound especially if it's a duet. The Fishmans are full range speakers with Aux and Mic inputs. You sound good though! From your other videos, your voice is a nice combination between Geddy Lee and Ray Davies.
Hi David. Thanks for your comment. The setup you describe would be marvellous, but for sizeable performances I'd generally putting the guitar through a PA. Thanks for your compliment on my vocals. I had to look up who Geddy Lee is!
@@tomedwards81 Two Fishmans will sound far better than a typical PA (simply use an ABY pedal.) Unless you are playing a concert, two F.Artists can get plenty loud. You can also run some monitors facing you like the Sceptre S6's and Gemini Engineering, etc. For acoustic though it's tough to beat Fishman.
I have the same amp. Inside, I will run backing tracks via my home stereo/receiver. Then I have that Fishman as well as two JBL MKII studio monitors (best value and sound great buty S6 is another level and ~4x the price.) I also have a Boss Katana amp, Boss RC-500 looper. A Beat Buddy (drum machine) and a Fractal AxeFXIII are on my list. In the words of your new friend GL..."All the world's indeed a stage- And we are merely players- Performers and portrayers- Each another's audience- Outside the gilded cage"
HAPPY HOLIDAYS and KEEP ROCKIN'
Sounds like you have a sophisticated setup. Thanks for the info!
@@tomedwards81 No- pretty simple actually but sounds good. A stereo set-up makes a big improvement in sound.
Excellent. What tama model r u using sir
GS Mini-e Walnut
Can you plug and use at the same time a microphone and a guitar (to sing and play)?
Yes. Works very well.
You can plug 2 guitar 1 mic or 2 mics 1 guitar
Nice house man
Wth I have a GS mini and that exact Tama superstar hyperdrive kit... woahhhhh I guess this means I should buy a loudbox mini?
Definitely!
How are you capturing the audio ???
Via a Rode VideoMic Pro. If I had had my Zoom H1n at the time I would have used that. You can also send a Mix Out to a mixer or USB interface.
Looking at this amp, is it still performing well ?
Oh yes most definitely.
At first glance I though the amp was butt fuck ugly. But it out performed my expectations, I was rather impressed. It had a good sound. But I have to add your excellent playing enhances the value of that amp. Great job on Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here . Cheers from Canada
Haha acoustic guitar amps aren’t the sexiest of things. For some reason all the companies make them brown. Thanks for the compliment on my playing. I do love Wish You Were Here. In fact, I’m going to go and play it now!
What’s the battery situation? Do you buy batteries or does it have an I build rechargeable lithium battery?
It doesn't have a battery. You're thinking of the Charge
@@tomedwards81 What gets charged? What is it that lasts for up to 4 hours if not the charge in a battery?
Nothing gets charged or lasts for four hours. You plug it into AC power and keep playing for as long as you can stay awake.
@@tomedwards81 I already have one of those haha. Thanks for your patience. I thought this was the amp for busking or playing in the garden for people who want to play for four hours, singing in one channel and playing guitar on the other. I assumed that because the video was outside and I didn’t pay attention to the fact it was plugged in.
No worries! Easy mistake. You want the Loudbox Mini Charge. It has a lead acid battery. Also check out the EON One Compact
it 's nice- but can't match the Roland Street cube's bass response-
I haven't heard that one. Will have to check it out.
Is this okay for a beginner like me? Thanks
Yeah it would be perfect. Simple to use and the new version comes with Bluetooth for streaming music or backing tracks.
What guitar youre using?
It's a Taylor GS Mini. Lovely guitar.
What model Taylor are you using here?
Taylor GS Mini. Spruce top.
@@tomedwards81 oh cool just bought a 414ce
Lovely!
What's that song??? At 4:04 :) ❤️
Blackbird by The Beatles.
Yo whats up with that power cable on the back?! Thats a terrible desing mistake
I think it’s the normal place. It keeps it out of the way. Where else would you put it?
@@tomedwards81 it seems very exposed and prone to damage being way up there
I see what you mean. I haven’t had a problem with that. Thanks for your comment.
Now do the fender acustic 100
I’d love to but I won’t be buying another acoustic amp. The Mini fulfils all my needs!
@@tomedwards81 dam it.
Hello
👋🏼
Might feet were tapping lol
Haha pleased to hear it!
You guys sound like you play together tho
This was literally the first and (sadly) the last time we jammed together. I left Queensland not long after this video was made so Adam and I never got to jam again. It’s a shame as he’s a great drummer and is also a teacher.
@@tomedwards81 well I think we all enjoyed this short window of when you guys could play together. There’s something special about syncing with someone musically
Yes and it doesn’t happen very often either.
If the police came they would probably sit down and enjoy your show and ticket the neighbour who called them
Haha that would make for a very entertaining video.
lmao
Pf
That's crapbi wanna hear the sticks pounding against that amp, just lousy
OK 🤣
Never put a amp on the floor, ground always get a stand, that's just tacky
Fair enough. I’ll try it.
the price for this portable is a ripoff ,maybe 399 dollars is a decent price , the portable has only 2 effects chorus and reverb , other problem is, once the battery drains .there is not replace for the battery ..you may send to Fishman factory for battery be replace., will cost you maybe 40 dollars ...
This is not the battery version. It’s the normal AC power version. I agree that the battery version is overpriced.
@@tomedwards81 +with all means that amp can sound loud cause is connected to the outlet .
It is indeed very loud for its small size. I was impressed with that.
