      @Hicknopunk
      I've listened to the one where the woman is choking before. It drives me crazy every time I hear it, because he says she's choking and there's something stuck in her throat, but yet you can hear him blowing in her mouth and he actually says he's doing CPR. The whole time I'm thinking STOP BLOWING IN HER MOUTH! TELL HIM to stop blowing in her mouth! WHY DOESNT THE DISPATCHER TELL HIM TO STOP? 🤬

    • @RainyDayz1991
      @RainyDayz1991 Před rokem +23

      @ Liz Nichols
      I completely agree! She did nothing. NOTHING! She listened to him blow into her mouth multiple times knowing he said she was choking. She didn't give him direction on how to do the Heimlich maneuver. So frustrating!

    • @hicknopunk
      @hicknopunk Před rokem +2

      @@RainyDayz1991 let's agree to disagree. A marshmallow is so much harder to dislodge than almost anything else. The autopsy also said she was under the influence of drugs. Let's just respect the dead together. There is nothing we can do to change the outcome sadly.

    • @RainyDayz1991
      @RainyDayz1991 Před rokem +17

      @Hicknopunk
      Unfortunately that's true. However, they didn't know it was a marshmallow or anything about drugs at the time. All the dispatcher knew was that she was choking and the man was blowing into her mouth giving her cpr. You don't think she should have told him to stop, knowing that's not the procedure for when someone is choking? I can understand the man panicking. He even told the EMT's that he tried the heimlich maneuver. Maybe in his panicked state he meant to do that but instead gave her c p r. But the dispatcher knew better.

    • @neverforgetjubjub
      @neverforgetjubjub Před rokem +4

      @jenx5870 I fully disagree. The right thing is to apply a quick, hard force to the mid abdomen area - like the heimlich. CPR is just pushing the blockage further into the throat.

    • @wk187
      @wk187 Před rokem +4

      @@jenx5870 This was so infuriating, I totally agree. In a situation like this, the first thing the dispatcher should have done was walk him through the Heimlich maneuver (hand placement, direction of thrusting, etc).
      If/when that did not work and Kate became unconscious, the dispatcher should have advised him to lay Kate flat on her back and do a chin-lift or jaw thrust maneuver used to open the airway in unconscious patients. In some cases, it can open the airway enough to let in oxygen around an obstruction. Once the jaw was open, she should have asked him to look in Kate’s mouth to see if the obstruction was visible. If he could see it, he may have been able to *carefully* remove it (or may be able to identify what the obstruction was). This whole process shouldn’t take more than a few seconds.
      He then should have started *hands-only* chest compressions to keep circulating her remaining oxygenated blood to her other tissues until help arrived.
      All of this may not have been enough to save her, but it would have given her a fighting chance. I think if he was given a sense of direction on what to do he would have been far less panicky because he was clearly trying everything he could think of to help her. It certainly would have been better than the dispatcher waiting quietly on the other line while he frantically and desperately tried to save his fiancé.

    That was the WORST DISPATCHER I’ve ever heard. As a retired first responder I know how much this woman and her gentleman were let down. The dispatcher should have been instructing him on different approaches to clear her airway. Then for EMS to go past his residence is inexcusable. I would have sued the pants off of everyone involved. Brent, I am so very sorry for your loss and for what you went through that day. But she CLEARLY knew better & didn't bother telling to tell him he was making it worse. & Anybody would be FREAKING out like that w\a completely unhelpful & rude operator who did NOT speak to him to walk him thru the right way, & the ambulance passing up his place like twice it sounded like? It’s hard to say whether or not he could have saved her given proper instructions because such things are never certain, but she would definitely have had a better chance if the 911 operator had done a proper job. It’s so frustrating to listen to him doing everything he can to save her while the dispatcher is just sitting on the line and occasionally chiming in to ask if she’s breathing for the 10th time. Really tragic.

      I'm from the UK and I was wondering how long you have to train for? when watching programmes on tv about Dispatchers it seems the training takes a while but don't you have a mentor with you for an amount of time too after training to make sure you're answering correctly and giving the right advice? That seems to be the difference. A dispatcher from the UK would be able to keep Brent calm by talking him through what to do.... like opening her airway by lifting the chin and tilting the forehead back. That may have been all she needed. Or talking Brent through CPR and counting chest compressions with him with the monitor in front that gives the green line when doing the compressions and speed. If that dispatcher had only done that and counted...1,2,3,4 with him whilst he did it, Brent may not be as hysterical. Good luck with your job, sometimes channels like this are a 101 in not what to do or say!! Also I love that the UK call the number 999 but every other country calls it triple 9 :)

      I'M FROM THE uk AND i THINK IT'S GOOD TO LET OTHER COUNTRIES HEAR HOW OUR CALLS ARE HANDLED! tHERE'S NONE OF THIS FAFFING AROUND GIVING THEM ALL THE INFORMATION, ONLY TO THEN BE PUT THROUGH TO THE SERVICE YOU REQUIRE AND THEN HAVE TO TELL THEM ALL THE INFO AGAIN. yOU JUST DIAL 999 (i THINK WE'RE THE ONLY COUNTRY THAT DOESNT CALL IT TRIPPLE 9!!) YOU'RE ASKED WHICH SERVICE YOU REQUIRE AND THEN YOU'RE PUT STRAIGHT THROUGH TO THAT SERVICE, yOU TELL THE FIRST DISPATCHER THAT ANSWERS THE CALL ANYTHING BUT THE SERVICE YOU REQUIRE. AS FOR THAT LAST CALL IT ALWAYS FETS ME THAT SHE SITS THERE AND JUST LISTENS TO THIS POOR GUY.... AND THEN HAS THE CHEEK TO COMMENT ON HIS BEHAVIOUR! sHE COULD'VE TOLD HIM NOT TO TRY AND DO THE MOUTH TO MOUTH PART. iF HER TONGUE WAS SWELLING, SHE COULD'VE TOLD HIM TO OPEN HER AIRWAY BY LIFTING THE CHIN AND TILTING THE FOREHEAD BACK! THAT COULVE MADE THE WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. tHE DISPATCHER COULD'VE ALSO TRIED TO CALM BRENT DOWN BY SAYING WE'LL DO CPR THIS IS THE RATE AND WE'LL COUNT TOGETHER. IN THE UK ITS ON SCREEN FOR THE DISPATCHERS, THE RATE SOMEONE HAS TO DO CPR AND NORMALLY THE DISPATCHER WILL COUNT ALONG WITH THE PERSON. KATE DIDN'T EVEN NEED RESCUE BREATHS JUST THE CPR AND SHOULD HAVE TOLD HIM THAT.... BUT LIKE I SAID SHE JUST SAT BACK AND LET A POOO=R WOMAN DIE WHILST LISTENING TO HER FIANCEGO THROUGH THE MOST TRAUMATIC THING EVER. I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW TRAUMATISED HE MUST BE OVER IT,,, AND SHE CAUSED HIS PAIN AND SUFFERING!! IT TAKES A WHILE TO BECOME A DISPATCHER HERE. FIRST YOU LEARN ALL THE TRAING WHICH I'M SURE IS 6 MONTHS THEN YOU ARE MENTORED WHILST TAKEN PHONE CALLS FOR 6=8 WEEKS OR MAYBE EVEN LONGER BEFORE YOU'RE ALLOWED TO ANSWER CALLS BY YOURSELF BUT AT ANY POINT DAY OR NIGHT THER'S ALWAYS A SENIOR DISPATCHER/ COMMANDER ON HELPING PEOPLE AND MAKING SURE AMBULANCES, POLICE AND FIRMAN ALL GO TO THE CORRECT PLACE AND IF A DISPATCHER IS ON A DIFFICULT CALL THEY ARE THERE TO SUPPORT. ALSO OUR EMERGENCY SERVICES ARE ALL RUN SEPARATELY, AS i SAID IN THE BEGINNING YOU'RE ASKED WHAT SERVICE AND YOU ARE PUT THROUGH TO THAT DISPATCH CENTRE.

    Ugh! 14:01 is absolutely heartwrenching! Every single emotion is palpable from moment to moment, with audio alone!! That's extremely intense and haunting imo. The direness and desperation in his voice as he's blindly trying to get her breathing, without success. Shame on that operator for failing these innocent people. After positively ascertaining their location you immediately begin instructing the caller on how to administer first-aid effectively and correctly. Because this didn't happen immediately he performed actions that sealed her fate. Poor guy didn't know what to do. Without CPR knowledge or even guidance he reacted impulsively and with negative outcomes. This is why these skills are vital!
    Even purchasing a device that can suck out a food obstruction is being prepared in a smart way. Every tool becomes valuable to own when the unthinkable happens. You can buy one relatively cheap on Amazon and it works on choking babies, children, and even adults! A total life saver and peace of mind imo.
    Anyway, to me it sounds like he was attempting CPR and giving rescue breaths, am I wrong? Sadly that's a huge mistake! You don't ever, ever blow/breathe into a choking victims mouth EVER! Not even if they stop breathing! You'll just push the lodged obstruction deeper and further block the windpipe! Had he been certified in CPR or even just familiar with it this tragedy could've ended much differently. Had the operator simply given first-aid directives instead of listening to blowing noises she knows are counterproductive. This 911 audio is one of my top 5 saddest and most heartbreaking call fails ever! Everyone F'd up here. The victim stuffing food into her face while too drunk to safely eat. The BF/caller for not asking or confirming what to correctly do, or even articulating the need for immediate directions and action. And first place for this all around failure of duty and care goes to the operator for her passive negligence! The lack of control and direction. We're repeatedly taught to expect and rely on these operators as a lifeline in emergency situations. What we get in actually these days is subpar, if not altogether non-existent! It leaves you distrustful and uneasy about emergency services as a whole. That's unfair to the majority that care and work hard. The saying, "a few bad apples will spoil the bunch" 100% applies here.
    I beg everyone who reads this comment to learn CPR and get certified. You never know when you'll save a life, or who's life you'll end up saving!! It's a priceless skill you can't lose and will forever add value to your life. At the least, please, watch a few NEWER CPR videos on CZcams that demonstrate correct procedure and currently improved techniques. At least you'll be aquatinted with the correct methods for effective performance. I'd even suggest you get familiar with infant/toddler CPR. Especially if there's babies or young children in your life or neighborhood. Odds are that one will unfortunately experiencing a choking incident at some point. Your never know when a choking situation will arise.
    Remember, when every second counts the police and paramedics are several minutes away. That can be the difference between life and death! So it's often up to us and others around us if we have the necessary skills required to survive or not.
    Gosh, this one really, really tugs my heart strings. Such a tragic and emotional call. Surely this one will haunt me in my sleep for a long time to come. So unfortunate, so devastatingly unnecessary.. Smh.😢

    I have to agree the last dispatcher did not do her job. She did eventually ask if he knew the Heimlich. However, that should have been her first question. Once he said no, she should have given him step-by-step instructions in order for him to do the Heimlich. If that's the way the call had gone, perhaps this call never would have made it to this video. And as much as I love these videos and appreciate all the hard work that goes into them, I would much rather know that there is one last call for the video because somebody survived instead.🙂

    I don’t think most dispatchers are properly trained to handle calls. If I’m not mistaken, he said she was choking and something was lodged in her throat…she didn’t suggest to give her the Heimlich maneuver 😟 Man hearing him call her name, you can hear the fear in his voice 😢 Ma’am, you can’t tell people to calm down, he’s scared and panicking. I understand she needs information but he’s losing his loved one and is more concerned about saving her

    I know that 911 operators need to get information from the caller but at the same time they also need to walk the caller through life saving measures. The Number 3 dispatcher is useless. The man has told her Kate is choking and she is being mostly silent and of no help at all. She's should turn the call over to a more experienced 911 operator seeing that she knows she is being 100% useless in this emergency call. She's saying that this guy is out of control to whomever it is she's talking to. Listening to this is just absolutely heartbreaking. Absolutely heartbreaking.

Obviously as a 911 dispatcher the woman should have been helping but beyond that as a human being I don’t care who you are or what you know medically speaking if you were on the other end of that phone call and this man is screaming for help, Screaming this woman today over and over again I feel like any decent human being would try to help in some way! How could ANYONE just listen to that and do nothing? Even worse who could listen to that, tell the guy to calm down then proceed to speak about him to your coworkers like he’s an idiot ***Demeaning Voice*** “he’s giving her CPR” she even said it like wtf why’s he doing that what n idiot.
