I’m a Disabled Veteran with spinal injuries and you help me see parts of the Country that I wish I could hike myself.Keep Up the good work that you do!!!
Thank you for serving our country and for your sacrifices. I'm glad you are able to come along vicariously through my videos.
mike mathews check out Andrew Wommack
Thank you for your service sir, Doug
This makes me think about my father. He was an attorney but always wanted to be a forest ranger. He loved art; Ansel Adams photography and Remington sculptures. He taught us kids to be stewards of the land. The appreciation I have of life comes from him. This I pass on to my children. Thank you for sharing..
What tent and pad are you using... ?
A lightning storm caught us just as we arrived at Thousand Island Lake. My friends barely got their tents up next to the lake. I covered my pack and headed up the mountain nearby where it looked like there were some caves to shelter in.
Big, big mistake!!
The lightning focused on that mountain. It was striking all around me. I did find a "cave" of sorts, but it was shallow. At least I could see the lightning strikes that bombarded that mountain for what seemed like forever. I thought I was going to die. Literally.
I was scratching out messages in the sand to loved ones.
The lightning was striking much much closer than I had ever experienced before or since. Just a few yards away. Loud, powerful, tree-splitting power.
I'll never forget it.
Like John Muir's experience being up in a tree during a storm, it did give me an up-close, firsthand, right-in-my-face, no-escape experience of that power. And it was sustained.
I had an unusual and powerful dream that night as well. I was only fifteen at the time.
Great video . I just completed that same hike on 8/29. Glad to see they put the sign up at the outflow of Ediza for the water crossing. I personally observed a hiker take a nasty fall on the boulder scramble at which point I backtracked and followed mule poop to find the water crossing. The folks at the permit station make to mention of all this. When Ranger Jake and his beautiful dog Sierra checked my permit at Garnett Lake the next day I mentioned all this to him and he said he would check into this. I am impressed he obviously took action. Thank you Jake and thank you Catherine for a great video I can watch and relive my adventure.
Thank you. When I did this hike in 2017 we contacted the ranger station and urged them to warn hikers about this. I received no warning on this trip when I grabbed my permit. I had to ask and obviously that's only because I already knew about it. I'm glad they modified that sign.
Never second guess your gut feeling. I was at that very spot last year. I had planned a trip to Thousand Island Lake, and we opted to camp just north of Shadow Lake the first night (my son slipped and tweaked his ankle. The next morning we noted that the forecast called for thunderstorms and decided the better course of action would be to head back into Mammoth. The next day, when we would have been at just under 10K feet, the sky unzipped, and it poured rain for the rest of the afternoon. Later in the trip, we met a couple of hikers who stayed where we were planning to hike, and they told us that they were hunkered down in their tent for 12 hours because of the weather.
I love moving postcards! Well done in such an amazing and beautiful wilderness. Good call on turning around and leaving on a high note. It just means you'll have to come back in the future.
Exactly. Thank you.
Another BEAUTIFUL Adventure...You are one kewl cat! This video was filled with some spectacular views...just stunning. I gotta get out there in the wilderness again. Hope to build a big garage, man cave first to better organize all my gear and then blaze some trails. Thanks for feeding our souls while feeding yours.
Another great video! You have become my favorite YT hiker. I enjoyed my solo adventures the most. You are free from the concerns for the welfare of others and go at your own pace. The consequence of your decisions belong to you alone. You bring back a lot of fond memories. I like that you are responsible and level headed.
Thank you so much! Yes, solo trips definitely have their advantages.
It was pointed out I made a typo on one of my end cards typing "life" instead of "like". Rookie move letting that slip by. :) I know you all will get what I mean. This was my first edit of a 4K video on my new software and it gave me some challenges. On another note...I am getting more comfortable with each solo trip I do. Being in the Sierra feels like home to me and I feel free from fear out there. Other than a healthy fear of lightning. ;) Thanks for watching everyone!
Cat of course we all know what you mean!! So glad you are feeling more comfortable out there! You go girl! 👍❤️
Loved the 4K, it really accentuates your content and shooting style. Curious, I saw in the description you are using the A6400, which lens/lenses are you using and which editing software?
@@HeliJim400 I'm using the kit lens currently. An 18-135. I use Adobe Premier Elements to edit.
Nice job! Very well done and extraordinarily beautiful place. Thank you for making this video Catherine!
Catherine Gregory: Beautiful scenery in the Eastern Sierras......Thanks Catherine for the memories of Ansel Adams Wilderness ! Scarboro/ Tom 🇨🇦🍀☮️🌲💚📸🐾🥾🦅
I passed the Shadow lake-Minarets area while doing the JMT NOBO in late August 2019, it’s gorgeous; but now I now know that Ediza Lake is worth the extra miles. Happy hiking!
What often gets lost in the well-deserved compliments on your videography is the soundness of your backcountry decision making. Well done to set such a good example, especially for less experienced backpackers.
Thank you!
Good call, always listen to your gut!! Thanks for taking us along!
Very beautiful country side. Thank you so much for the video and sharing this with us all.
One night at Idija Lake | The wilderness of Angel Adams
Solo hiking.
Your courage is wonderful.
Enjoy the beautiful video.
Good day!
Always a joy to watch your videos. 🐕🐕🚴♂️
Always follow your gut- safety comes first. You had a great hike! Great music
Your photography is top notch! Great scenery. I love "going along" with you. Please keep it up.
Thank you so much! I appreciate that.
Those red flowers in the meadow in front of the mountain...wow, wow, wow.
Those are Indian Paintbrush.
Catherine Gregory It was the angle you got them in front of the mountains that really showed off their beauty.
BREATHTAKING COLORS &VIEWS ! CAMERA IS AWESOME !
Thank you David.
Beautiful images. Thanks for taking us along and showing us this area.
Thank you!
Love , Love , Love the Sierras. As kids we would look for pools in the rivers where the sun was shining on and we'd get in that ice cold water and swim (bob around) in the sun filled pools, but if a shadow went over we could not stay in as it got instantly unbearably cold....but we managed to stay in the sun most of the time. Spent days in the Sierras and didn't see another person, I did a lot of solo hiking and backpacking. Those sure were the days I love watching your vids these days it brings back a flood of good memories. Keep living the good life Cat, Cheers!....oh BTW, There were times when it rained for a couple days....I was always the type to not let it chase me away and it was just a whole different adventure to me. Just couldn't cut my adventures short. I'm weird that way LoL.
Wise decision making. The best trips aren’t necessarily the longest.
Thank you for your wonderful videos. 😊😊😊
Having been struck by lightning years ago while mountain climbing, I can tell you that you made the right decision. The trail will always be there!
Again...good eye for choosing your scenes, beautiful.
Thank you.
You are putting out some great footage. And hiking into some beautiful areas. Thanks. Be safe .
Thanks so much.
Beautiful photography Catherine......felt like we were right there with you. Love the scenery most of all, but also your on camera narration and the music.
Thank you so much Tom!
For-what-it's-worth: Back in the summer of 1970, I went backpacking this same location with my GF and her family. It was great. We were suppose to have lots of bugs: they were all gone. Only had 1 small rain storm, too. We might have camped around where you camped. Fished in the lake and it was super. We stayed a week. Thumb's UP. Thanks.
Safety is ALWAYS first! Lol you can always go back another time....love the beautiful video! You say “skeeters” like we do here in Alabama! 😀
Thank you Cindy. I did say skeeters. I wonder if I got that from my dad who was born and raised in Virginia. lol
The Sierra's are the most beautiful place I've ever seen. They will always be there. So you can always reschedule at a better time.
I’m looking forward to getting back there when things calm down.
Beautiful country. Have to say you have a very nice voice. Makes listening to your experience even better
Thank you Gary.
Yes you're back to your old stomping ground!
Woo hoo!!
Hello Catherine, greetings. I enjoyed this video so much the first time that I had to see it again. I'm looking forward to a 5 day winter camp at the North end of Eldorado County. Some snow did fall up there this last weekend. Always the very best to you. Be safe and stay Healthy. 🤗
Wonderful adventure love the scenery 🙂
Breath taking
Absolutely stunning, and almost surreal looking. I really felt for you having to go back for the camera... you really put some legwork into those shots. Another great Video, Catherine :)
Thank you so much Steve.
From India ,I am a lucky fellow that I am enjoying different places through you.god keep my daughter healthy and wealthy.
I think you made a wise decision. Beautiful region, I'd never even heard of it.
Great decision, Catherine. Mother Nature bows to no one. And I don’t know how the views could’ve gotten more picturesque than around the lake. Of course, I say that about your videos all the time! 😊 Be safe, pretty lady. See ‘ya next time. 💕☮️🙏 (Skeeters? That’s what we call ‘em in TN!) 😆
Bummer that you didn't get to stay the second night, but better safe than sorry. What stunning beauty you got to see while you were there, though! Thanks for taking us along.
Thank you for coming along Mary Ann!
Very clear water in the river.
The centipede was foraging👍
Smart choice. The weather has dictated and detoured my backing trips several times. You can always go back 😊👍
Joe Grimaldi I agree. It always sucks to cut a hike short. I am glad Catherine is not only being safe for herself but leading by example.
Diane Outside Las Vegas very true, very true. I did not think of that part of it.
Cat, I can't hike but your videos take me there with you. I RV so I do get out in nature but there are still lots of people around and the scenery isn't as spectacular as what you show in your videos. Thank you so much for sharing these videos!!!
Thank you. I'm so glad you enjoy them.
Right on Catherine.
Hello from the UK....I’m new to your channel but I’m really liking your adventures ....Very inspirational 👏🏻👍🏻
My father was killed by lightning on a hike ,so im sooooooooo glad you made the descion you did. Smart woman!!!! Thanks for letting me hike through you. Will you ever try a fourteener. ? It is so beeeautiful when you get up there. My days of doing that are over but this helps sooooooooo much !!!!! Thank you & God Bless!!!!!
Thank you for taking us along. It’s all so beautiful.
Your videos are first rate! Awesome camera work. Safety first, always. Peace, and continued good luck out there.
Thanks so much Ed.
My favorite place. Beautiful video as always.
Thank you so much sir!
just awesome breathtaking.ty
Lived in Mammoth lakes for 11 years ...one of my favorite hikes. Lucky you
such beautiful scenery
Beautiful scenery and excellent videography.
Thank you so much!
Very well produced and visually stunning as always - Ediza is a gem in the Sierras. Nothing beats waking up in the Sierras next to a lake with fish jumping everywhere 🤠
Thank you so much. I am off to check out installment 2 of your trip!
Your photography skills are amazing. I am always blown away by the gorgeous scenery! I think you are very brave trekking out there by yourself. My husband and I are also full time RV living and are headed into California in a couple weeks. We are also avid hikers, your channel is my favorite! Blessings....🌷
Thank you so much Carol! Have a great trip out west!
Just watched again and realized you filmed in 4k with your new camera. Very nice. It is almost like you are actually there. I played thru my big screen 4k tv. Very great resolution!
Thanks again.
So glad to hear it looks good on he big screen in 4K! I don't have the ability to watch it in 4K from the road. Thank you John.
Beautiful, Catherine! Mammoth Lakes is one of my favorite areas in California. Glad you had an enjoyable time and thank you for modeling safety for us! Also, thanks for answering my question on the previous video about finding people to backpack with. I realize that I need to get out more and meet folks. So, this weekend I got out with REI for a local campout and met some amazing women I hope to do some adventures with. Looking forward to your next video!
Awesome Jennifer! That’s a great way to meet like minded folks. Glad to hear it. Have fun on your future adventures.
Love the Eastern Sierra, great video!!
Thank you!
Oh my the Sierras are so beautiful! And so huge - you could hike the area for a few lifetimes. I lived and worked in Yosemite, for a few years, and lived in Oakhurst, CA for a few more, and spent years hiking the mountains. Did many hikes in the Ansel Adams, but missed the hike you're now doing, so thanks for doing a nice job of showing us this magnificent trail. You're smart to get out of a stormy area especially if there's lightning around the granite.
So glad you enjoyed it. Thank you.
So glad you enjoyed it. Thank you.
Very awesome view in there. Want to be there thanks for sharing your footage.. appreciate it. Enjoyed it.
P.S. Catherine you made the right decision, safety first. 🤗
Wonderful video and still images Catherine, you are now truly following in the footsteps of the legend . Over the years I've researched quite a lot regarding Adams his work his lifestyle and abilities. It kind of brings things into perspective that his camera alone probably weighed more than your entire back pack.Your right in saying it was one of his all time favorite places he did a rare session of color work here in 1945 using the new commercially introduced Kodachrome the images are contained in a book called A. A. in color.
When on the trail he lived in a very frugal way as there was no available products that we all take for granted these days he was a master in method often imitated but never surpassed
Thank you sharing one of my own personal favorite locations in the entire world.
He’s a legend. I thought about him being in the very spot I was. Incredible.
Hi Catherine, Wow, thanks for the great new video, the 4k camera looks super. Sorry, I know what its like when those storms move through, or you see a hugh 6 foot wide Jeffery Pine totally removed except for its stump caused by lighting. It's really amazing to see how much snow has melted since last winter. And how green everything is now, I wonder if we are in store for a banger fall color season. Miss the great songs during the blogs, they remind me so much of Dan Fogelberg in the 70's but no-big-deal. Remember that song, "Happy trails to you".
Thank you! I try to let the sounds of nature come through when possible. I do remember the song Happy Trails.
@@CatherineGregoryAdventures Hi Catherine, I know, I read the reply about how the sounds of nature are enough after I sent my reply and went O,O.
Hi Catherine we met you on the way in to Shadow Lake then again the next day on the way out to Agnew Meadows (two Aussies). We didn't get many photographs (my partner was unwell) so it was lovely to see your beautiful images and video. Thanks for posting it, and I'm glad you had a good and safe trip.
Hi Donna! Wonderful you found me here. So glad you enjoyed the video. I hope you had a great rest of your holiday!
Never second guess a safety decision. There's always next time. I'm a big scardie cat when it comes to lightning in the mountains.
Yes sir. Better safe than sorry.
Welcome back to California!!!!! Lol. Great little overnighter....I enjoyed the mini rain and clouds grumbling. Good job on the flowers too which were vibrant. Your campsight near the lake was perfect! Default mode is "safety first" ......yeah that is best mode. Getting some weather reports for rain higher up near Tahoe also but no storms dropping down lower yet. Thanks for the refreshing trip.
Thank you! Are you in Tahoe? I've never been there.
@@CatherineGregoryAdventures .....no.i am in Sacramento but had a family vacation house there that my parents bought a long time ago....worked in one of the casinos too for a summer lol I have been going there a long time. My parents finally sold that house because they started having trouble in the altitude as they got older
👍👍The mountains have a unique beauty of thier own thanks for this Catherine.
The National Park Service will name a trail after you one day !!
Awe... thank you.
Wow Cat...that new 4K is awesome...and its awful hard to beat the JMT...or Desolation wilderness for beautiful scenery....about the weather....youve never "failed" when you assess the weather and make an educated decision....I wouldnt spend a cold windy wet rainy nite if I didnt have to....you made a good decision...again....looking forward to yur next vid..."the mountains are calling and you must go"...!!
Thank you so much.
I can see why Ansel spent alot of time there. The scenery is gorgeous. sorry you had to cut short the trip but yes safety first. Thanks for another beautiful video Catherine.
Stunning views
Lovely photography and video work!
Thank you!!
A lovely hike. Thanks for taking us along with you ! A respectful suggestion: (please) use a hiking staff; traversing uneven trails & boulder fields with a heavy backpack on, it`s only a matter of WHEN you fall & injure yourself...Please consider !
Awesome scenery, photography wow!
Thank you!
Nice trip. Always trust your gut and technology doesn't hurt from time to time.
Hey little buddy love the smile, love your attitude and love your videos. Never second guess your instincts. You made the right call. Better safe than sorry. Now there will definatly be a next time, because your safe. Great camera work. (Elvis smile☺)
Thank you for the vote of confidence. Thank you Bill!
@@CatherineGregoryAdventures 👍👍👍☺
Beautiful views, thx cat
Beautiful.
2 nights solo, impressive. Nature makes you feel more and more comfortable as time moves on. Imagine native americans lived their lives surrounded by the natural right from the outset till the end of days. I always see how indigenous people walked there as nature is basically the same as it was 500 or even 1000 years ago in all these intact forests, mountains etc. Same viewpoint can be applied anywhere on the Earth, if it is not a man-made natural landscape, it looks the same but people were different =D If there were people at all.. who knows. Anyway...
Awesome video....Thank You
Thanks pretty lady. My stomping grounds. Memories of the John Muir wilderness! God bless you! 💪👮
Gorgeous hike and music Cat! Your filming cuts and music selection is very good thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much! 😀
Cat! This was one of your best ever! Absolutely stunning from start to finish, your narration was just wonderful too!!! I never realized CA was so beautiful till I started watching you! You made my day! Thanks sooooo much!!! Wishing you have a great week! 👍👌❤️🎉
Awe...thank you so much Loran. So glad you enjoyed it. THANK YOU!!!
Cat I don’t recall any mention of a mouse in this one! 🤔
@@leedanielson7452 hahaaaa...no mice incidents thankfully!
Love how you captured the scenery and the storytelling. Great job!!! Thank you for sharing your experience.
Never regret putting your safety first. Beautiful photography.
Thank you Julie.
Lovely! Thanks for taking us along.
Stunning spectacular postcard scenery. The great outdoors is just amazing.
Wow Cat you’ve captured the heart and soul of the backpacking adventure....thank you so much for sharing this spectacular journey.
Thank you!!
thank you for adding the beauty of those white rocks into my day. one of america's most stunning places. good on you, girl. keep going!
Such great photography. Pictures don't usually capture its grandeur, I can imagine how much more splendid it was to be there in person.
Great job Catherine!!
Thank you Gary! Pictures never do fully capture the beauty.
I am so glad you made it back safely. That thunder sounds scary! I made a plan this weekend. Exact same rout. Thanks for all the informations, Catharine😍👍
Have a great time on your trip!
Beautiful video thanks! You have inspired me to get back out there. I used to do quite a bit of backpacking but my knees are shot. Time to get them done and get back out there.
That’s wonderful. A decision you won’t regret.
Good job with your decision not to continue over the passes! I've spent (overall) months of my life up in the Minarets (lots of time at Ediza), and could tell stories about severe weather that wasn't predicted but showed up anyway. Absolutely beautiful video work! And your personality is so dang pleasant. No showboating. I love that area so much, and am grateful for the chance to see it through your lens, now that I'm living up in Seattle!
Hi from Mike. Finally got to look at your video. I had a pretty good day on Thursday hiking to Davis Lakes then cross country to the west end of 1000 Island Lake and continuing cross country over Garnet Pass to Garnet Lake where I camped. Only light rain off and on and beautiful views from my camp at Garnet Lake of mist shrouded peaks in the evening that were lit up in reds and pinks the following morning. Many more days of hiking after that. It was nice to meet you and share a short bit of trail with you.
p.s. there are wild onions along the trail to Ediza Lake.
Wow! Sounds like a wonderful trip! Great meeting you too! Thank you fir saying hello.
Some of my greatest adventures include the words... "things didn't go as planned"! I admire your ability to make good decisions.
A gorgeous area that is worthy of another trip to be sure. It was nice to have the option to avoid that boulder field! Thanks for including the “decision making” for the approaching storm. Those ominous clouds would have given me pause as well.
Great video! Epic views!
Thank you!
Beautiful scenery...love the waterfalls and lakes. Adventure on!
