  • Featuring swimming Pygmy Elephants! The adults were shockingly quiet and graceful as they swam; but the baby was still getting the hang of it, bobbing up and down awkwardly, his ‘trunk-snorkel’ making the cutest squeaky noise each time he took a breath.
Sadly, Pygmy elephants are endangered, with only an estimated 1,500 remaining in the wild, found mostly here in Borneo’s far-east Sabah province. Indeed, greater than 50% of all Borneo rainforest has been destroyed for land development… with more and more patches of deforested land being carved out of the remaining forest. This is a terrible set-up for dangerous human interactions with the remaining elephants, who are becoming forced to seek food and a sustainable home closer to humans than ever before.
