He said come with me, I’ll show you where the money grows. He took me out back to my mom’s 40’by30’ garden and handed me a pair of gloves and a shovel. He said, I pay $7 an hour. He sat on his lawn chair, sipping tea and just watched. I knew he had planned on turning that garden for mom, but he would use the rototiller, which was sitting nearby. I asked why couldn’t use the rototiller. He said first you need to learn to run a shovel. I made $21 dollars that afternoon. Went out that night, but was so careful about spending that money because every time I looked at it I was reminded of the sweat it cost to earn it. I’ve been that way with money ever since.
