  • Easy fix for motorcycle cylinder oil leak on any motorcycle engine! Yes, for a few dollars and in a couple of minutes you may be able to solve your motorcycle oil leaking problems.
Please keep in mind I'm not a motorcycle mechanic, but, I've been into high-power chopper's for over 45 years! The ideas that I'm showing in this video I tried on my own 2006 American Ironhorse Texas Chopper. This bike has an S&S 111 inch engine.
I don't want to take credit for this idea because it's not original it was information I got from talking with a few local San Diego motorcycle mechanics.
What I'm showing here is super easy to do and just cost a couple of bucks. Now, with that said, I think you should understand that this is not a permanent fix. The only permanent fix for a gasket leak is to replace that gasket!
So, I don't really know how long this will last but as I said in the video, I gave the bike at least a 30 mile ride both at highway speeds and in the city streets. Then, after sitting in the garage overnight I looked at the engine, and I looked at a piece of cardboard I put on the floor under the bike and there was not one drop of oil!
How long will this last . . . Will it last another week, a couple of months, till the end of the season, or a thousand miles, who can really say?
But if you need a temporary fix that works and that's easy to do yourself, for just a couple of bucks, I would say this is definitely worth a try!

Repair attempt 1 starts about 4:05. Repair 2 about 7:00.

Base gaskets on V-twins will leak if you do not properly warm your engine up be for taking off and flogging it. Warm your stuff up

Sometimes you just need to re torque the heads due to heat cycles or re torque it while it is hot. Those sealants are for applying before the gasket is put on and on top of the gasket when applied to the base or head before the cylinder or head goes on, not after it is all bolted together.

a mechanic just told me that I'm better off replacing the engine or getting a new bike, so I'll probably just do this instead! Thanks

my opinion, if no compression loss leave it alone (but keep an eye on it), otherwise remove from both cylinders top and bottom (correctly) and then replace correctly👍✌

I'm just going to tell you how I fixed my oil leak. I had a oil leak oozing between the heads and cylinders. I had just rebuilt my motor with after market big bore cylinders, stroker fly wheel, 700 lift cam, dual coil single fire ignition, S&S G carb, and branch heads. This was about 22 years ago. After taking off the heads about three times I came to the conclusion there really wasn't much of a gasket between the heads and cylinders and there was probably enough vibration to allow the oozing to take place so I plugged up the oil return on the heads and tapped into the heads and ran my oil return on the outside of the motor into the cases. Problem fixed.

Great video, I'm having a similar problem. How long has the fix held up?

    • @Pilotjoe7
      @Pilotjoe7  Před 7 lety +4

It held up for over 100 miles, without a drop of oil leaking. but, I knew it would only be temporary so rather than wait for the leak to occur again I brought it into a top motorcycle area mechanic and had new seals put in both the front and rear cylinders. So, now I'm back to not one drop of oil leaking.

You Are So Very Lucky lol
As long as you are not losing compression. Just leave it alone. That's totally old school. An eclectic mix of polished chopper and rat bike Pan. Just kidding.
Your scooter is a fine example of the chopper form.
    Enjoy your videos
