The Void has been mentioned by a few people. I finally watched it.
Pros: The practical effects are quite good compared to the small budget. It’s very atmospheric. It’s good to see 80s-type special effects.
Cons: The acting is terrible. I also found it unnecessarily gory in spots.
My takeaway: It’s a mix of Night of the Living Dead and Assault on Precinct 13 with elements of The Thing (and several other 80s creature-features). But all of these films execute their stories much better. I didn’t think it was all that scary. It would have also benefited from less overt gore and more tension/suspense. The Thing is great because of the direction, the acting, the script, AND the effects. I also think Carpenter/Bottin knew when to let loose and when to hold back. Better actors would have also elevated this quite a bit. I can’t see bumping off any of the other films on my list and subbing this one (maybe Event Horizon is a tad better). But I do see why it was mentioned.
Watch Cold Skin 2017, also takes place in a lighthouse.
The Void (2016) to my sense should have gotten at least an honorable mention, as well as In the Mouth of Madness
Actually, I have not seen The Void. I'll check it out.

I really liked it.
It definitely has the vibe of an 80's film because most of the gore and monsters (some with tentacles) are practical and that's just awesome.
You also have an evil cult, a door to a parallel universe and a creepy hospital.
The Lovecraft/cosmic horror inspiration is clear to see and I'm sure you will enjoy it.
The Void is what I came here to mention. I hope you enjoy it.
Great video. Surprised by the lack of "In the Mouth of Madness"
Thank you! I considered it, but I already had one Carpenter film (The Thing being the stronger film). And as far as Sam Neill, I had a hard time deciding between "In the Mouth of Madness" and "Event Horizon."
@@christopherofdetroit very fair! Suppose we could add Possession to the list of Sam Neill losing his mind!
I'm considering doing a Top 10 Possession Horror Films so...
Happy to stumble upon this channel, happy to be amongst the early subscribers❤
Welcome aboard! Thank you for watching.
The Thing is the best example on the list, one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time. I'll have to check out The Color Of Space.
The Color Out of Space is awesome.
First time viewer here and you, my friend, have very good insights as to the methods and motivations of these storytellers.
You got yourself a sub and recommendation to others who I know will dig your style. Keep up the good work!
Awesome, thank you!
I'm surprised The Void didn't make the list or honorable mention @christopherofdetroit . New sub here anyway.
I've had several comments mentioning The Void. I'm in the process of doing a video about it. Should be coming in the next few weeks.
Nice job keep going ☺️
Thank you!
Jacobs ladder is about a break with reality it’s him literally DYING…..😂🤷🏼♀️

Watch Planet of the Vampires (1965), more like Alien. Also watch "It! The Terror from Beyond Space" (1958), more of a monster movie.
Actually I've seen both of those. I might do a classic "monster" movie list at some point. Thanks for watching!
