ELO was not only really good at creating great music they were SO unique. One of my favorite childhood bands during the 70's.
Not was, is. The guy is still touring, and his audience is like me, over 60. Look up his "Evil Woman" video and check out all the old foagies dancing to it in the audience.
@@uberduberdave Hey, I resemble that remark. They were sort of like Chicago with all the brass.
They were and even now are huge!
nobody sounds like them....not close. Such a unique amazing band. My favorite band ever
They’re unique…….
Jeff Lynne is an absolute treasure... What an amazing talent... He has had an enormous influence on music , most people are completely unaware of how much he alone, has effected, changed and shaped modern music as well as past decades of music.... It's truly mind blowing..
The string players were NOT session musicians, they were ALL permanent members of the ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA!!!!!
The first time I heard this song, I was 16, out at McDonalds with my friend and this song came on the radio. We jumped into the car, rolled down the windows, & started driving with this blaring. It was a song that had to be enjoyed with the wind on our faces!😊
Must see "Telephone Line'' live in Wembley 2017. Jeff Lynne, singer and headman of ELO was in the Travelling Wilburys if you look back on your video reactions
Jeff Lynne is a musical genius!
So is Mik Kaminski
If I could like your comment 100 times I would!!
He’s a genius for being able to mix with great people for a bloke with no ability.
Absolutely.
Facts.
Another great ELO song!
"It's a living thing..
It's a terrible thing to lose!
It's a giving thing!
What a terrible thing to lose!"
What I loved so much about ELO is that their sound was so different. Definitely one of my favorite bands from the 70's.
I don't think there is any disputing the fact that ELO's "Livin' Thing" is one of their BEST songs!! ❤
Yes I agree, but there are so many great songs on this album like 'Tightrope' and 'Telephone Line' (which was only the last single from this album). For me this 'New Record Album" was their best achievement.
❤minor correction: ELO’s “Livin’ Thing” is one of THE best songs of all time, ❤
It is their very best!!!!!!
Can't get it out of my head is a beautiful ELO song
Eldorado Overture/Can't Get It Out of My Head
Yes please 🤗
Telephone line. I was a little guy, but was drawn into that song. I knew this is different.
This one is so haunting and beautiful!
Yes, yes, and definitely yes, please guys, react to Can't Get it Out of My Head. 😍 You haven't heard the best of ELO yet!
ELO’s ‘Showdown’ is another classic!
Listening to this song and I remember when I was around 11 years old I walked into Record Bar to buy the 7 inch Single Vinyl with my Parents who have both gone on. Its my 61st Birthday and they past their love for the best Music onto me with precoius memories of them together. They fell in love with those Orchestrations and this song had just been released and was on the Top 10 in the 1970s. WOW
FYI, the plucking is called "pizzicato". In this case, I consider it a masterful way of bridging rock and classical. Love love LOVE this!!!!!
I can't believe I never picked up on the pizz as many times as I've heard this song. I don't know what else I could've thought that was.
It doesn’t get any better than that!!
Love ELO
EVIL Woman....love the live version...crowd sings along. Great group!
A very special band that John Lennon said that The Beatles would sound like if they were still together at that time!My favorite tune by ELO is Telephone Line which is tied for first with about 5 others!
As a child of the 70’s and a teenager in the 80’s I feel so blessed to grow up listening to incredible music that has stood the test of time and blow away the majority of music being made now
todays music is crap compared to other generations
So true - the seventies were pivotal for music - a decade that defined music !!!! Liked the 80's as well - great music!!!. We were so lucky✌❤
I was born in 66 and feel the same way
@@crockwell1966 Born in 64. I'm so with you 🤗
@@crockwell1966 Same.
Turn to Stone it's another great song by ELO!
Definitely need Turn to stone!!👍
Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass. The difference is in the size of the instrument the strings are attached to. Violin is smallest (I think there is a mini of it, also.) The Bass is the largest. Sting is shown playing a Bass (the wooden one, not the electric one) on videos like "Every Breath You Take."
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Telephone Line" and "Fire On High"!!
Fire on High may be their very best song of all time! Bev Beven on the backtracking is amazing...along with is drumming 😉
Telephone line??? Wtf… what garbage
Telephone Line is absolute masterpiece objectively. Fire On High not so much, but good too.
@@paulgauguin7730 oh please.. it’s a try hard trying to be a mix between the Beatles and the Bee Gees.
@@andrewwhite2431 Not really. Jeff Lynn never "tries hard," as a genius he makes it easy. What's more, he just as easily surpasses them both.
E. L. O. - Can't Get It Outta My Head 70s Soft Rock Orchestra Style that only this group could ever bring us back in the early years of the 70s
ELO is such a unique and legendary Band!!! No other Rock band has been popular in music history playing violins, Cellos, violas, acoustic bass and horns and synths as ELO.....just don't have the talent these days!!!
Im 60 years old and have seen no less than 40 of the greatest bands of the 70's & 80's. I was fortunate enough to get great tickets to Jeff Lynn's ELO 2018 Dallas, TX and I have to say it was most definitely one of the best and most enjoyable concerts. What a treat.
********Pretty much one of the Best Concerts Ir had the fortune to see. At the Felt Forum in LA and they were one of the first to use huge lasers in the show, particularly in "MR Blue Sky.."
The song "Telephone Line", the studio version, off of the album "A New World Record," is perfection!
Was a massive follower of ELO in the mid to late 70,s and early 80's.
Saw them in concert so many times over that period in the UK.Great Band and still doing it today all be it with a new line up but Jeff Lynne is still the voice and leader of the band
Yes, you noticed the two techniques of playing orchestral stringed instruments.
Bowing......stroking the bow across the strings.
Pizzicato......plucking the strings with the fingers.
You'll also notice the string glissandos beginning at 4:57 are played with 32nd notes which gives a Vivaldi-esque¹ feel to the piece which heretofore, had been quite content with half, quarter and eighth notes.
¹ Vivaldi was known for writing very rapidly played movements in his compositions
Can't ever go wrong with ELO. Just watched "Don't Bring Me Down," and you guys wanted more orchestra. Check out their song "Rockaria"!
Jeff Lynne would have to be one of the most innovative musicians in history! What a superstar!
John Lennon called ELO the 'Sons of the Beatles.'
ELO has some great songs but this one is on the top of the list for me. Love this band for its unique sounds and writing. I miss this style of music so much.
The ELO string section is:
Electric Violin
Viola
Cello.
This is one of my favorite ELO hits.
Oh. Memories of this one. :)
ELO is one of the best musical groups ever, Jeff is an absolute genius. He has worked with so many musicians, & his “Traveling Wilbury’s” contributions were great as well. Y’all did this & keep ‘‘em coming!
The word you are looking for is orchestration.
Very cool that ELO has taught you so much
JEFF WAS ALSO IN THE TRAVELING WILBURYS. And I remember reading that when Dhani was little George took him to an ELO concert and when it was over he said Jeff went home with them and just stayed on.
Jeff Lynne is a musical genius. He's the best and he's what makes ELO such an incredible group my favorite British band of the early 1970' to early 1980's.
If someone ever asks me which artist I would like to be, Jeff Lynne would be the answer. The immense musical talent he has! He can sing and can play several instruments. He is a songwriter and a producer for his own band as well as for other artists. The list of people he worked with is awesome. And with all that he stays humble and he is funny & I like his Brummie accent. ;)
Indeed one of the best bands from my childhood. Instruments are so well orchestrated to each song they play! You need to listen to a Xanadu with ELO and Olivia Newton John. Great band and great singer. Xanadu is the theme song from the movie Xanadu!
ELO, one of the first bands to mix an orchestral sound with rock. It works brilliantly well when ELO do it!
you finally got back to ELO - but I wanted to see you react to Turn to Stone but this is good too not as blood pumping though
Not sure if y’all have done “turn to stone” yet but that song rocks
Yes you guys please consider also turned to stone and all over the world
Agree
@@trudieristich795 "Strange Magic" and the instrumental "Fire On High."
The Live at Wembley is outstanding!
Yup. I keep going back to that one. Pretty much my favorite ELO song. And that's sayin' something!
One of their GREAT songs is 'Starlight'. Not a chart hit I don't think but I love it... like floating on the water in a dinghy.
Give it a listen - MAGIC
This song got HUGE radio play back in the day! Imagine NOT having CZcams, Spotify, or any other music platform but the radio. And how wonderful it is to hear a song you love ...
ELO is one of the greatest bands ever.
...and produced one of the best soundtracks of all time..."XANADU"!!
ELO never disappoints!! Great reaction ❤️
"Fire On High"... it really IS fire! A different side you should try.... an instrumental with GREAT ending and angelic choral vocals that are a big part of earlier ELO music.... also, try "Laredo Tornado"! Rocks!
Thanks, Jay! Thanks, Amber! I really love this song... and this group. 💗 #RobSquadReactions #LivinThing #ElectricLightOrchestra #ELO
The bow moves that Jay mentioned are:
Legato - normal smooth now movements
Spiccato - short detached strokes with a bouncing bow
Pizzicato - plucking the string instead of bowing
I played the viola (similar to the violin but slightly bigger and lower notes) growing up and still love orchestral instruments.
When ELO brought the orchestra into rock music, we had never heard anything like it. It made us feel like we never had, either. Just joyous music that is great to sing along with.
Found out recently about the passing of a dear friend who was into ELO. For her I'd like to request you guys react to her favorite ELO song. Electric Light Orchestra - Waterfall R.I.P. Amy
Jeff Lynne lead guitarist/songwriter (with the sunglasses) is still going strong, just with a newer band. Still called E.LO. though, just excellent
💝💝
I have my older brother to thank for turning me on to ELO, Billy Joel, Elton, Stevie Wonder, The Doors, Gap Band….and on and on in the 70s and early 80s.
Jeff Lynne, anotther genius! I love ELO
Geoff Lynne's biggest influence is The Beatles and you can see it in so many ELO songs.
Can’t go wrong with ELO. Jeff Lynne is a genius of pop music and a fine producer. Check out Wild West Hero - it’s a little obscure but so pretty.
Just to let you know Jeff Lynne was a good friend of George Harrison. He played at the studio with him
You are going to notice Beatles’s music influence upon Electric Light Orchestra.
I’m 62 years old and have been to many concerts in my life, I have to say ELO was by far the best. Showed up with a full orchestra on stage and sounded great, you would have thought you were listening to the studio recordings. Being dead center in the 11th row was sublime!
I think that was ELO2. They toured with an orchestra. Sadly only had a few original members. No Jeff!
@@DaveInBridport correct, it was about 3 years ago. Toured as Jeff Lynne's ELO.
Jeff Lynn, Brummie extraordinair.God bless him!!! A creative genius, great performer, producer and arranger. I forget which one of the Beatles said that Elo were the band the Beatles would have become if they'd stayed together. But they meld classical, Pop and rock in such a seemless way. They're a sublime stadium band too.Mr Blue Sky probably their most famous track and is brilliant effort, but Livin thing is my particular favourite. It showcases their unique sound so well.
Incredible talent
That’s why they’re an orchestra.
From the 1976 album A New World Record, Jeff Lynne wrote this tune about suffering the loss of a love. From the Spanish orchestral beginning, it rocks on into a masterpiece. The beautiful strings throughout make an enjoyable setting for a great tune. Patti Quatro does the vocals, uncredited, during the "higher and higher" part. Such a great song. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
oh no,not the buckets of maple syrup again......get a life
Next you need to check out ELO - Turn to Stone - Sweat Talking Woman - Telephone Line
Jeff Lynn was also a member of the Travelling Wilbury's, along with Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, George Harrison & Tom Petty. Y'all really should react to a couple of their videos. (Just discovered you two, and I really enjoy you. Even at my age of 74. It's fun seeing y'all get blown away by the music i grew up with...Keep the great work happenin'...
One of these bands you don't want to like but you end up loving every song they bring out. Absolutely fantastic
Now you need to react to "Roll Over Beethoven"(a great rocking song), and "Fire On High"(A great instrumental song) both by ELO.
No mistaking ELO for any other group, Amazing rock symphonies.
It has a great, gypsy-sounding violin intro that is beautiful. The gypsy violin returns from time to time.
Perfection
Their orchestral period, before they got more into synths. They were one of my favorite bands growing up.
BACK IN THE DAY ... THERE WE SO MANY GROUPS MAKING OUTRAGEOUSLY AWESOME MUSIC .. ELO/JEFF LYNNE INCLUDED!
Thee Best🙌🙌👏👏👏✌️✌️✌️✌️
Jeff lynne is the GOAT when it comes to producing and writing music. He wrote songs for the biggest bands/musicians in history! He is a genius HANDS DOWN....
"Fire on High," "Boy Blue," "Can't Get It Out Of My Head" are all EPIC ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA tunes to check out! Rock you, you two!!
SORRY about your Bengals. As a die-hard 49ers fan, I can relate this year. Tough games in totally different ways.
I agree that you should react to Turn to Stone (Live at Wembley). Jeff Lynne sounds just as good as he did 45+ years ago.
Jeff Lynne= genius. This song lifts you to the clouds. Go to space every time since it came out in the 70s. Still played heavily on classic rock stations!
The plucking technique is called "pizzicato," which comes from the Italian word "pizzicare" which means to pinch. BTW, check out ELO's cover of "Roll Over, Beethoven," it COOKS!
The 70's was the era of bands with horns like Chicago, Earth wind and Fire and a lot of funk bands. But ELO utilised strings instead of horns which made them stand out!
My all time favorite band. ELO is great. You definitely need to listen to "Telephone Line". A little slower but their greatest hit.
Jeff Lynn created a sound that could never be re-created. An absolute genius.
Never forget...the sounds of ELO wouldn't be the same without Kelly Groucutt on vocals as well. RIP Kelly Groucutt.
ELO is such a great band. My favorite ELO song was voted the happiest song ever and it was featured in a MARVEL movie, you should check out Mr Blue sky
In music, just like in life there are those that lead and those that follow. ELO lead and did their own thing.
Wow! Just did a quick search...RSR has done a lot of ELO! With "Livin' Thing" you have hit all my ELO favorites... "Strange Magic," "Mr Blue Sky," "Last Train to London" but you still have "Telephone Line" to look forward to!
Bee Gee's, E.L.O., C.C.R., and Meatloaf are 4 of my favorite bands.........
Please do more E.L.O. as they have a number of great songs........
"Turn to Stone"
"Strange Magic"
"Telephone Line"
"Evil Woman"
And the list can go on..........
I love hearing the music from my youth! I'm 68 now and am enjoying all the memories. Thanks!
I made mixed tapes back in the day. I had a cassette player, set by the radio, waited for the song I wanted to record. Then push record and waited to stop it recording before the commercials came on. It was a pain. But it was great. Wouldn't of traded it for anything. Another great Old school tune.... BYE BYE MISS AMERICAN PIE.
Next three ELO songs: "Turn to Stone" "Rockaria" and the full eight-minute version of "Roll Over Beethoven" In the latter case, there are multiple transitions and killer solos.
someone has said they've done "Turn to Stone" already do you see it on your search results?
@@KarlKraus1 Others have done it, but they haven't yet. It's not listed among the many songs they have done.
@@bradsullivan2495 exactly I think a bot or something was talking to me because "his" findings are an outlier if you understand me that "person" is the only one that's saying they've done the song so... I'm not crazy lol 😆
Yes yes and yes!!!!!
"Rockaria" - absolute YES - and "Can't Get it Out of My Head."
Their performance at Wembley Concert 2017 is the best version of this number and a fantastic Concert to boot.
There were two things in my childhood I grew up on .. Food was one and the other was E.L.O. Just awesome all around.
ELO always gets it done. Never have I been let down by them.
One of my faves by ELO!! My era!! You kids have a lot more to hear, Level 42 Something about you is fire!!! Big fan!!
Wow, Level 42....there’s a deep cut
Something about you...... they'd definitely love it
Level 42!
Love me some Level 42! Though Lessons in Love is my favorite of theirs.
@@pacebrison1453 Those are tied for my #1 favourite. I can't make a final decision and, luckily, I don't need to! Lessons in Love, so much bass!
I am a generation X’er and we were born in the 70’s and grew up through the 80’s and early 90’s . My father loved ELO , Exzuma and many other bands that many people today would never have even heard of. I fell in love with ELO because of the Xanadu soundtrack, it’s excellent another one of my favorite soundtracks is the Flash Gordon soundtrack by Queen and something more recent is the Queen of the damned soundtrack done by Johnathon Davies . Right from the haunting Violin solo on the beach that whole soundtrack speaks to you.
ELO have so many great songs. 0:42 !
Always loved the ELO songs from Xanadu. I know it was a young people movie, but what they contributed to the. Soundtrack was great.
Check them out live at Wembley stadium. Amazing performance there!
the singer is Jeff Lynn he was also in The Traveling Wilburys
That song got stuck in my brain when i started Telltale's The Guardians Of The Galaxy game. I knew the song before because my father used to listen to it. I know you guys are not gamers but i was just mentioning why i like it so much now. I'm a gamer! Can't help it! It's one of my hobbies! 😆
Great classics!
Love ELO. And so much better visually.
Oh yeah, BTW, Jeff is just too 🔥🔥🔥
jeff lynne..... one of the greatest composers & producers
Jeff Lynne is simply brilliant. ELO truly are his brainchild. That’s why that music has stood the test of time.
