  • Got any of these cards in an old box? Remember playing with and collecting these vintage cards in the '90s? One of the only things hotter than crypto right now is collectibles! Sports cards, and games like Magic the Gathering are seeing interest (and prices) spike to new highs. I'm currently going through my old decks and pulling out everything over $10 - which is suddenly quite a lot! Here's what ten grand gets you nowadays, shown in a 3 minute video clip.

I have a bunch of sports cards inherited in the 90's when there were a million new kinds of cards.
    Market was flooded.
Now it seems all worth $1 - $3USD unless graded.
The ones from the 50's - 70's are mostly commons but still need grading BS.
Amazing the game cards went nuts.
All of this card market is going to completely TANK in short order.
I sell and turn into metal or pay bills... cuz I'm reee-icchh !

I remember hanging out at hobby shops in the second half of the 90s, slightly older guys would come in flashing several hundred in cash, and buy up anything of value from the display cases. I couldn't figure out what they were up to. "What kind of deck are you building?" I asked. "I'm investing in the cards I think will do best in the long term. None of these cards will ever be played with again." I have kept track of prices ever since, and looking back, I must say they were incredibly smart. Most of those out of print cards have gone up every year since, and in 2021 they're doubling every few months. The sport card market crashed in early 1990s because of overproduction of new cards. Old Magic cards weren't overprinted, so when they experience a surge in prices, it tends to be permanent. Like old art, antique cars, etc.

@@drutter Yes, cards had sorted out by the second half of the 90's. I inherited nothing from those years because he up and died in '95. What a jerk ! ;-)

I used to keep all my old magic cards in the garage, Now they're worth more than the house.

I made a mistake when I was young, I made a big purchase just when a new edition came out, instead of going for the older edition, I bought the new edition

      Regrets..... heh.
Yeah, I remember putting a Wayne Gretzky rookie card in the spokes of our bikes. We had 2, so we used the one that was in worse condition. That was smart! Now that card goes for more than a million each. I also remember having several Mario Lemeiux rookie cards, which I'd got out of packs. Some older kid offered me several goalie cards for them and I lunged at the chance. Goalies had special value to us kids for some reason. Woops. Oh well, sometimes it's not about money.

This is how collectible cards are displayed, not how they're stored.

It's an attempt to try to con more channel views, these cards are worthless

Looks like maybe a thousand dollars but you need more beta and alpha to get in the higher brackets. I have three black lotus cards myself. Been sitting in a safe since 1996.

Amazingly, it would cost about 15 grand to buy that stack of cards today. Individually I could sell them for 10k right now. Have a look at some current price guides.

He'd be lucky to get $50, what card in that stack was worth money?
