Hands down, the most realistic prison documentary I've watched. Perhaps because I did 5 years in the Pennsylvania DOC. I still remember my number. I still have nightmares. One message is very clear- commit crimes, and this place is waiting for anyone. I became a father almost 4 years ago. I can truly say that I am a good father. I succeeded. Why? Because I understand the value of very simple things..e.g. sitting outside on a nice day, climbing a tree, privacy......and I understand the importance of things like being a good citizen, holding a job, helping an old lady carry a bag, living within my means... I genuinely feel a connection to anyone who might also feel a connection to the video. God bless everyone!

Regret is the worst. And u have hatred for yourself for getting in that situation. U spend the rest of your life wishing u could take it back and change what happened. But u can't. U are stuck in a never-ending nightmare from hell. And u spend every moment of the rest of your life suffering over a split second decision that changed everything.
I feel for these men. I know what it's like to be in my own prison of constant, neverending,
regret. Which is better than being locked up in a real prison too, on top of it. Excellent doc. And I see an incredible amount of genuine remorse in these men.

Some of these men sound so angry, and complaining about the situation that they are in. I'm not 100% on board with this judicial system-- far from it, but they knew that their crime (s) carried these penalties. This is it. This IS prison.
I know there are options; I know that there exists in prisons libraries, counseling, classes for advancement in education. I believe you will see the difference in inmates with an attitude of gratitude, and a reach above remorse.
What is sad is that these guys got a taste of imprisonment at early ages and maybe weren't offered an alternative way. Maybe. But I sure wouldn't want to be in the wrong place when these men were in a bad mood. js
There are resources, although some might not see them. But whining about where you are and the conditions with which you need to deal wane dismal compared to the sentence you gave to your victims. Our sentence, as an Innocent, is life.

Going to jail is the punishment for breaking the law, you shouldn’t be treated like an animal in jail. They should offer actual trades, learn how to budget, learn how to cook and grocery shop. They should earn a living wage and when you are done your stint in jail, your record should be wiped, you are constantly punishing someone for something they have already paid for. Why not look at the new jails in Iceland, Sweden and Norway. All this is, is a fkn slave labour

I don't have to imagine it because I did 16years as an innocent man. I look at these shows because the feelings of the men speaking are my memories that won't go away. I been out 6years but not really because we are where our mind is at. This world I live in know is so different from the one I left. I lost all the males in family Dad,uncles but I'm blessed to have the females still here. I don't know,I just wish or thought it be over with. But the pains not cheap, about a year ago I was diagnosed with Heart Failure. I know it's a direct result of my false incarceration. I developed PTSD earlier on and something that the guys didn't talk about was the terrible medical symptom of the the state prisons aleast here in Texas. Also the food I was forced to eat to live for 16years played a part in it. My pin up anger rage at just everything and everyone around me for all those years made my Heart sick.

Yes and no. Some crimes like a murder with extreme cruelty or torture I don’t think you get a second chance. Because if you’re that kind of person with that mentality or capability to torture someone before you kill them or the same with children I honestly don’t think you deserve anything but prison or death. Sometimes though, as a father of two, I feel like if someone did something to harm or kill or abuse my children, I know what I would do to somebody and I Feel that’s truly the only circumstance where you should have a little bit of leeway in the sentence or parole possibility. But I do agree with you that a lot of non violent sentences are absurd in the length of time given. It doesn’t help in most cases, it’s detrimental to the suspects mentality and outlook on life.

in most countries the average criminal makes 200-400k a year if you calculate profit from crime per year in jail. Many more make hundreds of millions per year if they are smart and commit financial crimes. "hush puppy" stole 1.7bn USD and did 4 years in a US prison, that works out to nearly 250m a year profit, and has only paid 2m USD back. Crime absolutely pays well, only top atheletes and hedge fund managers get any where near the criminals earnings. Also it costs 100k + per year in rent to keep one in there. Free food, free security, no work, free drugs, easy sex etc.

I watch this documentary monthly! I keep it on my reel! What a great job getting the talking points across without all the yelling we’re used to seeing in other videos! I also like how they men tell us their charges and what led to them getting LIFE! That must be a hard wake-up daily. Thankyou for this video! It keeps me in check!

This video is the absolute truth, I went through Graterford in 1985-1990. As i was growing up people would try to tell me where i was headed but like all good hard headed kids I knew better then anybody else. Now I have a record and a lot of jobs are out of my reach. There is a stigma attached to being a convicted felon, people look at you as if you are less than they are. Hopefully this video will be shown in the main stream to the young people that really need to see the message that it carries and hopefully it will help to keep more kids out of places like Graterworld. MY thoughts and prayers are with the men and women that are incarcerated and the ones that are being released.

1am to 4am are the most torturous 3 hours of everyday. Your arms are jello from pushups and cannot do one more, the tier is quiet, the lights are dark, the hours are heavy. Now the thoughts start. The twisting and turning in the pit of your stomach, the uncontrollable thoughts of what you’re missing and how you ended up in this very cell, in this very block in this very prison. Realizing how short and precious the 75 or so years of life you’re given. Wasted in a box made of steel and concrete. Absolutely brutal. Worse than any physical pain someone else could cause you.

I thank you for cleansing my soul from impurities, so my thoughts can be good. Then my words won't be daggers to the one's I love. O Lord, I desire rivers of living water to come out of my mouth. I desire to speak words that uplift others. Thank you father because you're helping me to see the world beyond my emotions. You're helping me to think of others. To you O' God, I am forever grateful. You don't understand how big that wall is until you see it up close and in person. Once you approach that wall the reality sets in. They recently tore this prison down and built a new jail called Phoenix.
