Really embodied the "unstoppable force" that Vader is supposed to exude. Super badass.
This extended duel really portrayed how much Anakin/Vader knew about Obi-wan, and how unrelentingly aggro Vader is. It really looks like he can just keep walking forward, with Obi-wan doing all he can to keep him back. He is forced to attempt tricks and feints to get an edge over Anakin, but Anakin only reacts to it as a minor annoyance because he is 100% confident that he'll come back.
Perhaps a bit too unemotional overall given the circumstances (like, he is supposed to be super pissed in this duel), but the confidence and vibe are super spot on for Vader's general character.
Again, super badass. Well done to Hayden.

Making fencing moves like this interesting and not repetitive rather quickly is difficult af, let alone if its going on for MINUTES.
This choreographer is an absolute genius.
It also touches base with EP4 where the fighting style between the old men fighting is based on fencing rather than saber smashing
The f are you people on? It IS saber smashing. And more of a dance than a fight. They expose their backs to each other all the time. Maybe they look cool to 10 year olds, but if your expectations aren't in the basement, the fights look like sh_t.
The choreographer was either an idiot or they told him to make it this bad. They should have hired an actual martial artist for the job, not a comic book artist. All the fights in episode 2 and 3 look goofy and silly.
This is amazing, can't believe Obi Wan attempts to decapitate Anakin twice at 3:20 , not the jedi way, but love how it shows how scared Obi Wan is that he'll loose, and what that will mean for Luke & the galaxy, and that he is aiming to kill Anakin here, his brother is gone
Not to mention the way Anakin dodges them with such incredible ease.

Obi-wan wasn't scared of Anakin. As He said at the beginning of the duel : "I will do what I must". That means killing Anakin! It's not about good or evil. It's combat! Its kill or be killed . That's just war. The Fate of their kind is at stake and Obi-wan knew it. Calling him a coward and thinking it's a pride issue out of fear he'd he lose is hilarious! What would you do if you were him? Yoda decapitated two clones ... Why? It's self-defense . SMH!

Sucks that some of the best choreography, like 2:25, was cut out, but I have to say I’m very glad they added in the force push scene. It really brought out the idea of how equally matched they were.
Well Anakin was conflicted so he was actually weakened when vs Obiwan because of how he felt for him still. Anakin should destroy him in a force competition lol

The raw footage really should be A.I. enhanced and upscaled to 4K 60fps (2.39:1 aspect ratio - SCOPE). Then deepfake Kenobi's face over the shots of the stand-in's face. Then use Unreal Engine 5 for all the background plates. Then do final edits and sound mixes for that theatrical finished look.
Nah, let the stuntmen have their day under the sun(s). ❤

@@MartabakGurih : In case you want to slow down a shot in post, 60fps looks pretty good. It also looks good in regular 2D playback, as well as 3D playback.

So I just watched this 5 times in a row because of how epic this is. The moves, the skills.. is it just me or does Anakin just look like the coolest mofo ever. And here I thought the movie version was already my favorite battle scene of all time.

I love the bit where after relentless sparring they just stop and catch their breath, wondering how to defeat the other. This movie needed that. What was cut from this movie is utterly criminal.
Hayden has his craft down to a science. He's taken his role to much higher levels, and has demonstrated his mastery with the lightsaber. With the changing of hands, swift flawless moves, and overalls intent. Its just pure bliss to watch both of them, you've done your characters proudly!

Anakin walking Obi down like that would have been a great addition. The dead evil stare just engrains the point that hes long gone, there to cut down his friend. Then Obi realizing that this is who he is now, then the fight kicks off with obi fully entrenched in the fight, in the moment. That walk down and stare forcing obi to see this as Vader incarnate. Better than Obi just basically ready to kill him right off the get go. A slight build up for obi to actually get committed to the task.
This is so amazing, I can't believe they cut it, not just the duel but Anakin expressions are great, he looks really powerful and effortlessly winning which sells better his defeat by being arrogant
Imagine if they used this music for the actual film lol. Imagine you are sitting there in the cinema. Obi Wan and Anakin are exchanging words in the lead up to the big duel, and towards the end of their conversation but while they are "still" speaking, this music busts out (and then doesn't stop) haha
The music would have made the fight better, I think. It's goofy, the fight is goofy, that'd give the film a uniform tone. This serious overblown orchestra is a mismatch to that silly childish dance that they call a light saber duel.
@@nightmareTomek Lol I take your point. I think the duel is ok, and I get what George was going for (two strong Jedi both in their prime duelling it out, and for that reason it was always going to appear to a reasonable extent they way it did appear), BUT it could have been handled with a bit more realism and slightly less choreography. IMO it also could have used some better dialogue too.
@@nightmareTomek One other thing, I suspect George Lucas may have autism (aspergers), because often people with this condition aren't so great when it comes to processing and understanding emotions, and this would go a long way towards explaining some of the bad dialogue in these films, and also the way George become overly focused on certain aspects (lightsaber fights etc). I think his wife had helped a lot with the original trilogy and filled in gaps where George was lacking.
@@chrisk1489 Ye, that'd be an explanation, if it's true. But if it is, he should have gotten himself some more help either from his wife again or from other artists. And others on the project should have interjected without him asking.
But I've seen people with a general lack of IQ do the same blunders. They're often overestimating their intelligence and think there's no need for help from experts.
@@nightmareTomek He maybe not have been on the best of terms with his x wife after splitting, and may well have had a way of thinking and attitude that he could replicate all the magic again (for his prequel trilogy) without his wife, and he may have even been out to prove himself somewhat in this regard. If so he obviously failed in that ambition, because he arguably didn't replicate the same level of quality with the prequels. As for people advising him and adding input into what he was doing, George was surrounded by "yes" men who were generally afraid to disagree with him due to George being a larger than life figure. In short, George's workers through all the ranks were somewhat intimidated by him. Having said all that i do enjoy the prequels, but there's no denying in general they were poorly executed. If George's wife had stuck around maybe the prequels would have been different, we will never know.

Honestly, I think this is better than anything we've gotten in the films - the pulled back camera angles, choreography, and lack of over the top vfx does so much for this. Also Anakin's casual expression was perfect

How gorgeous it looks! I can't even imagine how much effort and work they spent on the choreography. Evan, Hayden, Ian, Samuel, Christopher, Ray and their stuntmen, as well as the directors made duels in films simply mind-blowing. This is a completely different level of work than in more modern films.

The exchange at 2:42 is so good and I love the above angle.
If they added all of this footage into the film, I think it would’ve made it better, because it would showcase that Obi-Wan was the clear under dog in the fight. Not saying that he wasn’t an underdog already, but these shots showcase that Anakin was far more powerful than him and he’s struggling to keep up.
It’s crazy how fast and real this looks compared to the sequels. Still desperate to see BHTS on sequel dueling footage I can’t imagine what it’s like.
Also love how Hayden is kinda in between AOTC and ROTS look-wise here

Honestly it's really cool. Shows how in sync they are and more proof how they're basically one warrior who've practice dueled each other a thousand times. Plus it's never been done before
@@Cope69 The whole fight shows them perfectly in synch, like them both using the force to shove echother. But with opposing force pushes, we can intuitively guess what would happen. But when two lightsabers touch, be know that they typically resist eachother. We have no expectation that they would do something different like retract into their hilts, so it comes across as weird and counterintuitive when they do. It would break verisimilitude.

Were you a fan of the 2003 miniseries at all? I was never really big into Star Wars personally but Genndy Tartakovskys cartoon is my favorite animated product. For having so little to work with he made the most of every scene and made some incredible fights.

You've done it again. Well done! Shows just how much work went into this and as much as Hayden may have been criticized for his acting, this shows just how much dedication went into the role. Also puts to shame Lucas for cutting much of this his decision to have McDiarmid do his own sword fighting at the last minute.
honestly episode 3 has some of the best lightsaber duels from the prequels
This is EPIC!! You should see about setting up a Collab with Corridor to get the background effects and deepfakes, as well as create the unfilmed portions from the CGI reference and meld it with the finished production. It would be a crazy job, but it would be epic!!
This is so far superior to what's in the movie that I'm in awe. What a crime that all this was removed. It definitely shows how much Anakin dominated most of the fight. This actually makes much more sense, character wise and story wise. It should have all been left in.

This looks so much more high level than what we saw in the movie. I mean that fight in the movie was good, the best, actually. But this is leagues better. Much more brutal, more closer blocks and evades, much more precise.

I think a combination of this duel with the one in the movie would have been even better. In my opinion you can actually see in this duel how terrified Obi wan is and Anakin kinda overpowering him in a way. If they'd combine those factors with the fight in the movie, it would actually seem like Obi wan is about to loose, but than takes control with the high ground.
I think the fight in the movie shows Anakin just trying to impress Obi wan and flexing on him a bit while trying to overpower him. But it almost seems like Obi wan still has control over his situation almost all the time.
So yeah, I think adding that drama factor for Obi wan in it and really making it seem like Anakin has the upper hand (like in the deleted footage) in the fight, would have made it more shocking and more believable how "the highground" actually gave him a great advantage. And that Anakin thought "I'm overpowering him this whole time already, so I can over power him like before and easily make such a jump like he did against Maul" with his growing arrogance.
Cause now it honestly even looks a bit "dumb" at times when I see the movie, why he would even think that's possible while being pretty evenly matched throughout the duel. Yes I know the reasons behind it, but I think that what I explained above would have been better and even perfect to build up to him jumping over Obi Wan.
Lastly, I know Hayden wanted to do everything himself. And actually seeing him having learned all these choreos (even ones that weren't final), ups my respect to him even more than I already had! :o

What I said to Nick was absolutely disrespectful, abhorrent, and outright vile. However, it’s important to establish that Nick is leaving out key elements of the story as to why those things were said at all. He’s also adding in some lies (such as that I removed his logo/watermark, which I never did). Nevertheless, there is no excuse for the things that I said to such a hero in the fanbase, but I simply got caught up in my own rage of the moment. Allow me to explain from the very beginning.
My conversation with Nick first began on October 14 when I explained that I like to analyze scenes that were deleted from Star Wars. I asked him if he could share the extended Palpatine vs 4 Jedi footage. I spoke to him with nothing but adoration, praise, and respect.
2 weeks later on November 1st, he shared the very footage that I had asked for, and I sent him another message letting him know how much I appreciated him for doing that. We chatted back and forth a bit, but I didn’t hear back from him again until about a week later.
On November 8th, rather than texting me like usual, he sent me an email cursing at me.
Despite him cursing at me, I was very apologetic, respectful, and even said “If you want me to remove anything or make any changes, please just let me know...”
He didn’t respond to me, so I decided to send him another text message where I told him
“Hopefully you can see man to man, that this was just a misunderstanding. I fully apologize and want you to know that I’m genuinely sorry.
If you’d like me to remove the content, please let me know…”
He NEVER responded to this text message, and I did not hear from him again until 2 months later.
I was more than willing to take down the videos, or make any adjustments, but then in January, I received 6 copyright takedown notifications from Nick. This was when I sent those nasty messages to him.
Was I wrong? Of course I was. There’s no excuse for that amount of disrespect. I was just very upset and overwhelmed about my channel receiving so many copyright strikes when I had specifically told him that I would just remove anything that he wanted me to.
I would like the opportunity to apologize to Nick myself, but naturally, I have since been blocked.

Anakan just causally leans back an inch to avoid a strike from Obi one, and then immediately deflects a strike to his rear with one hand over the back of his shoulder. Completely unbothered.
It is almost a mirror from Neo vs Morpheus. STOP TRYING TO HIT ME, AND HIT ME.
I couldn't help but get Ahsoka vibes when Anakin fought with his lightsaber in the reverse grip. If it had been left in and we see Anakin training Ahsoka, it would have added a lil bit more to the duel since it would have shone that he learned a little bit from Ahsoka.
You know they pull these fighting styles out their as$? It only has to "look" cool.

I don't fking care about all these stupid forms, you get that into this empty head of yours? They are fantasy, they're made up by people who didn't ever fight for real with a real sword. For example, no real sword fighter would ever use a backhand with a sword above a certain length, because it's simply not effective, period. Therefore fighting in this backhand fantasy style or any other fantasy style doesn't look real either, and when it looks so extremely unreal like here, it looks like sh_t.

There is never an ANAKIN vs. Obi-Wan duel; there are two VADER vs. Obi-Wan duels-one at the end of Episode III, the other in the middle of Episode IV.

It takes some of the stakes out making things look less intense if they have moments to twirl the saber around
Some argue its to throw off the opponent. But it still looks goofy. Maybe if there was more dynamic body + directional movement during the flare it would look more realistic

If you look closely that's not what happens. The blade is angled towards the camera and his leg passes behind the blade so his foot can hit the handle.

I really like how they made Anakin's style as pre suit Vader arrogant and aggressive. While obi keeps up the ultimate defense. The king of counter attacks.
