Who lives in any of these cities?
I live in Los Angeles on the fashionable West Side near the beach, and I also have a house in Palm Springs. I guess that according to you, I must be wealthy, but I never thought of myself that way. However, we did buy a house in 2009 when the market was down, and now it is worth more than twice what we paid for it. One good thing - because of the mild weather, utilities are very low because we need almost no heating and very little A/C. I do not own winter clothes and wear shorts most of the year. I am also retired, and that makes it even better, as I can avoid driving in traffic.
Luis Black jokes that San Diego weathermen have the easiest job. "Today the weather is gonna be nice. Tomorrow its gonna be nice. And next week its gonna be... Nice." 😅
Lewis? You’re trying to make him Hispanic
Steve Martin played a Los Angeles weatherman in LA Story. His job was just as easy.
From arguably the best part of his first album.
You should do a video on the most expensive suburbs.
Brentwood, Tennessee (just south of Nashville) has housing costs that are 58% above the national average. Cost of living is lower than the national average so I guess it makes up for it. I don't understand why it is so expensive to buy a home here.
@@lynanderson6371 Sounds like Brentwood, CA
It would be cool, if it was as percentage compared to the city it's a suburb of.
Atherton, CA would be on that list. Very expensive and massive homes. Pro basketball and footballers call it home.
@@user-hp1ou3nb7t You think? Brentwood seems a little out there in the Central Valley to compare to the burbs closer like Palo Alto, Atherton, etc.
I really enjoyed this one. All of those cities look gorgeous.
NYC- Can’t buy a home. Have to have roommates. Can’t afford a car, have to take public transportation. Everything is too expensive but always a cool party to go to…..welcome to college for adults.
Houses in the Marble Hill, Manhattan neighborhood are pretty affordable for NYC standards. The only problem is that it's now located in the Bronx thanks to the Harlem Canal making it an island and then eventually landfill physically attaching it the Bronx.
Well when it comes to places like NYC. Remember, if many people want to live in NYC, a city with limited space. Then the prices will go up because of the demand. This is absolutely logical. If you do not have a sufficient education to buy yourself a good apartment then move to a smaller city.
Plenty of people live by themselves in NYC and own cars. NYC has one of the worst traffic jams in America. It seems like maybe you are describing yourself?
I’d much rather move to Mexico than New York. Mexico is a great place for an expat! Cost of living much lower. Universal healthcare.
I sure do appreciate your channel. Thanks so much for doing what you do! : )
West Coast maan 🤘
Once you experience living on the coast becomes hard to give up
Thanks for featuring my birthplace/hometown. being San Diego.
that's a nice Seattle pfp.
thx. i like seattle. been there twice.@@SgtPineBox
Any time!
I live in boston and let me tell ya, it’s WICKED expensive 😩
Never have I felt the way I did when I visited Boston. A beautiful city where the ghosts live amongst the people. So much history!
Wicked!
I was there in August 2023, and two boxes of Canollis from Mike's Pastries were over $100, and a small alcoholic drink at Rigley was $17. That was stupidly expensive.
I used to live around there and you damn sure ain’t lying.
Good thing about living in Massachusetts, you're used to tourist prices.
Blue looks good on you❤
Hello Mr.Briggs, if I had to live in anyone of these cities or the metro area it would be Miami. First I’m a Miami dolphins fan, second I love mild winters, I adore the mix of cultures from the Caribbean, central and Latin America, and being in FL no income tax(yes I know other aspects of of cost of living will play a role). If I were making the income to live decently in Miami, out of the cities listed this would be the one I would do.
Thx Briggs, one of your best and you look well
I appreciate that!
I think San Jose should be on this list.
Facts .... Beautiful tho and very close to so many cool things: SF, Napa/Sonoma, Santa Cruz (and it's mountains), Pacifica, Halfmoon bay and other small beachtowns, Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur, 3 International airports, North Bay with all it's hidden gems. Tons of hiking, camping, swimming, boating, etc. Tahoe, Yosemite and the rest of the Sierra's not too far either. AMAZING job market with probably the highest wages in America (along with the rest of the Bay) .... San Jose is on the up-tick and I don't see it slowing down any time soon.
Hello from Encinitas, San Diego County. Yes very very expensive
Hello there!
I live in this city because I purchased my home 30 years ago@@WorldAccordingToBriggs
Briggs, let me just say, this new look you've got going on is very Cool and that turquoise color compliments your hair, eye color and skin tone very nicely. Yes please .... carry on. I may be an older gal, but I know a good looker when I see one.
Oh thank you!
Great job Briggs ❤❤❤😮😮😮😊😊😊
Great video.. we live in metro Boston.. 35 miles away from Boston.. have a rental property in Chelsea MA (5miles from Boston) get $2950 for 2 bed!!
Haven't viewed this video yet..but I knew San Francisco would be #1
Well done
You are truly amazing🏝🏜🗻🌋🏖🏕🌅🌄🌃💙
20 pds is HUGE !!! congrats. looking GREAT !!!!
Thank you.
"Unicorn Tears" 🤣 I love that!!
Born and raised in San Francisco. Back in the 60's and 70's, SF was one of the cheapest major cities. It was a working-class city. Hearing what it has become, is like falling into the Twilight Zone. I just can't wrap my head around it.
I moved to San Francisco in 1972, and I agree that it was relatively cheap back then - at least for rent. However, buying real estate was still fairly expensive, depending on the neighborhood, and I never wanted to live in the avenues. I left SF at the end of 1984 and now only go back to visit.
Fascinating video! Makes me rethink my retirement plan to include saving a bit more. Dream big, right? Thanks for the insight!
Looking good Briggs!!! None of these cities are any surprise. Just for grins, I checked apartment rental prices in Aspen, Co. The only one that I saw was a 2br/1ba for $10,000/mo. Insanity!!! Maybe I'm dense, but I don't see any valid reason for all of these cities to be as expensive as they are.
Thanks
@amysprenkle9966 sadly, often affluent places pump up prices to keep undesirables unable to afford to live there. Yep, I'm a voice of experience and even asked some realtors off the record.
Law of supply and demand.
@@timthompson8297no. Law of an oligarchical country based on banker controlled monopoly money.
Hell in Chicago, many want $1,000 for garage, basement, and attic apartment, years ago, those were the cheapest you could get. Good grief.
❤....a girl has gota DREAM....Thank U....l enjoyed this video....❤
You look marvelous!!! 👍🙋♀️
Suggestion for a future video: what if you had affordable alternative cities to these high cost cities? Places with similar characteristics but not so expensive
Median home prices are a more helpful indication of real estate prices than average.
I have done that before and it confuses most people. If you was talking to real estate agents that is what I would go with, the average Joe just wants an idea of what they are looking at.
You look good! Healthy. 😊
Hey, you look great! I like the hair, too! (Wall of gum? Really?) Thanks for a fun video.
Thank you too!
Congratulations on the weight loss! ❤
Suggestion: When you say the average prices of houses can you please include square footage? That helps me see a genuine comparing of prices. Thanks. Just for fun, my wife and I used to go hob nob in wealthy areas but never spent money. It amazed me that we looked good enough (no surprise with my wife) people acted like we belonged.
Thanks Briggs! Great production Thanks again for your help with my channel!
Born and raised in San Diego, CA!
Lucky! I bet that was a very fun childhood
Great city, my favorite. Just got back from a 5 day trip there. Sadly, I had to return to trashy Miami.
Congrats on the weight loss. You look amazing.
Thank you so much!
Do expensive towns some time. That would be interesting. I live in Northern Virginia and I think there are 4 candidates less than 15 miles from where I'm sitting.
Greetings from Beverly Hills
Greetings
Pretty good list but I might question the order. I might also add Scottsdale, AZ and Sun Valley, ID.
And Paradise Valley.
Lmao
You should do a video on the states that has the most lottery winners. Then I’ll buy a winning ticket so I can live at one of these states LOL Great video ❤Sabrina
California usually wins the lottery the most often (which makes sense because of the massive population)
Kudos to you for shedding those pounds. Keep going and don’t stop. It’s the way to stay young.
Nice eyeglasses ! They look fantastic on you!❤
Oh thank you!
San Diego is amazing
GREETINGS FROM THE PPRC GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS. REDDING CA. DIDN’T MAKE THE LIST.? 🇺🇸🍺🍺
When it becomes the capital for the future State of Jefferson, the home values will skyrocket.
You're fuzzy! 👍
Very!
Wow....
I thought Chicago would be on there.
I was expecting Palm Beach, FL to be on this list.
not a celeb place. Surprised Miami made this list. That place is going to shit
Maybe the population was too small to qualify (which is the case with the Hamptons).
@@SA-hz1rs Palm Beach is definitely Old Money.
@@user-hp1ou3nb7t very old people lol.
@@RandomRabbit007 palm beach is a tiny village. Its like 9k or something.
West palm beach is mostly ghetto and dangerous
Like you with hair, Briggs! Very handsome! ❤
Whoa! Briggs has hair now?!!? Crazy. 😅
Is it just a coincidence that an ad for a local realtor came with this video when I watched it?
I grew up in Los Angeles (just North of it) and still have family there so visit at least twice a year. You mentioned celebrities you need to define that. Do you run into A listers often, nope but I have, but you do run into TV sitcom celebs (2 went to my high school when i went many years ago), newscasters, and lesser known actors, and reality stars quite a bit. Here a couple of my experiences. A long time ago i went to see a movie in Westwood and Mimi Rogers sat next to me and Tom Cruise next to her. Another time about 5 years ago family picked me up at airport and on way home we ate at Jerry’s Famous Deli and Matthew Broderick was seated in booth next to us. There are some certain higher end but casual/low key delis and seafood markets that if you go to on a regular basis you will definitely see celebrities, sometimes more than one and of course you will see in the airport and the nicer shopping malls.
That's a real change since I went there in the 70's.
Regarding parking in NYC: The very wealthy who own multi-million dollar apartments have underground /valet parking. That costs them an extra few thousand dollars a month as part of their "maintenance."
There is a song in high school musical 2 with the same name as the state fish of Hawaii
For being really wealthy none of these places really entice me. Well, living in an island like Hawaii sounds idyllic.
Can you make a video about Santa Rosa California
It is in one his videos, but I can't remember which one.
Some of these places seem like bargains!
Greetings from Vancouver, Canada.
"Vibrant", lol. I feel the same about "Awesome". In my 20's I left my heart in San Fran, and have loved it since. I know they will recover someday.
SF in the 90s, 2000s, and even early 2010s was AWESOME .... So many great memories. My favorite city on the planet (and I've traveled a ton). But it's going through a rough time now.
Greeting from San Francisco! It’s also my hometown. How explain is it to live here? I got out of practicing law for 17+ years and switched to working in Tech to live here.
My place now? I pay $2900 a month for a rent for a 1-bedroom…But I live a block from Oracle Park! But it is expensive.
Surprised San Jose or Monterey wasn’t on the list
On another note, the most expensive private real estate listing in the country is in Naples, Florida, for a cool $295 million. But it's on the beach with a great view of the Gulf of Mexico.
Dang, this was depressing. BTW, you look great. 😊
Thank you.
Guessing: SF, San Jose, LA, Bozeman, NYC, Honalulu, Boston, Miami, Austin, Denver, and Boise.
Eunuch Horn Tears. Are the tears because of ths horn, or because of the physical loss?
Proud San Diegan here
Total tax burden in MA is 20th. It's really not as high as most people think. Boston is absolutely ridiculous. Lived there for a few years. It's one of the nicer big cities, but the expense was brutal.
4:45. “Good heavens! A Yale man!!”
Idk why I'm watching this one bro hahaha I watch your ones about where to move too with no money hahaha but your vids are therapeutic
Thanks
Check the prices in Ventura, CA. It’s out of control.
Maybe I'm being dumb, but I don't get these % above the national average prices for housing. How is Seattle over 200% the national average but Aspen only 160% when their average housing costs 3x that in Seattle?? Are these housing costs adjusted for the average income in each city?
Brooklyn
Where do people that live in Hawaii go for vacation? Iowa?
Las vegas
What’s the minimum wage to live in major metro areas? College grads want to know.
Your hometown Portland didn't make it on this list this time Briggs i see :)
Love your videos Briggs but question. Why do you say Aspen is like $3M average but the housing % is only like 194%. Im confused how that math tracks.
Housing percentage included rent and what is sold. A lot of the big priced homes never entered the market.
Good to see you after just hearing your voice. Subscribe 👍
Ugh...San Diego. I was born and live in Oceanside (NW San Diego County) pretty much all my life. I hate it here, mostly because of the number of people. I want to move....but it's taking a while to save because of the cost.
Jackson Hole, Wyoming! 👍👍 🇺🇸
Crazy prices
Many people living in SF are low income housing, living in shelters, couch surfing or homeless.
I LIVE IN PALM BEACH COUNTY FL. IT SHOULD BE ON YOUR LIST FOR SURE!!!!!!
He was only doing big cities. If he was doing smaller cities, Santa Barbara would be included.
That counts as a suburb of Miami, doesn't it?
@phunkymonkiee no it is 60 miles north of Miami.. Miami is in Dade County, and Palm Beach is in palm Beach County ..
@LuckyBaldwin777 actually palm beach, or West Palm Beach is bigger than ASPEN and about the same size as San Diego..
@@SharonNoel-jc6fi west palm beach is small
So how much is a tent in LA???? 🤪
How much is a trailer in florida
Our former run down 1,200 square foot shot gun shack 🏚️ rental from 1966 in the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles, California is supposedly $1M+ We bought a 4 year old 5,000+ square foot home in Ohio for well below $800k.
But yes, weather sucks here 🌧️ ❄️ ⛄️
You look great! Congratulations!
Thank you so much 😀
In some of these cities, youre basically paying a shit ton for a home that would cost you a fraction of that in most cities. At that point, "the rich" or whichever exclusive club theyre a part of, is just paying a premium to be around people like them.
Bet Los Angeles on this list
I live in the SF Bay Area and the 408% figure just made me laugh and laugh. I guess when it is too painful you do that. Been here since 1969 and the last time it was considered reasonable prices was in the mid 1980’s. It just gets crazier and crazier. At this point it’s just a sick game to tell people how much it costs to buy a home in another city.
For the algorithm
Your number one was a real “ shocker”
Damn when your housing price is like the crime stat for detroit, baltimore and east st louis combined 😂
I was surprised not to see Jackson Wyoming in there !
I have a friend who went out there to help open the whole foods out there. He was there for a month and said most of the customers were rich people from Colorado who moved out there
Good point.
“Rich” you can also define: having true friends/having a purpose in life/being able to look at yourself in the mirror and smile/being blessed with good health/having kids and a family, etc.
“The grabbing hand, grab all they can. Everything counts in large amounts” -Depeche Mode.
You can, but 99% of the population looks at it as having a lot of money
😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴
It mostly means you have money
Blah blah blah
No that's pretty much being happy and content. Rich really is defined by net worth.
damn the numbers here are WILD 😂😂
I'm surprised Las Vegas is not on this list. My sister lives there, and tells me it is very expensive.
The beard is a good look for you
What makes Miami so expensive is the relatively low/average incomes of so much of the population. It's not unusual for folks to work 2 full time jobs, or at least one full time and 1 part time job or side hustle.
OK, there are two kinds of people, and I’m not one of them! Pass it on. N.E.OH Bob
I lived in NYC for a couple of years, and state + city income tax was about the same as my federal tax--but I got a refund on my federal tax, and I never did on my state and city tax. People complain about CA taxes, butI grew up there and spent many years there as an adult, and taxes there are NOTHING compares to NYC.
That is because CA has Prop 13 which makes the property taxes low and prevents them from increasing more than approximate 1% of the purchase price each year. It keeps people from getting taxed out of their home, but also keeps people in those too long so constrains the number of homes on the market. Results in a lot of 60+ couples in 5 bedroom homes.
@@JBoy340a I was talking about income tax, not property tax, as I didn't own property in NYC. We paid a lot of income tax in CA but it was nothing compared to NY.
I stick to my cheap rural Illinois!!! Where I have 3000 sq ft house on an acre, that I paid 150,000 for 18 months ago!!!! 😅😅😅
So, what's wrong with it?
@@ShermanMark1 not a damn thing! Not an overpriced metro house!!!
@@ShermanMark1it’s Illinois that’s wrong with it. 😂😂🤢🤮
@@jasonknight5863 not Shitcago or Florida!!!
