    ABOUT STURGIS, SOUTH DAKOTA
In the early days, Sturgis was referred to as Scoop Town. There are a number of stories that persist as to why this name was used, but most are variations on a common theme. Fort Meade, originally Camp J.G. Sturgis, was established to protect travelers to the Black Hills during the gold rush years, around 1878. What was to become Sturgis sprang up to meet the needs of the soldiers and miners. The early entrepreneurs, many of them proprietors of saloons and brothels, were said to “scoop up” the money of the cavalrymen and miners. Other stories are that the early town was so lucrative and so much disposable income was available to those entrepreneurs they literally had to “scoop up” all the profit.
The very first Sturgis motorcycle rally was held on August 14, 1938. The event was organized by the town’s motorcycle club called the Jackpine Gypsies who bought and developed large tracks, hill climbs and field areas where the rally would be held.
“Pappy” Hoel - Founder of the Sturgis Rally! It was Clarence Hoel or "Pappy" who was credited for founding the event when he bought a franchise of the Indian Motorcycle Company (a manufacturer of motorcycles in North Carolina) in Sturgis during 1936. After that, he organized the Jackpine Gypsies.
During the first few years, the Sturgis motorcycle rally focused on racing and stunts, testing the participant’s various riding skills, courage and stunt creativity. By the 1960s, the rally action expanded with hill climbs and motocross. Audiences saw more daredevil maneuvers like the half-mile track racing, ramp jumps, head-on automobile crashes and board wall crashes, the reasons for the tremendous popularity of the event today. The only time that the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally was not held was in 1942, at the height of World War II.
Today, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally continues to reap the support and attendance of both participants and motorcycle fans all over the United States and in some parts of the world. In 2015, a record 739,000 attended the rally’s 75th anniversary, including entire families who came with their RVs and rode the few last miles to Sturgis on their motorcycles.

What set up does Josh have on the back of his Road King? I really like the idea of a rigid, waterproof/dust proof box. Is that something you can buy specific to Harley or was that something that has to be modified to work on a Harley or other after-market rack? I currently try run the King rack on the back of my Road King Special and would love to do some type of box set up like Josh has. Love the channel.
PS- the wife and I just did the Moro Bay to Monterrey ride and loved it. Took your advice and ate at Linn’s in Cambria, CA; an excellent suggestion.

He has a pelican 2620 bolted to a 2-up cobra tour pack rack. He made a quick release setup that you can see on his instagram story highlights at @2lane.jay
Sounds like you guys had a great ride and did it right! Nothing like a delicious breakfast at Linn's! Thanks for sharing 👍

That's the problem with people, they don't know what they have in their back yard, the history, beautiful lakes, rivers and parks, but no they would rather go tropical get sunburn and spent thousands of dollars when for less they have it all in their back yard. Peace.
