I use the squint factor, never know what will come flying out... I opened up a maytag washing machine transmission once... had a giant coil spring in it, went flying.. scared me to death.

I kept watching to see if it blew up. lol. But I know that feeling of just wanting to know what's inside that thing.

Yah , same. I never had an epirb . They are a lot cheaper now but still run $500 plus. I'm more of the self rescue type anyway.
