the industry is getting thinner because of layoffs so getting into it gets harder and harder unless you learn more specialized software like houdini, which are on demand from what i noticed, so indie industry is getting bigger and bigger becoming the new industry standard, or at least a parallel one, blender has got me into really good gigs freelance and full time, My current job which is in a tech company that use blender for machine learning and so far the best job I´ve had, with benefits, good pay and remote. Blender is an amazing tool to learn but also learn support softwares or skills to complement it or viceversa learn blender to complement your other tools. And learn more technical stuff, modelers and animators are so overcrowded so many ppl does those things, learn rigging, procedural tools, python and so on.
Yea also AI make it more thinner in this industry.
When you say blender is free, you are correct and incorrect. Blender is free because some users decide to donate.
the large part of the userbase falls under the 2% of the money Blender Foundation did profit from. The largest sum of money (49%) came from their "sponsors" which are certain companies including Volkswagen followed by corporate donators and funders as well as some diamond badge donators.
Blender is not free it's open source.

I am currently using rhino for my architectural needs, but whenever I try to add max or blender on my arsenal I get super confused. Industry standard or larger community with more creativity!

If you're doing arch viz professionally
3ds max is an industry standard for the niche but it comes with a cost of monthly subscription
But if you're starter in arch viz Blender can be a way to go software plug many benefits like great community support ,many plug-ins many courses many tutorials and frequency in updates

what this economy is ultimately doing for sustainability is most important. i mean what is the intrinsic value of blender 3d.
Blender had a big influx because of generative AI.
GenAI is difficult to control and blender gives that extra layer that G-AI just doesn’t have as of yet.
Not to mention, Blender is far easier to use than comfyui.
Is blender was not free but have a normal price that will help. Blender have a paid addons sooo its not realy free
You don't need to buy addons if you don't want. Most addons are just a faster tool/workflow for blender but not new things. You can also develop your own addons if needed.
