I just returned from a trip where I had a checked bag, a usual carry-on roller bag, and backpack for 5-day trip. Definitely over packed and had several article of clothing that didn't use yet was heading to where it was cold. Thailand sounds super nice! Thanks for the tips as would have done the whole bug spray and medicine/probiotics.

For anyone watching, the cheap sunglasses can be dangerous. You need polarized lenses to avoid UV damage, but often cheap sunglasses are just dark plastic, which the open your iris even wider, increasing UV damage. Always get certified polarized lenses!

Bring plenty of cash or as much as you are allowed, for Canada its 10,000 in cash although I would avoid the max amount.
Next, bring a carry on suitcase, avoid big cases, bring several pairs of underwear, socks, few pairs of shorts and short sleeve shirts, shaving gear and whatever toilet accessories you prefer. Keep in mind, you will probably buy a large suitcase and more than enough stuff to fill it when you leave on your return trip home. There are shops you can walk in pay a few baht to use a computer, no need to bring a laptop or any electronics unless you have to. Go to a bank, open a bank account and put your cash in, get a bank withdrawal card and use it while you travel around Thailand. Many places will not accept credit cards, DO NOT use ATM's as they eat cards and you are stuck without one. Go to a bank and use over the counter withdrawals only.

@@pathao9719 I think he means a foreigner can go to a bank and the bank will handle the exchange. If he would like to have 8,000 BHT, the bank can charge his Canadian credit card (for a fee) and he will get his BHT. He can pay the credit card off once he is home.

This is the best what to and not to pack video I've seen. However, there are a few things people should know. Cheap clothes often bleed a lot in the wash. Cheap sunglasses often have defects, so examine them carefully. And most important is, NEVER surrender your passport to a hotel or bike rental or any other business. NEVER! Allow them to make a copy or provide them with a copy, but NEVER let them hold your passport! They may put up a fight, but ultimately they know you can refuse. This is a common way to steal passports, so don't take that risk. Also, if you have a smart phone you can keep photos of your picture page and visa stamps on it. This will be fine for most things, if you have the passport back in your hotel room safe.

I’m a physician. I was just in Thailand for the 21st time in the past 14 years. Huge advice to all….buy travelers insurance. The private hospitals are good. The public, not so much. My friend was in a motorbike accident, spent 6 days in a public hospital (he did not have insurance). Horrible experience and care. I literally ran his care in consultation with his doctor. If I was not there, my friend had would have had major issues. Also…totally agree with the motor bike rental stuff. DONT ever leave your passport, leave cash deposit. If they say they won’t take cash deposit, go to another motorbike place. Also, you definitely need an international drivers license. And always wear your helmet. They won’t ticket Thais but foreigners will get ticketed.

Yes, agreed... Been there a couple times, both times swore I would travel lighter NEXT time.
I'm coming back again next month, not even going to have a checked bag. Will buy whatever clothes and supplies I need when I get there.
In my carry-on bag, the qualifier is absolute necessity AND uncertainty that I can't just get it at an open market or 7/11 upon arrival. Really, that doesn't leave much.
Besides, it's good to help out the local merchants.
If you want to bring stuff BACK in a checked bag, you can usually find good quality luggage THERE for less than you would pay in the U.S.

I wish I listened to your video before I travelled. I took a charger for a motorized wheelchair which was 110 volts and I plugged it in the wall when I arrived in Thailand. Immediately my charger went up in smoke. I was able to take it to an electronic store and they fixed it for a total of 750 bhat

    Few problems with this video:
Don't buy cheap sunglasses. Ever. They provide little to no UV protection.
You *DO NOT* need an international drivers licence in Thailand, no matter what anybody tells you. So long as your licence is in English, has a photo and your country is a signatory of the 1949 UN traffic act, which most are, then you are good to go.
*NEVER* leave your passport with a rental agency or a hotel. If there is a problem they have got you by the balls and not only that but it's completely illegal not to have your passport on your person at all times as a tourist. Demand that they accept a copy or walk away and find another business.
