12 hit songs and their original samples PART 4
Vložit
- čas přidán 9. 09. 2015
- A collection of hit songs which have sampled songs of previous eras or different genres. For this part (4), I have focused on the 90s.
And actually there are 13 songs here, sometimes I don't count well. - Hudba
Mambo No. 5 sampled Mambo No. 5....
What is life
disappointment kid "Whatta Man sampled "What A Man".
It’s like how Cardi B sampled her own song
Your Woman sampled My Woman.
AnonymousSkittle 22 really? Lol.
The better question is what is love? Baby, don't hurt me.
These videos are like pringles once You pop you can’t stop
or drugs
Actually eating pringles rn 😂
More like once you play you'll have to stay
Exactly
More like once you shop you can’t stop
i must admit this is a fun way to discover music i never heard of. :)
truth
lol
Agreed.
I’m here for the same reason
I agree! I saved this into a playlist in case I want new music
Lew Stone - My Woman
White Town - Your Woman
Soviet Russia - OUR WOMAN
Dua Lipa - Love Again
Finally enough, white town is a marxist.
Lol
@@daishoryujin95 Yep. He even references it in the lyrics.
@@daishoryujin95 eww
"My Woman"
"Your Woman"
that is simultaneously the stupidest and cleverest thing ever
then wiley and emelie sande made it into a song called 'Never Be Your Woman'
oh
no
My woman kinda sound like the imperial march lmao
What if the cycle continued and somebody made a song sampling both called "Our Woman"?
*Soviet National Anthem intensifies*
my woman sounded like the imperial march
I thought that too.
He even looks like Tarkin.
Ive seen you somewhere
Vintage Fire
HELL ??
Well, My Woman was released before George Lucas was even born, so I'd say the Imperial March sounds like My Woman, not vice versa.
To this day Vanilla Ice denies sampling Bowie and whenever I'm reminded of that I get unnecessarily upset
maybe because it isnt true -he first said it because ,if he would admit it ,he has to pay ,which he eventually had to ,when taken to court ,but since then he never went on insiting he didnt sample it
theres an episode of American Dad where Steve mentioned Vanilla Ice taking 'Ice Ice Baby' from Queen's Under pressure making Snot say that Vanilla Ice turned it into something better.
The bass-line was inspired by Good Times by Chic, but I’m pretty sure that was credited or at least made known that. Then Vanilla Ice sampled Queen and David Bowie
Stevie Nicks actually appears in the Bootylicious video playing a guitar
MrMulrine83
Stevie nicks even gets a writing credit.
I didn't know Stevie nicks played guitar
Lol
It's amazing you sync it so well
Vanilla Ice actually was sued by David Bowie and Queen as he claimed it was not a sample of the song...
Caiden Vail he said one note made it completely different. Everyone called bullshit.
Back in the 80s and 90s, a lot of people sampled without permission. It was only in the early 90s, I think, when it was made illegal to sample without permission
I know this is an old comment, but to add onto it for future readers, Ice’s lawyers decided that instead of fighting the suit, it was cheaper and easier to just buy the rights to the original. He did and now makes money whenever it’s played on the radio, media, or when it’s streamed
Wait wtf
What a douche
3:53 the original crab rave
Indian Mapper i was about to write that
Indian Mapper 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀OBAMA IS GONE🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀
(Hears 'Under Pressure')
*straight to the comments section.
Interviewer:so shaggy did you steal the war song “smile happy”?
Shaggy:it wasn’t me
1:35
Sounded a little like Darth Vader's theme to me, honestly.
Imperial march?
Yeah I totally hear it
It's in another more recent song too I'm trying to remember the name
Nibba 007 Me too, let me know if you got it, it’s driving me crazy
Marcel Thunderstorm Same, I have no idea what it is but it sounds so familiar. First thought was maybe a Madlib-produced song.
I like how they took the sample from My Woman and turned it into Your Woman, as in "I can never be your woman"
"My Woman is not your Woman"
Fuki Makai I assume that you are a homosexual then
No way!
That was only a title joke and was no related with homosexuality
Fuki Makai There is absolutely nothing wrong with being homosexual sexual, bisexual, transexual and pansexual
I didn't know "Mambo Number 5" was a full on cover! WOW!
St3vEn BaDu it's not a cover because the newer version had a new beat on it. sampled ;)
HOW can you say it's not a cover though when it obviously WAS?! Fair enough Mambo No5 from 1999 had a stronger beat throughout it and Lou Bega sang his own lyrics but everything else is THE SAME! Let's agree on that at least!
St3vEn BaDu it’s a sample, not a cover
@@themanwithnoname2183 Its a cover version that used a sample from the original.
@@PaGaNism So it's a sample even if you hire a whole new brass section to play the song from the sheet music? the only thing "sampled" was the sheet music... mate that's a cover.
“Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” never sounded so dark and ominous
I forgot how dope that Shaggy track was...
So many artists have sampled "Funky Worm" by Ohio Players, especially NWA.
I wonder if the under pressure sample is legit
"Wicked" by Korn
GTA San Andreas
Under Pressure wasn't sampled by Vanilla Ice, Vanilla stole it
HockeyCrab lmaoooooooooooo
HockeyCrab his stupid ass tried to act like it wasn't. "It's that little ting that makes it different." He said that in an interview waaay back. Then sure as shit, he still got fined...😂
Vanilla Ice disagrees. There's an extra dum in the dum dum dum dum dum dum dum. it's different yo!
@XDranzer000 Not exactly, he used to claim at first that he invented the thing and that Queen stole it
@@ThatMindfields Lmaoo Vanilla Ice doesn't know time apparently. That was 1982 when Under Pressure was out 😂😂😂
My woman (lew stone) = Love again (dua lipa)
this is a great series of video , wish you make part 5 soon ! wish you all the best .
+Hai Carl me too
+"MC" Walter I want a part five
David Jimmerson IKR????
+Hai Carl PART 5 uploaded czcams.com/video/YtUbjJaIzGI/video.html
+Michael Tan what about 6 & 7
Vanilla Ice... "back with my brand new invention" as he's stealing someone else's music LMAO
Jario
It’s not a sample. He didn’t get permission for it.
I was just thinking that
Truly, the Thomas Edison of music
Give It Up by The Goodmen was also sampled on "Monkey Say Monkey Do" by TX Productions
Sampling is ART
And now “China” by Anuel is sampled by 0:10
funky worm into jump was the coldest ever
Smack my bitch up????? I thought they said "take my picture" this whole time!
Nice self censorship, though!
"Change my pitch up, smack my bitch up" :)
Ohio Players - Funky Worm had me like: GTA SA!!!!!!!!
34103070674978532046 same
34103070674978532046 that's first thought I had 😌👌
DOPEMAN DOPEMAN!!!!
lol same
34103070674978532046 well it's the same era jump came out the same year dre officialy left ruthless and nwa
Lew Stone - My Woman
Dua Lipa - Love Again
If you're gonna mention "the edge of seventeen" you should also mention where Stevie Nicks got that from which is "Bring on the night" by the Police. Nicks even got Andy Summers to teach her how to play that song.
The "My Woman" sample was used in Dua Lipa's "Love Again" too.
0:01 was lit
The “your women” sample is incredible
Ice Ice Baby is not a sample it's a blatant steal, changing a SINGLE note in the bass rift and calling it your own is not a sample, he got fined accordingly.
Correction: He paid royalties to avoid a lawsuit, still not a sample.
Kuroda Kazuki just one chord
It's still not a sample, he blatantly stole it and Queen + David Bowie took action against him.
A sample is where an artist has permission to use a piece of another artists song. Vanilla Ice did NOT have permission.
And changing a chord does not make it your own.
2:13 THAT SHIT HIT ME LIKE A BOMB!
I just recently informed my girlfriend that Under Pressure was sampled by Vanilla Ice. That fact completely blew her mind.
DayHeights wasn't sampled. stolen. Ice changed a single note in the bass riff.
Kennilarsen1 If he stole it, it would have been the same song. Lyrics, bassline, and all!
DayHeights he got fined for it.
DayHeights he lost lawsuit. And in the lawsuit it said he blatantly stole it.
She sounds too young tbh
Under pressure/ice ice baby has been the only pair where I enjoyed-let alone knew of the EXISTENCE-of both songs already lmao.
That's because of how transparent the sampling is and how famous every artist involved in the two songs are.
Funky Worm was sampled in Dopeman by NWA as well.
and DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince in Boom Shake The Room
Funky worm is everywhere.
Funky Worm has been sampled by every rap hit back in the day
3:28 Pretty much the most iconic example of sampling in music
It's actually just Theft
@@Matter655 Still a good song asshole.
@@giancarlofelicianocastaned9316 when did I say It isn't a good song asshole^2
I think he stole it
And probably the dumbest reasoning for it, “It’s one extra note so it’s fine”. This is why Queen is more beloved than Vanilla Ice, they wrote their own songs lol
I was seriously worried you were about to fade "Edge of Seventeen" into "Eye of the Tiger" there.
I've seen a few vids similar to this but these oh so smooth transitions from sample to song are just top notch. Bravo!
Vanilla ice still saying he didn’t sample under pressure 😂
damn that lew stone sounds really star wars.
I love the transition from the original to the sampled songs!
the prodigy one....oh noooo
So happy to see my all time favourite Al Bowlly in this! Although he didn’t get a mention he was the vocalist on Lew Stone’s “My Woman”
2:51 STEVIE NICKS QUEEN I LOVE HER also fun fact she's in the vid for bootylicious
oh sorry i just realised someone already said this
also the guitar riff from Stevie Nicks's song sounds so similar to *"Bring On The Night"* by The Police + Miley Cyrus also sampled Stevie Nicks's song
You know al these years when I hear Shaggy "It Wasn't Me" I said to myself I heard that melody before but where and now seeing the sample I went oh O.K. I heard it before when I was a kid when my older cousin played this War album, the producer used a deep cut. Cleaver.
Oh yeah don't forget Kris Kross also sampled the piano riff of The Jackson 5's "I Want You Back" also.
That Prodigy sample always blew my mind
The transition into shaggy was top tier
I'm only 13 but 1982 and the 1960s have some of my favorite songs. I really do think I had a past life!
LOVE this! Thank you so much for putting these together. Very intelligent and informative!
Rick James 'Superfreak' - MC Hammer 'can't touch this'
Hoagy Carmichael 'Heart and Soul' - Train 'play that song'
Blur 'song 2' - Kesha and Big Time Rush 'Windows down'
Idle Teen I believe the first one was in the first one
Thanks for all your works.
Tom Tom Club - "Genius of Love" reminds me of Don't Hug Me I'm Scared.
Came here via x fm Chris Moyles show, Cheers Chris but most of all thanks to Michael for these superb videos
I always thought "Your Woman" had a kind of 30's vibe to it. Now I know why! Thank you for letting me know.
Your research and work on these videos is PHENOMENAL
Keep doing these please
2:23 Slinds like Gin and Juice from Snoop dogf and Dr Dre
FINALLY they did Genius of Love and Fantasy!
*Genius Of Love* also got sampled in *Return Of The Mack* by Mark Morrison
love these so much, keep it up.
"Smack My Bitch Up" also contains a vocal sample from the Ultramagnetic MC's "Give the Drummer Some".
NWA also sampled Funky Worm in the song Dopeman
So did The Game in California Vacation
Those transitions are so perfect
What I’m learning is find old records, either from relatives or thrift shops, then play them either fast or slow until you hear a backing track you can borrow and throw another beat on top of, then boom.
This channel de-mystifies my 90s and early 2000's :-) I really didn't know that so much of the smash titles of this time were totally based on old samples. I know they sampled a lot, but really, some of these tracks couldn't ever exist without the originals.
These are really good and well put together.
Such a great music from 60' - 80' and people still need to sample it. But Robbie Williams and Fatboy Slim tho.
When "He'll roll your burdens away" I just knew it was sampled by Moby
At the end of Edge of Seventeen, I was expecting it to transition in to the beginning of the Eye of the Tiger
“Ice is back with my *brand new invention* ” [One ugly lawsuit later…]
i love you for doing this
3:48 Mr. Scruff ninja tuna?
OMG Fantasy is probably the best song ever created using a sample !!! :) No offense to the others but Fantasy kills it
My Woman is also the sample for Love Again from Dua Lipa
you don't have to read my mind
what the prodigy did was genius
Goes from my woman to your woman...ok that’s just too perfect
trop cool ce concept ça permet de découvrir de nouveaux artistes
Return Of The Mack also sampled Genius Of Love.
Wow! Mambo No.5 sampled Mambo No.5!
OMG MARIAH YAAAAAAASSS
I love the way that this is edited
yoooo that first transition was soooooo *good*
Great series!
China (Anuel AA)
It wasnt me (Shaggy)
Ice ice baby is one of those songs you get a group of 30 people to all dance with you without any type of chemistry
I LOVE that beat throughout 'Give It Up' by The GoodMen!! It reminds me of carnivals and congas in Rio De Janeiro. TIMELESS!!
Bellini - Samba De Jeneiro
Bellini - Samba Do Brasil
That’s because Give it Up was a sample of Magalenha by Sérgio Mendes
White Town's Your Woman! I read in an interview that he'd heard the Lew Stone track on the Pennies From Heaven series; Dennis Potter had a great ear for using existing songs.
I’m so happy u put white town in
1:33 sounds like Imperial March and the guy looks like Grand Moff Tarkin
Thats what I thought
usually i like sampling but vanilla ice sampling under pressure always pisses me off cause in my opinion under pressure is so much better than ice ice baby and i get pissed whenever i hear the hook on the radio because its never under pressure
Cloud King he changed one chord
perfect compilation keep it up
It might also be worth mentioning that the Kris Kross song also sampled I Want You Back by the Jackson 5 and as has been mentioned below, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince also sampled Funky Worm. Great series by the way.
War -"Smile Happy" that song summed up my childhood 😁
Missed the Barkays famous 1970 Sang And Dance (Will Smith) - -- all of these presentations are fascinating and historical and fun and great listening - CHEERS- DAVEDJ
Thank god you played the Lou Bega one at 1:57 I would never have figured out which song used the sample 😂
the prodigy one is mindblowing
I bought that Locksmith album when it came out, but I didn't recognise Basement Jaxx had sampled Far Beyond, until I saw this video,
