to my absolute shock, The Road to Wellville's depiction of Dr. Kellogg is FRIGHTENINGLY ACCURATE.

also what better way to expose a majority of Dr. Kellogg's ideas as cult-like than to play the whole thing like a sex comedy gone the way of Joe Dante? painting him as serious would undercut the intended message - it would really only work during his 1910s-1940s advocacy for eugenics and that's IF the film limited itself to that period. however, by setting the film during the creation of the cereal industry in Battle Creek and the fallout of Dr. Kellogg's deteriorating relationship with his brother Will (the Kellogg that makes the cereal), not only can you hint at the eugenics thing without it overpowering the rest of the film (note how he tends to treat only rich people or those who just need a bit of a break/diet; him trying to turn wild carnivores into vegetarians; his very cold treatment of his children, in particular George; him ranting at his DEAD FRIEND OUTSIDE OF THE SANITARIUM MAIN ENTRANCE - those, alongside the constant signs talking about eating right and shitting a lot and sentencing poor Will to many an enema, are telltale signs that Dr. Kellogg might be legitimately fucked in the head and might have some more nefarious beliefs under the surface) but you can showcase just how insane Dr. Kellogg was in his pursuit of natural living (his increasingly dangerous inventions; the fact that his followers defect to Dr. Badger because the dude's into free love and proto-feminism; the fact that he actually doesn't do shit to better Will's alcoholism and heroin addiction other than yogurt enemas and removing part of the small intestine as punishment).

Because he WAS a nut? LOL
It's a comedy, so yeah some exaggeration was given (although, anyone who advocates yogurt enemas is not what I would call normal! LOL)

have you actually read his work? his lectures? his theories? he sounded like that.
now in fairness a lot of the writing ans speech form that time period sounded very over done to us, but seriously the guy was even at the time viewed as a nutter.
he had a few very good points, but the rest of his theory was uh.. well into tinfoil hat land
