Dariush is one of my favorite people. You can tell he is genuine and caring. As far as perfume reviewers go, it is my opinion that he is the best. I watch his live CZcams broadcasts when possible, but if I miss them live I always watch them later. Many of his videos I have watched more than once. Thank you for doing this interview, Max. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you Dariush for giving us this opportunity to get to know you a little bit better.

One main challenge with the fragrance industry is so many are getting joined with corporations. In a corporation, the end goal is essentially to raise the value for shareholders. That means the fragrance brand that's a part of the conglomerate needs to be adding the most positive value to the company (which means most sales at highest profit margin). It's not the same as a company personally owned by someone who's top value is increasing artistic value to the world. However, it is hard for those small companies to compete, which is why they join these big, publicly held conglomerates. I believe that was the challenge Bulgari faced into joined with LVMH.
Also I think you will notice the longer Amouage goes on from being a traditional Omani owned and run brand, the more mellow and mainstream their products are getting. It goes from being a symbol of artistic accomplishment of Oman (where they are OK making less money on the product as long is it's what the want to produce) to being a cash producer for a corporation. One problem is that a corporation needs their stock to increase every year, so the companies need to keep finding ways to change their line-up to increase profits, or face getting their stock sold. No one wants to hold a stock that doesn't continually grow so it's the nature of the beast. Some of the best art in the world is supported by philanthropists, putting value on the art and not the end profits.

🇧🇷 Explendid, I love it, very out of the box.
I think reformulations come down to intention. If they fragrance can't be what it was intended to be due to changes in ingredients, it's a shame and not worth it because you're not capturing how it was really intended to smell. But if the smell was intentionally changed then it's a good thing, say for artistic reasons like Amouage Black Iris, (which is in some ways a reformulation of the old due to new interpretations). Even though they take the fragrance in a new direction that is not my preference, I can still respect it in terms of reformulation.
