Payton manning was his only real rival. Manning was the ONLY other QB in the AFC who was clicking and film studying as hard as TB12. And it paid off. Once Manning actually got a decent defense , he won several times against the Patriots in the playoffs.
The big ones were 2006 and 2013, and 2015. In 2006, Payton did unto Tom Brady what Brady had done to lots of teams -- he mounted a 3 score comeback in the 4th quarter to win. That AFC championship game was FIRE!
They need that mandatory waiting period, they need time to build a special room only for Tom

I am a bit older and remember watching Joe Montana win those four Super Bowls. I thought, dang, there is never gonna be someone that good like Joe that can win more than four! It is super hard to win a Super Bowl....it really is.

Brady plays a team sport and his success as just as much based on his teammates as his talent.
It helps to be able to sit on the bench and rest while watching your defensive team do their job and he had some great offensive line.
