- Sunrise Cooperative has teamed up with Sayre Helicopter to apply fungicide again this year. Both companies recently held a field day to show the advantages of helicopter application and invited The Ohio Ag Net's Ty Higgins to ride along for the demonstration.

I love the response of the seasoned pilot to your question if he ever gets "sick" of cropdusting and flying helicopters: "Not really! I can't see how" and this big smile on his face!! This is the best job for pilots! Such a great training on the controls, for precision and timing... not to mention these precise landings on the trailer for refilling the tank with the chemicals!! Fantastic!!
In the 70s & early 80s I grew up in Dothan Alabama, a farming county in Alabama...Houston Co, to be exact.
Watching the crops getting dusted reminds me of when I was a young boy.
I used to see planes dusting peanut field or a Watermelon field...I would always get excited watching & my dad would always pull over on the side of the road by a field & we would watch the pilot dust the fields.
Man, this brings back great memories of my childhood & my dad.
My dad was the Greatest Father Ever!!!
I sure do miss him a lot.
Much love from Mobile Alabama.
I was about 12 jears old and Russian helicopter was spraying potato fields walking home from school my mother saied way it takes you so long to get home I say the Ka 26 I watched ! Than it was taken me long long time 1987 the first time in USA on the side of a Bell 47 in Springfield,Mo. in the 🚁 helicopter school I made it ! Bay the way I'm from east Germany at this time Kommunist Country !
@@Novadean1 Huh?
I could tell it was a Bell by listening to the radio. LOL
Great content! Thank you.
Thats one hell of a chopper to spray with! Cool!!
Very cool job!
Very nice! And I love the Bell Ranger.
I see TH-57s all the time never gets old
That is an amazing helicopter. Nice video.
I worked for South Eastern Boll weevil Eradication program here in West TN they had 1. Helicopter spraying & HE freaked me out just watching him spray he did like a swoop&spin sort of pass. He went almost strate up & spin turn & right back into the field like if you wave your hand side to side with an upward motion @ end of the wave
That was awesome saw one of those sprayer helicopters in Celina Ohio out in the country where I live by Vantilburgs farms
Amazing story!
Would have been nice to see the pilot controls during the maneuvering... especially the light-bulb turn.
The aircraft is the Bell 206A Longranger.
It’s interesting to me that they were allowed to ride with the ag plane while it was dispensing chemicals but they can only ride with the ag heli if it’s dispensing water
The FAA doesn’t make sense. They make rules. 😉😂🤣✌️
audio needs fixed, might have been a great video but the mic clipping killed it
Cool.
Any advantages to having a jet ranger compared to say a Robinson? Or is it just a personal preference?
A LongRanger can carry more weight than an R44 and R66
Yes and even it's a Long Ranger Sir
Is bell 407?
Two questions:
1. What is the price? High clearance sprayers go for $400,000-$500,000, if its in that range or less it would be great to own one.
2. Why fly under the power lines when you can just spray alongside them?
It all depends on wind and wire height. My pilot mostly flies next to them as the rotor wash will push the chemical out far.
Looks like an old PHI helicopter.
Yes Sir it's a old Long Ranger / Bell helicopter can lift more than the Jet Ranger !
Long Rangers are lousy spray helicopters. I,ll out work you with a Jet Ranger any day.
Tight flights around edges.
Minds me off fishin
under trees with lures,
stay out the trees!
How many ft r your booms
38 foot boom.
How many gallons of water do you haul
Kevin Christiansen the hopper on these (at least the one I work in) can carry 130 gallons
*140
Pilot says in the video it's a 160 gal. tank.
Very disappointed with the choppy audio, looked very cool however. It does seem like the prop downdraft would be a disadvantage for crop spraying with a chopper vs plane?
looks like a petroleum helicopter paint scheme
How much is your Paycheck sir. 🤗
Would be huge if he sprayed 70,000 acres.
It may seem well but it’s so expensive to operate the helicopter. ESPECIALLY a turbine. My dad flies a Robinson and he is always complaining and he’s not even turbine he’s piston in the 44 and 22
Choppy audio caused by bad headset mikes made this video pretty much unwatchable.
Fix audio.
john griffin cant. It's the doors open and the helicopter blades causing wind interference with on board audio equipment
Yes Sir Bell 47 much more static
U
I want to thumbs up but you are 777....
