Totally agree, its got some special grit in the midrange or something.

Is the Prophet 08 , better sounding than a Minimoog 37 key poly D ? All things being equal price wise etc?

@@Matt-zp1jnobviously. While Behringer stuff does sound good, they don’t sound as good as a DSI/Moog. They just don’t. There’s always some extra oomph missing

My favourite synth, it's in every tune I made and still my go to synth. Only one time I almost sold it to buy a REV2, instead I kept it and bought a REV2 desktop and I use them more then any synth I have and I have a few sequential synths, Pro 2 Pro 3 and Prophet 6, but that filter is so good, It needs some finetuning, but it sounds great. Although I have it for a long time, I still click every video with it to see if I can still find something new.

Would a rev2 or 08 have a better keybed? I might go the same route, choosing one as a desktop module.

@@anonymous_friend For functionality you should buy the REV2, it has some extra options like the shape mod on all waveforms. Build quality the Prophet 08 is much better, it is twice as heavy. For key's a second hand Prophet 08 would be best. It's even build better then the Prophet 6.

I used to have the P08 module as well, and really loved it. I did get rid of it once the Rev 2 was introduced. I bought mine for about 1800 euros new, and prices have only been getting up since. I also owned the Mopho and later the Mopho Keyboard, but since the Rev 2 kinda replaced those, I sold them off as well.
Recently I acquired the Prophet 6, and while it does sound excellent, it simply can't do what the Rev 2 can do. So they both have their place. My Rev 2 still proudly bears the Dave Smith name, so maybe it'll be worth a fortune one day ;)

This synth seemed to get a lot of hate when it was released. People were saying it didn't sound like a Prophet 5, but nobody ever said it did. I bought mine pretty much as soon as it came out (I think about Feb '08) and had it until 2020. Like any synth it had its strengths and weaknesses, but its not a bad synth at all, not by along shot!

I bought one of these earlier this year but had to send it back cuz my hours got cut at work at the time. I since landed a better job, but haven’t been able to find quite a nice deal on one of these. Ended up with a GS07 that I love, but I really miss the modulation options with all the envelopes, LFOs, and mod matrix. I loved using a delayed envelope on the Noise level to make percussive sounds on top of the synth sounds. Was like instant techno.

Is it possible to load and play Tetr4 patches on the 08?

Tetr4 has exactly the same architecture of the 08, with the two layers feature. So, you can load any 08 bank on it and will sound the same...
But... remember that Tetr4 features 2 suboscillators and the feedback loop as an upgrade from the 08, to make it more powerful. Tetr4 lets you export your banks or patches to other DSI synths like Mopho/X4 (losing layer 2) and 08 (in this case, losing the subosc and feedback loop settings, sounding different on the 08)...

I'm currently putting together a modest but thoroughly decent project studio. I'm primarily a guitar/bass/drums/engineer guy but can get around on keys and want to have some toys for ppl to get inspired, write, have fun. Currently I have a Korg OpSix (I love fm synthesis/80's sounds), Korg MS20 mini, Korg Microsynth and Arturia Drum machine (drum brute?) and want to expand. I'm looking at units like the Prophet 08, Novation Peak, Korg Wavestate and Polysix. Any opinions? Other options? I also want a bass syntj and would appreciate opinions. Sub37/25, phatty, novation basstation, Minitaur? Thx, hreat video. Subbed.

I suggest getting different brands instead of sticking to one brand, ive found when playing around on same brands they all sound similar, not the same but similar if that makes sense. For a bass synth if you want in a sense a holy grail of possibly greatest mono synth I would suggest a sequential Pro 3. Moog is Moog, but heard lots of horrible build quality issues on the sub37/25 and its kind of in the realm of doing that one thing whereas the pro 3 does that one thing and more. Lots of options out there for poly synths these days, really just depends what your looking to achieve which sounds like inspiring machines so I would look at things that are simple with lots of knobs to be able to craft on the fly fast like anything sequential, or hydrasynth, could even look at an access virus. Hope that helps I know for certain the pro 3 is next on my list after much research!
