I love this cast on when starting with a 1x1 ribbing! It looks very polished and is totally worth the effort! The more you practice, the easier it gets!
I am knitting the Weekender and struggled with this cast on. Figured I’d share some tips to help those who are also struggling. -start with a purl cast on just as Andrea does -you will end with a knit cast on due to the odd amount of stitches needed -to make counting stitches easier I put a stitch marker after every 10th stitch so that I didn’t have to go back and count the stitches while they were all twisted along the chord -when you turn your work after casting on your stitches you will start with a slip 1 purlwise then knit 1 through the back loop, etc. -don’t worry about straightening out the stitches until they are back on your needle. Trying to straighten them out while they are on the chord is futile, so you’ll just straighten them as you go. Hope this helps anyone!
This is a challenging cast on to teach, and you did a great job Miss M! I appreciated your acknowledgment that the stitches can roll around the needle, and your suggestion to try straight needles to get the hang of it. You also offered both English and Continental versions. You are not only a gifted designer, but a great teacher. Thank you!
This is the best totorial I have come across, and I won’t be looking for any more 😊 Really clear and concise, with a perfect view of the method. Thank you 🤩
At last an easy cast on tutorial demonstrated very well. I could actually do the cast on along with your tutorial as your speed was slow and the close-up is clear. Thank you so much👍🙏
Thank you for this great tutorial! I like that the set-up rounds are worked “flat” rather than immediately joining in the round. That makes it really easy to catch and correct stitches that have rotated around the needle on the first set-up round :)
Andrea! I totally got it! Thanks for your clear instruction! I'm getting ready to cast on the Pink Velvet sweater. You have the best instruction I've seen.
What a great tubular cast on! I've tried several different techniques and this is elegant and very simple, after I got the "over - under rhythm in mud hands.
Excellent tutorial! As a left-handed continental knitter it can be difficult for me to follow tutorials. You explained it so well it was easy for me to translate
Fantastic video!! You explained this so well and eliminated all of my confusion about this cast on, its really not as difficult as I thought:) I especially loved that you mentioned the way that you memorize the difference between how to cast on a purl and a knit! It helped me a lot, thank you so much!:)
I'd been hunting for this cast-on for so long! I knew it was a tubular cast-on of some kind, but all the other tutorials that came up used scrap yarn and yarn overs to add stitches, which wasn't what I remembered learning years ago at all.
I confused myself by watching too many variations of the cast on! Andrea’s is the most straight forward. Why would you bother doing a provisional cast on as well? I’ll be sticking to this one!
This is SO helpful, Andrea! I casted on a hat last night and wanted to do tubular cast on and kept getting the stitches twisted around (was using 16" circular) and ultimately gave up. I didn't realize I could work it on straight needles until all is structured and then move to working in the round. Thank you for this tutorial!! Will definitely use it going forward. :)
Very helpful! Thank you! This is really an easy cast on once you get the hang. It's very elastic and I can see how it will prevent the pooch that happens when a cast on is too snug.
Best tubular cast on Ever!! 👍🏼 I’ve watched so many tutorials that use a waste yarn, YOs & 4 setup rows instead of 2 which made me consider using another CO then I found you!!! Thank you so much 🙏🏼❤️
Thank you so much ~ that was by far the best tutorial I've found. I did it on straight needles and then transferred. This will be my go to tubular cast on now:)
Thank you for demonstrating! I just got your Wool and Honey sweater pattern and thought there would be a slit if I joined what seemed like the 3rd row... not realising the first 2 rows are still part of the foundation row.
I hope I remember this when the time comes…. Sheesh. I like this I tend to cast on all the same then do the oneP and one K. Or two or what ever. This looks so much neater and lovely. Oh by the way I recently subscribed.
Just what I needed and great explanation! I think I can do this now! I'm wondering what's the difference between the Italian tubular cast on and the tubular cast on?
Perhaps this is a silly question, but can I use this cast on method if I'm going to do 1x1 twisted rib instead of just regular 1x1 rib? If so, how would my set up rows differ?
I have a question…can this be done with a 2x2 ribbing? Do each under-over twice before doing the other? Will that work? I’ve not tried it yet, just had the thought hit me! I know a lot of things call for 1x1 ribbing, but I prefer 2x2 and change it whenever possible…thanks! Btw…love your videos!
Hey I’m wondering what needles what circular needles do you love the most I just ordered a pair of mixed Addi’s and they haven’t gotten here yet they’ll get here tomorrow but I am over the moon excited and I just wanted to know what your favorites are?
I am following this exactly for The Weekender. I need to co 99sts. And I do , I count twice. Lol but for some reason I'm ending up with 100 at the end of the first set up row. I've done it twice now. Any tips? And does the slip knot count as a purl or knit st? Thank you!
I found a pattern for a sweater requiring this cast on. My question is, if I have to eyeball the same as for the long-tail; the result is different, in esthetics, or is that the only aim?
I love your patterns but you tubular co is crazy difficult to understand. I made the weekender and now am starting the weekender crew. Will probably try pretty pink instructions for the tubular co

Sooo helpful! Thank you 💐
thank you Kristie!!
This bit of advice is so helpful. Thank you!
Thank you for the help!

Very helpful! Thank you!
I made my first tubular cast on with 222 stitches, with success !
This is the best totorial I have come across, and I won’t be looking for any more 😊 Really clear and concise, with a perfect view of the method. Thank you 🤩
I love your tutorial videos because you also show continental style. It really makes it easier to understand how to do the stitches. Thank you.
At last an easy cast on tutorial demonstrated very well. I could actually do the cast on along with your tutorial as your speed was slow and the close-up is clear. Thank you so much👍🙏
Beautiful and clear instructions, so many knit so fast and expect you to pick up something new at the speed they go. Thank you so much
Thank you, thank you! I come back to this again and again. I really appreciate the clear directions and your easy way of talking.
This is my favorite tubular tutorial ever... so clear wow 🤩 starting a Weekender for a friend today!
Love this tutorial, come back to it over and over for a quick refresher - nicely done!
This is fantastic. Took me a couple of tries, but you did a great job of explaining! Thank you so much!
Thank you for this great tutorial! I like that the set-up rounds are worked “flat” rather than immediately joining in the round. That makes it really easy to catch and correct stitches that have rotated around the needle on the first set-up round :)
I watched a lot of videos and yours was the clearest. It's actually very simple once you get it. Thanks so much !
Thank you Andrea for explaining the tubular cast on so easily
Okay I have not seen this winding to find how long to start with at any time ever… geez.. thanks!
Thank you for showing both knitting styles. Very helpful!
Andrea! I totally got it! Thanks for your clear instruction! I'm getting ready to cast on the Pink Velvet sweater. You have the best instruction I've seen.
What a great tubular cast on!

Thank you for your time and showing this,I really needed to see this, the best one I've seen yet!! 😊
You’re officially my hero 😍 thanks for this dreamy tutorial! So helpful.
Excellent tutorial! As a left-handed continental knitter it can be difficult for me to follow tutorials. You explained it so well it was easy for me to translate
Thank you for the excellent tutorial, makes much more sense now!

The best explanation I’ve seen and was able to follow. Thank you!
Best tutorial for this cast on. Thanks!
Very interesting. Thank you for demonstrating both ways of holding your yarn.
Best tubular cast on Ever!! 👍🏼 I’ve watched so many tutorials that use a waste yarn, YOs & 4 setup rows instead of 2 which made me consider using another CO then I found you!!! Thank you so much 🙏🏼❤️
I’ve just completed this journey myself! This is the simplest of all the tubular cast ones I’ve found.
Thank you! Very well explained! And quite easy to do, once you get the hang of it ♥
Thanks for the tutorial! I learned something new today...time to start my weekender. 😊
3 attempts yesterday, but 🥳 hurray it worked out perfectly this morning. Thank you for this clear explanation and video 👌♥️
Great job explaining this, just the right camera angles to view
Oh. My. Gosh!!! This tutorial was sanity saving. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Thanks for including the links in your patterns!
Great tutorial. Thanks so much Andrea😊

yes I tried it and I love it . THANK YOU 💚🌏💚 Katja

Thank you for the tip for purl and knit way of looking at it, it made casting on suddenly easy. Kind wishes to you and yours 🍀
So happy you found it helpful!
Y.i.b you made that very simple. I’ll use your video to learn this. Thank you
Thank you! You made this so simple. I'm making a hat in the round, and wanted to learn this method, as the recipient doesn't like ribbing.
Very nice! Haven't used this cast on....YET!
You make it look so easy.
Very well explained. Thank you!
Thank you!!
Perfect, thank you!
Merci merci beaucoup 😍😍 It's very easy with you 😍😍 thank you very much 😀

you are an excellent teacher .... thank you so much....
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Thank You!
Just what I needed and great explanation! I think I can do this now! I'm wondering what's the difference between the Italian tubular cast on and the tubular cast on?
If you go under (on the thumb) for the purl stitch, your stitch won’t be mounted incorrectly and you won’t need to knit through the back loop.
Once this clicks it like magic ❤️
Thanks! Now casting on for the #16weeksofweekender kal!
Is the slip knot at the beginning counted as a stitch?
Thanks for this tutorial. Can this CO be modified for 3X2 ribbing?
Thank you
I have tried it several times but still do not get it

How does this work when casting on an odd number of stitches?
can this method be used to cast on when you need to join for working in the round?
This is the "long tail tubular cast on" you use for Wool & Honey sweater, right?
How does this work with a sock cast on top down? Is it stretchy enough?
Love it!
What needles are you using? They look like they have a longer taper. Also, working on the Golden hour right now and I can't put it down!
Chiaogoo interchangeables! They are my faves ;) I hope you love your Golden Hour!
would like to knit a hat in the round with no ribbing. Is it possible to do a tubular caston for this? Any ideas, anyone?
I am following this exactly for The Weekender. I need to co 99sts. And I do , I count twice. Lol but for some reason I'm ending up with 100 at the end of the first set up row. I've done it twice now. Any tips? And does the slip knot count as a purl or knit st?
Thank you!
This is because you are not counting an extra stitch (the one you most likely started with). It's called the inclusive #.
So is the first slip knot a purl or a knit?
It’s a knit. Sorry for late reply 😅❤
On the second set up row you knit through the front, not through the back as in the first set up row.
I found a pattern for a sweater requiring this cast on. My question is, if I have to eyeball the same as for the long-tail; the result is different, in esthetics, or is that the only aim?
If you are not coordinated, scrap yarn method is your friend!!!!
I love your patterns but you tubular co is crazy difficult to understand. I made the weekender and now am starting the weekender crew. Will probably try pretty pink instructions for the tubular co
