Before I ordered this exact camcorder, I've spent about 3 days looking for this type of video. It's incredible how such rare & valuable information can be, and when you find it, it's a beautiful moment! I followed the instructions and I couldn't be happier, thank you so much!
A big thanks to you sir! -- I have successfully changed my Australian VX1 to NTSC and got rid of the com message easy as pie!. Also it is my belief that anyone will be able to do this and that it will not be changed in any firmware update as this is service menu settings and Panasonic literally has zero reason to mess with the settings or lock settings out per region , not to mention I just bought this camcorder and changing to NTSC worked flawlessly.
Panasonic couldn't help me with this, but this video solved it for me, thank you. There was no mention of what "COM" means in any of their manuals, both the advanced and the basic manuals had no information. Turns out I just needed to clear the COM message.
thanks for this hack I live in Australia running on 50hz so when filming under light i get flicker but it doesn't matter because i mostly film day time and extra 5 frames in 4 k will give me a better picture .i can always change if i plan to do night time filming cheers
@@nordfieldlive8875 This is actually the reason I'm going to buy this camera and not the Sony AX53! 25p vs 30p is quite a difference. 4k 30p in a small and powerful zoom package. Looking forward getting the camera. Thanks for sharing, great!
Thanks. Getting rid of the COM message was something that's been really bothering me. I managed to do it by chance a couple of times but could never figure out what I did to clear it!
Why so difficult? Why not in menu like in camerad since ages? And why do they still use interlaced mode? What is it for? Is it any good? There should be some fps and compression options to choose, but not from interlaced video.
Hello! Thank you a lot for the video - it was exactly what I was looking for! But please can you help me? It seems that I pressed something wrong while doing this and now I have a message "TEST LOW" and a big black rectangle with "E01 PC CONNECT" all over my screen. I've tested the cam and it can still record, but I cannot get this message to go away even after I turn off and on. Please help!!!! I'm desperate!
I tried this on my VXF990 by guessing how to transcribe the VXF1 buttons to the VXF990 and it worked first time. Exactly the same menu appears as on the VXF1. So. Hold WIDE + Playback + HDR and then hold the Power On button until you see the service menu. Once you see the service menu the instructions are identical to that shown on this video.
Thank you for this! The camcorder in NTSC seems to have a bit better picture quality, like more crisp and fluid, and most importantly the PAL's atrocious rolling shutter seems also a bit improved. Cheers!
@@MrDogtown22 it is 29.97 frames per second, to be precise. basically it is 30 frames and like i said, works better than 25 frames per second. that's it.
Thanks for this video! Does this blinking "com" appear every time something is changed in the service menu ? How did you figure out how to get rid of it ?
Hi . yes, it appears every time you enter service menu. I watched video for another panasonic camera v770 and there was how to remove COM message so I did the same thing
Actually changing PAL to NTSC is for service maintenance, not for users, so there's nothing about Service Menu in manual. COM is service message, some mode for USB control, I don't know. After changing standart SD always need to be formatted, otherwise it won't work.
Hello thanks for your video could you tell me if you buy it in Ntsc or in pal ? The first go ? And did you know if the HDMI is on when you record in 4k resolution ? The hdmi output stay on when you push record ? Thanks
The HDMI feed stops when you press record. I am pretty sure its a hardware limitation of the camera. It would have been nice to be able to do both. For my live usage I can simultaneously record on the capture device so its not so bad for my planned usage scenario.
Hi Norfield live I followed your procedure and everything went as shown in the video, but the frame rates in 4K and Full HD are exactly the same as before. I really put the camera on ntsc. I put it back to pal and then back to ntsc but without result. Any idea why. I bought the camera in the Netherlands, the type is hc-vxf1eg. I suspect that Panasonic has provided this camera with a different firmware that does not accept this setting.
I have the same problem as you, Anton, in that under RECORD MODE it still says "1080p at 50fps". However, I made a test video and transferred it to my PC where it says the video is 1080p at 59.94 fps - as near to 60 fps as I'm going to get, I guess :) I haven't tested 4K, or 1080p at 30 fps yet but I'm pretty sure they're going to be OK, too (famous last words!)
Because some old non-LED lights tend to flicker with 50Hz in regions where the electrical grid uses 50Hz. However this has gotten rather rare in the last few years, because old light-bulbs cause high electricity bills, and thus mostly got replaced. Meanwhile, every TV and projector and similar is 60Hz, which is much more common to encounter than old light bulbs, so you definitely want to record in 30 or 60fps nowadays.

Thanks. The setting shown in the video also works on the VX980 series. :)

Great video!
Can I change the shutter speed to 1/50 in NTSC mode?
Does this reduce video quality?
Any way to stop light flickering after going from PAL to NTSC..?
Big thanks, very useful info.
Absolutely amazing thanks so much!

Have you encountered any problems since doing this. I want one of these cameras but need it to film at 4k 30fps

@danbilotto7785 OK cool. So it allows you to film at 4k 30fps??

I have no idea why we are still.using the pal standard in a world of CZcams and Netflix. All modern tvs can handle both.
