- OK folks, this is an unexpected TiHYDP video I have made to close the gap of uploads before the upcoming TiHYDP remake of Crash 3 is out.
When the Genesis (aka Mega Drive) Mini was released, Phil played various games on it, two of them being the first 2 Sonic the Hedgehog games which Phil did full playthroughs on as opposed to just one off showcases and after the previous train wrecks of previous Sonic playthroughs the Manchild Pigroach had in the past, will this be redemption or still the same old song and dance? The self proclaimed "King of Retro" Doesn't even know that the genesis volume switch was only for your headphones at the time. This was a pretty good idea at the time just in case parents didn't want to hear their kids game. They discontinued headphone support for the 2nd and 3rd models. So once again just proving that this guy has no idea what the hell he is talking about.
It was also the only way to get stereo audio out of the model 1 as the AV jack on the rear only output mono. Many of the AV cables for sale today use the headphone jack for audio because of this.
Nintendo did it earlier with the NES too, although I think it was a third party accesory

1. That face camera of his is still in a shitty spot. Seriously the upper left next to score/time/rings would have been the perfect spot.
2. "I've mastered this game." If you mastered the game then that means you could come back to it at any point and crush it, which is obviously something he does not do.
3. How does this guy still find the jank Tails A.I. funny? I got over that day one of playing.
4. 40:10 he wont wear that, but dressed up as Yoshi for Halloween.
5. He blames tails for failing the Chaos Emerald mission. You can play the game with just Sonic so once again only himself to blame.

7. In mystic cave when he uses his rings to fail the bonus stage he should have known better than to jump into it in the first place. Now he has no rings to fight the boss. Yet earlier he also said he mastered the game. A master would have no problem fighting the boss with no rings OR a master would know to hold onto their rings instead of using them on a bonus. (Also a master wouldn't fail the bonus)
8. 49:50 That's not a screw thats a nut. Not that I would expect Phil to know the name of that anyway. Only real men with real jobs know what that is.
9. 56:46 Why is he so desperate to get an extra life? All he does is save scum through. If the run were legit I would understand, but it isn't so who care?

Watching Phil fail at Sonic 1 and 2 was fun and the insults from Dr. Robotnik were the icing on the cake! X3
Also, Phil better watch what he says about Tails, otherwise he might have to go collect the Super Emeralds and unleash his "Flicky Army of Death" on him!
Oh, and one more thing, there is another way to beat the Death Egg Robot that Phil didn't know about. You can actually attack the robot from behind, but you need to have precise aim since you'll need to hit the robot's booster pack without touching the flame it emits. This is how I've fought against the Death Egg Robot when I've played Sonic 2.

I wouldn't have believed him stating to have played these games a bunch if he didn't know about the hidden shortcuts in these levels (because of course that's the only thing that would stick with him). There's just no way somebody claiming to have mastered these games in the past could possibly play this badly. I went back to replaying Sonic 2 for the first time in years and still managed to run circles around DPS's playthrough, including collecting all the Emeralds in the first level. Imagine needing to use save states if these games were a part of your childhood.

It's not normal to just shut off like that. Maybe that day his Gin and KFC bucket was a little bit too much for him

Honesty I have no problem with the save scumming, I see it personally as a way of trying to learn from your mess ups when I do it. I can see why you have an issue with Phil doing it though.
It's best if he does it when he's not streaming/recording it on CZcams because it's very unprofessional. And this game isn't really that hard to do the save state abuse. I only recommend abusing the save state when there's a challenge that is stupidly hard.
If you’re playing by yourself, then by all means, save scum. If you’re playing for an audience, I wouldn’t recommend it, as some people will get bored of watching you load states constantly. If you call yourself “The King of Retro” ESPECIALLY don’t do it for an audience, otherwise you’re setting yourself up for ridicule.

@15:16 I think you should've made a comment there that DSP should not touch the spikes while Sonic is in his temporary invincibility frames after getting hit as the game ignores it due to a glitch.

What do you think of the Genesis Sonic games what's your favorite one? For me I would say Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Since they were the beginning of Sonic's adventures, I'd say they were successful in making the Genesis compete with the Super Nintendo. And yes, I agree that Sonic 3 & Knuckles (alongside Sonic Mania) is the best and it's my favourite of the 2D era. =)

I’ve learned watching these that if it’s not some cheap Hack & Slash that requires nothing more than mashing constantly he absolutely sucks and blames everything on the game.
The volume adjustment was for the headphone jack, not the tv sound.

Btw when I was on the Labyrinth Boss for the first time, I actually beat it without losing a life on my first try. It's not that hard. You cannot be too fast because there's statues shooting fireballs and there's spears that attempt to impale you. You can't be too slow either because of the rising water, as Sonic can only hold his breath for 30 seconds before he drowns.
I dont blame him too much, i used Save States when i had Sonic 1 on Xbox 360, the game is massively brutal. Still had me laughing though with this video!
Then again, if its your first time playing Sonic 1, doing the legit way can be challenging, so an incorporation of Save States and Unlimited Continues is fair game. Hell, in various ports of Sonic 1, there still exists No Save Modes where you can play it the old school way.
In Phil’s case, he’s a pro streamer and played tons of Sonic games/video games entirely. To see him use save states to cheat his way through is cheap as it serves no better alternatives. I’d only accept somebody using save states if they need a quick save so they can stop and return to it later
@@cloudshines812 I have played games again. And even then Sonic 2 special stages is a massive pain to do. I do like Sonic 1 and 3 special stages because i feel its more fair if you lose there. But Sonic 2 you kinda have to keep the special stages memorized to get good at it, where in Sonic 1 and 3 it felt more like it could be blamed for lack of skills. Since in Sonic 2 thats the only way to know where the rings will be to get them. And Tails do kinda sabotage that part, though its possible you just have to simply know where the obstacles are and jump or dodge slightly before it happens with Tails. Tails is kinda helpful too interms of running around you can collect rings with Sonic and Tails. But i consider Sonic 1 and 3 more my cup of tea, despite i understand alot of people do like Sonic 2. Just for me i have been more a Sonic 1 and 3 kinda guy. Mostly Sonic 3 because of more characters. But Sonic 2 first stage does have alot of charm to it. Not to mention probably hardest final boss in any Sonic game
So called master of this games,has trouble defeating a boss without rings.I‘m surprised he doesn’t use debug mode(but I doubt he even knows what that is).
That would require him to enter a code to activate the debug mode. Problem is, we can tell if it's been activated and if he did so, no amount of excuses will deter our accusations of cheating! But other than that, yeah, he probably doesn't know what that is!

Hey not sure if you are too familiar with this game, but I tossed in a few comments that would
have been great for the video. Add them in or just read them here. This is for Sonic 1:
1. Immediately starts the first game and starts singing right away.
2. Says he wont sing through the whole game, THAT WAS A LIE.
3. Constantly interrupts game to look at stream chat. Gotta go slow DooD!

7. Pretty sure the slowdown when you get hit and lose rings is NOT intentional. Just too many characters on screen at once would slow any game down back in those days.
8. The chaos emerald stages are not randomized. If you fail it just goes to the next
emerald stage when you jump in a big ring, and keeps looping incomplete stages.
9. He says there's not many checkpoints in Sonic. There's more than enough for that type of game.

This game has a very easy code you can input to go to level select. However instead of just redoing them for the sake of his YT viewership and consistency he just takes the lazy way out.
15. In scrap brain zone Phil encounters a pig enemy and doesn't know what it is...despite the fact it looks just like him!
16. Why would he quit the stream for that day while in scrap brain zone act 3? He was so close to finishing the game.

I like what you're doing with the TIHYDP videos, and keeping the dream alive but this video lacked a lot of commentary. Also I feel that you take too many clips/sounds from Soma. Despite that I hope to see you grow into a full fledged detractor and help expose Phil for the bum that he is.
I actually played Sonic 1 and 2 several times and Phil just doesn't know how to play those games. The lack of commentary is because people have complained there's too much of it, so I toned it down and I use the references of Soma quite often because it fits the context and I also use DSP memes like "WHY AM I TOXIC?!" or "I'm a mature adult/not a children's entertainer" and also Snort Burnell's clips as well, plus some of the references are also of other sources like George Carlin, Dr. Loomis of Halloween and some others. Also, thanks for the feedback, I have been doing this for 4 years and I haven't really had much in terms of growth of being that due to be overlooked compared to Soma, The Outsider, Pocok, Devin 'Diablo' Griffin and others.
At the start he mentioned that he can change the volume from the console itself yet he never does and the games are rather loud compared to him. 3:25 That's barely even singing, wow. 14:26 I'm honestly surprised that he didn't create one when he got to Marble Zone, he actually didn't die a single time until Labyrinth, other than failing at puzzles and special stages. 21:28 Nah, Sonic Forces is. 22:53 How does he not understand that he keeps jumping almost against the hazards and with bad timing? 26:18 Oh for the love of God! 32:29 Nice, you used Egg Reverie Zone for the speed up on both final bosses but what did he tell them? Yea he cheated bad on here. The end of sonic 2 it was supposed to say try again with eggman since he didn't get all the emeralds. But the playthrough was awesome his fails kept me laughing. Nice job Mitch.

The Sega Genesis was my first console as a 3 year old and Sonic 1 and 2 were my first games. At 3, I was more coordinated and intuitive than this sack of shit is in his late thirties or however old he is. I didn't need save states (because I had the original Genesis, not the model he has, so iirc, mine didn't have the feature) and I still managed to get the special stages done and beat both games better than him. Only halfway through this video and I may start drinking just to get through the other half of this.
