CALIFORNIA Housing & Rent SO HIGH ! HOW I SAVE MONEY LIVING IN A WAREHOUSE Mtv Cribs WAREHOUSE LIFE

- I live in California and I am familiar with the housing crisis. Many times in my life I have been extremely stressed about where I was going to live because the rent on my apartment increased so much so fast.
After a trip to Japan I returned to the United States in 2016 and decided to give up on the typical apartment lifestyle. I chose to live in this warehouse which saves me thousands a year on rent. There are so many benefits to living in office. . Benefits like near Unlimited close parking, no neighbors on nights and weekends, square footage is 1/3 the price of apartments..
These benefits have allowed me to live in one of the most expensive parts of California where I can make very good money but I don’t throw it all away on expensive housing.. living in an office I have been able to save and invest every single month and I pity the typical day-to-day life of those who live in apartments.. most of the Orange County apartment buildings look like hotels 3/4 empty with neighbors side by side above and below.
In this video I’ll give you an intimate tour MTV cribs style of the office I was living in for the last five years

from a person that lived in a warehouse for 10 years, showered in a bucket for the first year, suggest getting a gym membership to 24hr. Water usage triggers the property management to come and check the units. There was always a constant fear of getting busted and getting kicked out. Living like this is not for everyone,
You make some very good points especially about the gym.
I can do a whole video about the negatives.. of office living too. I have been fortunate for the most part… crime is a big factor as well. I did have a car broken into and once stolen and more than once had issues with homeless and landlords
Good for you showing this, a lot of people are living way beyond there means and I’ve always preached that the way you increase investments is by lowering your overall costs so that you can invest more. Very cool you thought outside the box
Thank you for the kind words! I have been judged for not living in a conventional “apartment “ my sister teases me saying things like “you live like a rat in a cave” I know how I live and it’s cleaner than most rats hahaha
Street smart with dignity. Just continue what you do. You always made good choices. Your grandparents had raised you well! Stay safe!! 😊😊
Thank you so much!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I own two properties trust me if you're not a nuisance and pay your rent and agreeable property owner glad to get paid not have an empty unit
That’d be a dream to live in a warehouse like that. I hate paying over $1200 on rent in small living spaces myself. luckily the apartment I lived in Poway was not like that. The rent was $1640 but all in all I had lots of space for a one bedroom apartment had thick walls and doors which means I could play my guitar at 3 AM and none of my neighbors would hear it. Then I had the convenience of a 7-11 next door that was a 30 second walk open 24 hours then I had wide open spaces with views of mountains and the other side of town for miles. And the entire town was a 15 minute walk. The beach was a 30 minute drive with all scenery and change of environment every 15 minutes also it was amazing. Before I got my apartment I was sleeping at motels and my car. When I was sleeping in my car the backseats did not fold down all the way and it was curved a bit with the hard metal edge is hurting my back. To solve that problem I used a camping pad and it worked just fine. After my air mattress broke on the first few months of living in my apartment I ended up sleeping on the floor and I actually liked sleeping on the floor better than I do sleeping on a bed. I am not sure why but sleeping on the floor with a mattress pad or a thick layered pad is better for your back than sleeping on a mattress bed. Unfortunately I had to leave southern California because I could not deal with the politics and high cost of living anymore.
It’s getting worse everywhere. I moved to PHX from the SF Bay Area in 2012. Could buy a nice house for $250k at the time. Housing was super cheap here at the time. Nowadays, it’s impossible to find any houses for under $500k for something small or $700k for something a family with kids would prefer. Rents have followed a similar pattern.
which part of the bay area specifically?
Good on you sir. You live comfortably and happily, which is already better than most. You live free because you belong to no one. Because you’re detached from material things, neither debt, nor credit can enslave you. You’re unplugged from the matrix. For those who would criticize you, fret not, they’re simply enamored with their illusion; they’re draped in it- fully enveloped; they’d defend it until the end because they dependent to it.
Again, good on you sir.
You really made my morning Nelson, thank you. I read this comment from my new office in a safer area. I have to finish building a permanent shower and then I’ll make a video of it
Thank you for sharing. I LOVE your van too. So rad! I'm considering living in an office space as well. We shall see.
Pretty dope that you found a way to have a decent living space for a fraction of the cost!! I live in rural Ohio and rent a decent-sized duplex for $500 a month 😂, but of course I don’t have access to the big city and everything that comes with it. I prefer it this way tho…. But if I was to live by myself in the city, I would LOVE to be in your situation. Good luck to u buddy 👍🏻
Thank you Cory! I moved to a new office I might make a video of it soon! I love Cali but it’s getting wild out here (covid, crime, costs) some day I may venture to Ohio for that affordable rent cheers! Happy new year
Always liked your videos because of this. You live smart. More of this!
This video should have millions of views. Thanks!
I live a huge office facility but no one knows. I haven't had any problems. It's 500 sf and about 70% cheaper than the average rent at $639/ mo. But no shower 😕
Get a planet fitness membership 10-20 a month and you can shower there
or look up how people make portable/ temporary showers
I CAN'T AFFORD SECTION EIGHT RENT, SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING THIS.
Like how you've managed your life. Not easy living in today's world.
It sure isn’t! Best of luck too you 😉
Thanks for sharing this.
I’m currently arguing with idiots on whether or not you can live in an office. People are dumb and don’t look stuff up before opening their mouths.
So true. We’re all here cause we think outside the box. 📦
Great video, I've grown a fascination of how people live, I've been homeless before. I also had my truck stolen.
I’m sorry they stole your truck! I am going to be making some more “office living” videos soon of my new place
Great video. That is an awesome idea .
Any tips on finding a good warehouse in LA/Bay area? I've been considering this for years, but the only thing holding me back is fear of getting caught/evicted by nosy landlords.
You need to rent from a big corporation. They usually are managing many properties at a time paying less attention to small units if you keep your head down. This place was a private landlord, Rich old man with nothing to do. People lived in this unit for more than 20 years but eventually the old man driving around on Sunday afternoons would see people and as soon as Covid rules for eviction ended he kicked us out. Our new spot has no onsite manager and they manage a ton of buildings
This was really nice man! I was thinking about moving in a warehouse also!
It’s not for everybody but it’s cool if you can make it work
@@IamPowerSurgeOfficial work/home space.
Wow, loved the way you conditioned your home/warehouse! Fantastic, wishing you and your girlfriend all the best!
Thank you so much for the sweet compliment. I’m in a new office and will do a video of this one as soon as it’s dialed in.. sadly, me and the girlfriend broke up. That’s one of the reasons I haven’t made videos in a while. I’m pretty tore up about it.
@@IamPowerSurgeOfficial Sorry about that. Try to make the best of bad times. I've always wanted to rent an office or something like that, to live. Shortly I'll be moving to NY from Spain and plan to do it. Animo 😊👍
Subbed hard asf your a genius
Thank you so much I’ll make a video of my new office as soon as it’s dialed in
Cool way of living!! Love that dog!
Thank you! She just turned 15! Still going 🐶
After watching this a few years later on the part where you say that the apartments are like bugs living on top of each other parking is in a garage five stories down very small living spaces and smelling the fuck of your neighbors. That’s literally how it is countrywide now living situation. Like inflation is so high on the rise, that is liable and home prices outpace 80% of peoples wages I went from having three apartments of my own with my last one in Miami Florida where a tiny studio 380 ft.² was $1425 on rent which was expensive in Miami standards in 2021 to sleeping in my car in Boston and not being able to find a place to live or get a job. Now I live with a family member that has over six cats and not enough space by own without interfering with others like I can’t live this way and I shouldn’t be living this way. I swear to God America’s looking like China, Haiti, Argentina, and Cuba as time goes on.
I’m terribly sorry to hear about your situation right now and I just hope that it improves.
I completely hear you with inflation even the price of these commercial units has increased a lot .. after the place in this video I moved to a new unit and was much less comfortable. The complex is more dangerous. We had a lot of break-ins. The lease is ending this month and I moved back into a room for rent for $1000 a month the price of increased $1000 a month for 800 ft.² to $1500 a month for the same space. Without a really really good commercial unit (with shower, warehouse and office, attic for storage) I wouldn’t move back into an office right now.
I plan on making a video soon about why I would not be living in an office anymore . I hope you find a place soon and I wish you the best of luck. Keep your chin up, friend.
@@IamPowerSurgeOfficial oh damn, that’s kind of sucked. I imagine that office was like your home all these years. For me I’m actually just doing what I can to get a passport and get out of the country. Like no matter where you go there’s no affordable living and it just seems like Skid Row is expanding everywhere as an American born and raised here previously having my own apartment of three I should not be living this way I shouldn’t live in my car. I shouldn’t live in poverty. I shouldn’t have a tough time finding a great pay job. I should not be living in small spaces with six cats that annoy me for food when I’m in the kitchen, trying to do dishes or cook my own food. I shouldn’t hear the same topics every day like it’s extremely overwhelming and America is starting to look like Argentina in Cuba every day I actually made plenty of videos about that topic if you want to check them out
Awesome thank I’ve been wanting to do that .. live in like a wear house making it it home/ working on my cars and bike
I wish I had shown the garage! I had about 700 ft.² of garage too . I had a barbecue with an outtake fan to suck out all the smoke.
So great
Love that you're organized
I would love to do this
I’m gonna make some new videos soon about office living, my new place and some negatives about it I forgot to mention
Man that rent for those apartments are not too far off from downtown Salt Lake City with similar layouts
Nice Spartan helmet, brother. See you at Renegade Man, man!
Seee you out there! I thought about bringing a whole spartan outfit to playa haha
Yo I saw a ek civic I sub right away. I have a silver one with 160k and still rolling 😂
They are such good cars!!! Thank you for the sub
“We get clean up in there” 😂😂
Idky but I assumed living in a warehouse would be super spacious for some reason
Complete opposite of what I thought I was gonna watch . But all in all great vid
Thank you
I didn’t show the warehouse half cuz it was messy there is a 12x 25 garage!
How can you search for a corporate on warehouse or office or what ways did you find these warehouse or office run by corporate ?
I can’t find any and stay in souther California
Would it be less stressful to do something like this if you were to spend 1-2 nights a week at a hotel, probably over the weekend? Being there early and late from Monday to Friday seems like something nobody would find odd, and it would reduce power/water usage that can draw attention from the PM. I've been thinking of doing the same thing myself, but only part time and living minimally so that if things do go wrong I don't have to move whole apartment's worth of goods out of a warehouse. The other thing is, having an actual business operation in the warehouse will go a long way towards keeping any negative attention away from you. Just set up a small business selling cheap products, set up a stockroom and office inside the warehouse, and grow it over time.
Your hotel idea is 💯 I travel as a performer and I get hotels for work so I get a few days a month outside the office
There is no housing shortage, there is tons of land! Unlimited lots to build on, the problem is %50 - %40 of the cost to build goes into regulation, permits and "studies'. Ecological permits. Why can't you buy a small plot of land, a quarter acre and put two rv's on it? That compared to zombie rv's parked outside your home? Do something now! call your congressman, woman. Speak out. Stop hiding in office building illegally. You put a ton of energy into Burningman, but you cant live in your home town without fear of crime and theft. The entire West coast is going to shit. We have mobs just destroying buildings here in Portland. Olympia is overrun by homeless. You are worried about abandon bicycles in the desert? Try, put one hour a day into calling and emailing and getting involved in your local government. Or not.
I feel like this is in Placentia/Anaheim area on Orangethorpe right?! Haha I live by there. I've just thought about something like this. Didn't think it would be possible
Hey I am a music producer living in Orange County and trying to find a bigger place to both live and record in for cheap. Can you help me or tell me how you got this place!! Super inspiring would love to do the same
My Dream ❤️❤️❤️
Name dropping is funny, Tarrot cards...oooo, lol
I'm thinking that some environment murals in your office could transform the space into anything......even just some fake windows.
My new place has very nice windows. Actually, it feels more natural.
Whats the sq footage 🤔 id like one similar in space but in Fresno ?
This one was about 1000 sq ft rented for about 1400$ a month at the time we moved out
Ever since the Ghost Ship warehouse fire, cities have been cracking down on code enforcement "loopholes".
Fires are something we have to be very cautious of. I had a friend living in a warehouse and she was cooking but had a stroke she called me and I rushed over and put her in the car took her to the hospital but the unit was full of smoke and rice was burning if Nobody I’ve gotten there in time it may have started a bad fire
The only thing I wouldn't like is no kitchen sink, and using the bathroom sink for kitchen items. Have you been using the toilet to flush soapy dishwater with food particles, etc, without risk of clogging? THANK YOU!!
Exactly! For dishes step one is scrape every bit of food I can into trash, then wash in kitchen sink. The toilet is a great food disposal for small particles. Don’t put chicken bones or anything bigger than a 💩 down there haha.
In my new office home I added a sprayer to the toilet I can spray my dishes now it’s pretty nice
@@IamPowerSurgeOfficial Come to think of it, I'd probably get a big bucket or tub of soapy water to wash the dishes in, then use the bathroom sink for rinsing only. Then flush the grey water.
From what I understand dish soap breaks down grease so my guess is the risk of clogging the toilet is very minimal
Wow bro about to do this in new york !! Super infuential
Thank you I have never been to New York . Before the pandemic it was a place I wanted to visit
Where is the other video of your new warehouse? I don’t see it.
I still have to make it, it’s a mess right now post burning man. I’ll make it before end of year promise
What I cannot understand about the housing crisis is why they don't repurpose office buildings to residential. Low end, small units, no bathroom in the unit. Really compact for low cost. Have REALLY low cost ones without any cooking facilities. Rather they could be shared in the building, say one per floor. Because most offices don't often have water so you're not going to plumb every room! That would cost a fortune. So it makes sense to not renovate the entire building. Only super low cost housing tenants could put up with having shared cooking/bathrooms. Its the natural transition. Also a lot of offices have no windows. You have to go really low cost to rent a place without windows. You have to do this without changing the layout because that's really expensive. Its the future as more and more people work from home and economic classes become more divided. Let's face it: Some people are just terrible at managing their money. The less we give them the better off they will be. So provide food and housing and almost no money. And a computer/internet to find work. But not a laptop they'll lose. Something anchored in the building nobody can steal or damage or lose. I think low cost housing could actually be profitable if done on a large scale in the private sector because some people realize saving money is more important than buying the latest car and clothes. That can come later.
I just moved into a new place and it has windows! It’s also in a safer neighborhood. Cooking facilities can be easily figured out with some ingenuity. Same with showers
@@IamPowerSurgeOfficial If water is nowhere in that part of the building it has to be plumbed there. Floors need to be dismantled as well as walls. Its not a minor job. One thing I'd do though is use chemical toilets. They take up very little space, unlike regular toilets with their plumbing. That way people can have privacy if they want it. Which probably most people would!
Plus the people that need it most are the ones that can pay the least so that's who we should focus on. Plus all the minimalists would go for it too. Why live in a van if you can get a room for say $300/mo? Not many would. Most people don't want to move around. They want stability for a while.
Combine this with a bed on pulleys or motorized and you REALLY save space. Beds are such a waste of space. They're ridiculous. Use a single mattress on 1/2" plywood and it would be very light. When you want to sleep lower it to the floor. Or mount it over a long desk. Helps if the ceiling is a lot more than 8' tall but it can still be done in normal vertical constraints. Especially if the people renting are shorter than average. For new construction I'd go for a 6.5' to 7' ceiling height and a murphy type bed system. With each 6-7 floors you'd have an extra floor. Well worth living unconventionally.
I just engineered the new shower set up and it’s pretty awesome I added a bidet to the toilet so I can use the sprayer to pour water in the buckets. I use a fish tank heater in the bucket to keep them to 88° and then I top it off with some hot water from the coffee pot if I want it hotter. Using a simple battery powered pump with spray nozzle I pump the water over myself in a shower tent I used for burning man.
I stand and a 12 inch high pool that was designed for dogs And when the pool fills up with water I have a pump connected to a 20 foot tube and I pump the water to the sink or if it’s night time to the street
@@IamPowerSurgeOfficial That really sounds pretty ingenious! Rather incredible how you assembled that making so many different things work together.
If you want to live with any way to save cash in Cali you gotta go guerrilla style
So basically u paid $800 for that van lol. That’s incredible for a vehicle that actually runs.
I know right?! I did have to put like 1100$ under the hood to make sure it was burning man ready .. I’m excited to take it to Black rock Desert for the renegade burning man end of August
How much is the rent ? How does the landlord feel ?
Dude are you off brooke hurst? Im trying to by and old upstairs tatoo shop on whittier blvd.
Whoa!! You got close ! It was off macarthur and harbor
I'm about ready to do this. How do you negotiate with the landlord?
You just don’t tell them and keep it discreet that you stay there over night
@@IamPowerSurgeOfficial do the landlords come around often?
How did You find a suitable warehouse/office to live in?
Honestly it is very difficult after this spot I moved to a new unit and it is not nearly as good as this situation. Some parts of Life is harder than when I was in this place. Now that I am in a different office
💪
Can you please message me the location of this warehouse? I live in SoCal. I don’t know how to direct message you
I no longer live at this office and I spent three years in a different office. It was not as nice and I had a really hard time. I am actually working on a video about why I no longer live in warehouses. I realize I made this place look really nice but a situation like I had is extremely rare and I was lucky to have it for so long

You don't even mention what you're paying for the office space. That is the whole point, right?
The price changed because we were here for many years years ago this unit was only $1000 when we left it was 1400 per month
@@IamPowerSurgeOfficial That's a lot of money. It didn't look very big at all. I'd recommend you look into house hacking. Get a house with the right layout that has living/dining rooms that can be partitioned and rented individually. Then spend most of your time outside in the yard where you will control as the lease holder as you will be occupying a small part of that house for financial reasons. I know its hard in overpriced LA but if rent is high there you can charge high rent. So it might work. The bigger the house the easier it is to live free where the people you rent to more than pay for the total cost of the house. Its all about the percentage of the house you occupy and the percentage of the house you can convert to rentable space. Many people do it - they just don't tell anyone for obvious reasons. The downside is you have to have savings to cover for when you get an occasional vacancy. Being able to do light construction helps immensely. Basements can make all the difference in the world. It is, after all, one entire floor in most situations. That's a lot of square footage! Just learn how to make them brighter with reflective surfaces outside the windows so more light enters. The curse of basements is always a lack of light.
@@swilhelm3180 Bro only problem is, you gotta buy the house 💀💀not everyones got 500k lying around let alone enough to put down for a mortgage.
@@bluebird1954 I didn't mean house hacking by buying the house. No....you rent the house then rerent the rooms. Its all in the layout and how you can use the space. Every room with a window should be rented. Almost nobody does that. They have a living room, dining room, laundry room, library, sunroom, office....often not used. A 2 br house can become a 5 br house if you're inventive. Also for more profit buy a trailer, park it in the driveway (because its your house and you control the outdoor space) and rent it out or live in it and rent still another room in the house. With the right layout and creativity many people can pull in 50% more than they pay for the house. AND you have control over it. You're the boss. That's a nice perk. And no maintenance issues! Just make sure you pay that rent on time every month - or early. Never, ever be late. Reliability in a tenant is treasured by a landlord.
Very nice, how much?
For a long time it was cheap only $1000 a month for like 10 years but he slowly raise the rent to 1100, 1200, and 1400 by the time we moved out last year but still much cheaper than an apartment is part of California
Would you ever find yourself in Utah?
