What a great record and ELO really made some of the very best in the 70's and 80's. By the smile on her face i think Cynthia really enjoyed this track......and who would not.👏👏👏

The "Oops!" at the beginning was actually a mistake that occurred during recording. Jeff asked the singer (whose name I forget) if he minded if he kept it in the final product.
Beginning to feel as if it was you two that bought my vinyl collection........
I feel that ELO in general & Jeff Lynne in particular don't get anywhere near the love they deserve. The ELO project was started by Jeff & another talented multi-instrumentalist called Roy Wood when they both were in a band called The Move - who then went on to form Glam Rock band Wizzard. So many connections, so many talented musicians, so many good songs.

Thanks for reviewing "Rockaria", other ELO songs in a similar rockin' style are "Poker" from their 1975 album "Face the Music" and "Illusions in G Major" from their 1974 album "Eldorado". They prove that the English guys with the big fiddles could rock & roll when they wanted to.
Cynthia & Chris, the opera singer's goof at the start was not planned, but Jeff thought it was charming so he left it in. Great song! The lyric, "I though I saw the mayor there but I wasn't really sure", I think is a nod to The Beatles' song, "A Day In The Life", when John sings, "Nobody was really sure if he was from the House of Lords". As for your next ELO song, I think you should react to their 1977 classic, *"Standin' In The Rain",* you two will love it! :D (Studio version, from their album, Out of The Blue.) Happy New Year!

The very first overseas band I saw play in Melbourne, at the Myer Music Bowl….. this album exploded across the world…. I think this album stayed in the charts for over a year….. Rockaria, Telephone Line, Living Thing, So Fine , Shangri La, Tightrope….. Love this band.
Oooh, check out "Night in the City" of ELO's OUT OF THE BLUE album. It's one of their most underrated songs but is considered a favorite among diehard fans!

Fantastic song, and in my very top 2 or 3 from ELO ! .. They nailed the rock / operatic mix, and the whole thing was so melodic, well arranges and performed .. A classic !
What ELO were doing in the 70's was something no one else could do. Their records are fascinating. They were sonically superior to all.
World class musicians having fun with this one.

One of my favorite bands growing up in the 70s. Hadn’t listened to them in a long time and have been rediscovering stuff I’ve heard and not heard from many years ago. I guess I knew a little bit about what I was talking about when I was 14 I’ve always saw them a little bit moody, blues, and a little bit Beatles but definitely a lot originality and creativity. Thanks for the video.

Ellos son Heroes de la Musica,. Another great hit from theirs could be "Shine Little Love" "I am Alive" "Calling America" estos 3 hits fueron dentro de los Top 20 en US.
They played this in their live set when I saw them in concert in 2018. You could pick any song from this album and it is fire! Shangri-la iand Mission are the sleeper tracks on this album - those are the haunting melodies that Jeff is known for.
I have a gripe with ELO (and some other bands). When they go to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that institution asks the band who from their past they want to include.
In ELO’s case they inducted Jeff Lynne, Bev Bevan, Richard Tandy, and Roy Wood. Wood was instrumental in the formation of the band but left after one album
Others, like bassist Kelly Groucutt who was with the band for eight years was not included. Violinist Mik Kaminski was with ELO even longer; 1973 and 1979 and touring from 1981 to 1986
I find that kind of snub not very good for Jeff Lynne’s reputation.
He’s not alone. Fleetwood Mac snubbed Bob Welch who was there at the crucial moment as the band steered away from Blues to pop. Jeremy Spencer, and Danny Kirwin who were with them just as long were included.

They did a great set at Maida Vale studios in London which is well worth watching.
Such a brilliant band and very very skilled.

Actually when the opera singer started singing she started too soon and then went oops and they kept it in the recording
Taken from the A New World Record album. I can remember when this came out, the band I was in at school did this song. I still play along to it while having a few ales. Apparently the opera parts were sung in Swedish or some Scandinavian language. Thanks for doing this one.

Omg SPK - I’m watching BBC4 Erie at of TOTP from this week in 1978 and it’s great , Blondie , Ian Dury The Ruts .. BUT .. as I’m typing there’s a song on right now that I think is the female version of that div you mentioned the other day , Sydney Devine .. it’s One day at a time by Lena Martell .. ffs that’s gawd awful .. the Scottish Parliament should get a hold of that track and bury it for good 🤦♂️

I watched a World Wildlife Fund appeal advert earlier for Snow Leopards that mainly live in the Nepal area of the Himalayas , they were asking for money to help protect the Apex predators range to allow them to continue unmolested preying on their principal food source of Mountain goats .. !
Can you imagine how upsetting that must be if your a mummy n daddy Mountain goat sitting down to dinner with your 3 kids , munching your grass and sedges watching tv and THAT advert came on ? 😮… “ Daddy , why are the people giving money to the monsters that kill and eat us ? “… “ that’ll be an ecumenical question Timmy , now eat your sedges “….. !! 😳

But I'm a realist, and it's utterly absurd for someone to say his voice is as good today as it's ever been. Especially if they saw a clip of him performing two months ago in San Diego. The last time Jeff had his prime voice was ELO's 2001 Zoom concert. But it was still pretty darn good at Wembley '17....maybe 70% of his prime voice. Not in terms of pitch, he's always gonna have that, but rather in terms of vitality, strength of projection. In San Diego two months ago, his voice was down to about 40% of what it was in his prime. And sadly, he didn't look well. He was stationary like a very old man, even though he's only 76. I'm worried.
