    Helpful review of this 76MTS model - I am considering an upgrade from my older Garmin 51 which has been very reliable - but I want a slightly larger and better screen and the additional functionality of the 76 ticks the boxes

    The UI font has changed for the first time since 2006. Looks like a modified version of Android to me.

    Hi mate, just bought one these, arrives tomorrow.. I assume the live traffic alerts and auto re-route round the jam or whatever is dealt with by the app on the mobile and sent to the Garmin? Cheers

    Hm this is strange - I don´t see any 3D buildings on the map. The DriveSmart65, 66 and 76 should have (at least generic) 3D buildings everywhere, and high quality buildings in bigger cities and when getting close to well-known places like Buckingham Palace or Eiffel Tower. Why is there only a 2D map shown on this 76 version?

    If I am connecting to this via Bluetooth can I also be connected to the car via Bluetooth at the same time as this is how I make calls and play music through my car system?

    • @immDroidz
      @immDroidz Před rokem

      Depends on your phone, most of the times, yes, you can connect to multiple bluetooth devices.
      I often have music playing through my stereo and calls going to a headset when im driving.

    just a question...why would you require the GPS if the app does exactly the same as the unit? so you get the same functionallity from the device in the app.

    With most cars now having Android Auto and Apple Carplay, are sat navs a bit pointless now?

      I tend to agree I did say this in the campervan review but there is still niche market for these

      Here's my experience with Android Auto: it's great for tooling around town but as soon as you go somewhere that doesn't have cell signal, it's lost. Having GPS on your phone turned on and making sure that the setting in Android Auto is on doesn't help. I live in the western half of the United States, so there's A LOT of places that don't have cell signal. Navigation that depends on a cell signal is useless to me. I've never had that problem with a car GPS so I'm sticking with that.

      Try using it in a place without cell signal and report back. When I tried it with Android Auto, navigation no longer worked.

    • @Governor1993
      @Governor1993 Před 2 lety +1

      I agree with Sherrif's comment. I can confirm through experience driving thousands of miles in the West and Plains of the US that there are many spots (sometimes hundreds of miles) with no cell reception at all (so a cell booster won't even work). In those cases a GPS-only navigation system with built-in maps is essential. Even if you pre-download offline maps from Google to your phone and only use your phone's GPS (which in theory should be about the same thing)....trust me it still doesn't work even in areas I would expect it to.
      Having a dedicated GPS navigation device has saved me so many times. My built in-vehicle navigation on my Jeep Uconnect is great but if you have a vehicle (like my Tacoma) where the built-in navigation sucks or you don't have one or you rent a car a dedicated GPS system is important in my opinion.
      I also use a cell booster in my Jeep so even if there is a slight cell reception of say one bar (Cell navigation is useless then), the booster will sometimes amplify the signal and give me 4 bars or max. However, if you can only boost the signal to say 2 bars or if you have no signal at all (which is the case for hundreds of miles in some spots) the booster won't work at all.
      So for peace of mind when on a road trip in remote areas, I feel most comfortable having a dedicated GPS device (no phone).

      i am currently on vacation and am looking to buy one of these to replace the built in gps in my car. the built in does ok kinda but tonight it took me on quite the adventure out of the way for no reason, and the voice directions it gives i cant stand. So looking to buy a dedicated unit that i can also update the maps on without leaving my car on for an hour for it to update the software.
      plus, if you are going to a different country you might not have cell data to use google maps or something (the one time i tried to download offline maps it did not work so just going by my experience with that)

      Lately, a corpse in a coffin transported by undertaker was determined by a court of law to not count towards the occupancy.
