Hey Vince I am fortunate to have access to a lot of ash, which I de-bark to accelerate the drying time. I cut big 20"+ Diameter rounds to length 10" - 15" ( 6kw and 10kw log fires in different rooms) then with an axe and mallet remove the bark into shingles which I in turn use as weed suppressants. Most of the logs skin fairly easily, exposing the emerald ash bugs threads, attractive once cleaned out with a wire brush). Once bark removed I leave uncut in the sun for a couple of days and as a result the multiple cracking is really impressive. I than split as you do in square and rectangular sections so satisfying . With all exposed surfaces available for moisture evaporation I can dry ash in 6 months with good summer sun, verified by splitting and moisture testing at the core of the log 15 - 20% and lower - admiration, passion and gratitude for the humble tree and the rewards it provides

The tie in pieces that you use are not cheating. Certainly a tall unstable pile is certainly unsafe. My conceit is that I thought that I invented them. I split them from double length logs so they are invisible. The stability they add is amazing. Your wood piles are beautiful.

You display great knowledge and skill - Old crafts are an art and bring with them a great sense of pride and satisfaction - I grew up watching Jack Hargreaves Out Of Town on a Sunday afternoon and have spent many years thereafter admiring such practices - I thrive on gathering, cutting, splitting, stacking and drying wood for my log fires, all of which are fulfilling both mentally and physically

Thank you, sir! You`ve done a excellent work! My entire life i lived in the city and heated my house with gas. Now because of an extremal circumstances in my country i`ve forced to move to village very far from my home. There`s no gas, only cast iron stove and the large forest near my new house. The wood fires was absolutely new for me, and your channel came as greatest help. I can listen your stories, watch you chopping wood, and kindling fires for eternity. Hope to see more of your new videos!

Hello Vince, nothing better than a neatly stacked wood stack. I know exactly what you mean when you say that wood can shrink up to 20% and could topple over? Yes, it’s happened to me a couple of times this season. I went over to my woodpile and found a couple of stacks had partially collapsed due to the drying process, out in the paddock, and in full sunshine.

Was sitting in front of my own log rack earlier today, smoking a cigar and saw that new videos were posted. Loved to see the set up where you keep cut wood, Vincent. I wish I had that much space in which to put firewood. There is something unarguably beautiful about a rack filled with good stuff! Keep that new one filled anyway!

Hey Vince great video. I recently bought your book on eBay. It's by far the best book out there on wood and Wood fires. I've read a few of them. You provide a lot of knowledge. Thanks, glad to see you making videos again.

Love watching a likeminded fellow, I’m sure you must know of the car tyre to encase the chopping wood and stop it flying all over the place technique, it does save a lot of bending down and replacing….
