  • Purchased a Honda ATC 200s 3 wheeler with bad motor and converted it into a two wheeler monster mini bike. Awesome video. That young man will remember dad later in life everytime he sees a minibike. When I was 10 my dad brought me an old used minibike home. He would wrench on it about everytime i had it out. He finally looked at me one day and said, listen, you have watched me fix it all these times and if you want to keep riding, you will keep it running. I started picking up tools and doing what he taught me. As I got older, he got me a used 1975 Honda XL100. I put points in it once and rode the hell out of it. Thank You Dad.

    I've tried to reply to your comment but your CZcams settings are probably disabled and I couldn't write back to you. Regarding parts, I've sold the engine for $100 and rear axle for $75 to some kid who is going to make a drift trike. I guess it's a new craze now slipping and sliding down the hill into incoming traffic.

      Original gas tank was hella rusty and i just didn't want to deal with it. Besides, gas gets old after a while when it sits in the gas tank. That's why i decided to use smaller tank.It gives me several hours of riding time and i always refill it with fresh gas. Win Win

    Running trail bikes are sold anywhere between $1000 to $3000 bucks depending on their condition. My hacked up creation came out to $350. I tried to persuade myself to show more respect to Hondas but my wallet told me to go this route.

      @balabay77  Před 9 lety +6

      Yes sir, that was the whole intention to turn it into a jumbo/ giant mini bike. I'm not an expert in rebuilding these motors. I was quoted at anywhere between $600 to $800 for complete rebuild. For that price I can buy 6 go kart motors and ride it till the wheels fall off. It wasn't meant to go fast 'cause I was making it for my kid. All in all it was a cheap build and my son likes it.

    Here is a Great tip for EVERYONE!!. Next time you need to change color of of a seat or any vinyl or leather,
    Try some Fiebings leather dye. It is a Great product! It is a thin liquid, But Very strong like ink and it will soak in rather than sit on top. And it will not chip or flake off when flexed. First use a very light coat, then a second coat for even coverage. It will look a bit smudgy, But put just a little paste shoe polish in it and it will look Terrific and will last a Long time! One $7 bottle will easily do 5 or 6 seats and touch-up is super easy! If it is ever needed. Thanks for the videos! And Super Thanks for doing all this with your Kids!! Big Thumbs Up!!

    Hello Gunner
    I've tried to reply to your question but your settings are disabled where no one can reply to you so that's why i'm using this message feature to get back to you.
    I purchased this 3 wheeler for $200 as is.
    sold the motor for $100 and rear axle for $75 leaving me with $25 bucks worth of stuff like front end,gas tank, frame and wheels. Bought harbor freight motor for $100, torque converter on eBay for $100 and rear hub for $25 on eBay. Kill switch for $10 and hand grips for $12 also on eBay. Paint and primer $30 and welding flux core wire at home depot for $12. Chain was $20 and rear sprocket $17. Got the tubing for free at scrap yard.This whole project roughly speaking ended up costing me around $350 bucks. All in all, it came out cheaper than getting a baja mini bike at the store but those massive tires are priceless. If you are planing on doing similar project than get a jack-shaft to off set your motor with rear sprocket. it will be much easier to make adjustments. good luck with your build and let me know how it goes.

      @balabay77  Před 9 lety +4

      Gabe Lewis Thank you for your input Gabe. I do have another 3 wheeler that is in good running condition. i will eventually restore it to mint condition and keep it as a momentous of the early 80's. Plastics are weathered but the trike runs great. The bike in this video went tits up when it started to have a grinding noise in the motor. I was quoted around 600 to 800 just to rebuild the motor. It wasn't worth my time and $$$ to restore it. Purchased this trike on craigslist for $200 specifically to make a mini bike out of the frame. In my neck of the woods these trikes are still readily available anywhere between 100 to 1000 bucks depending on the condition that its in. Ranchers will gladly sell their rusty barn toys for dirt cheap. Thanks for watching.

    What a great build and a father/son project. I can't believe how great it all came out and how nice it looks. I am sure your son is proud to have it and enjoys using it very much. One thing you might want to try is to lower the air pressure in the tires, especially the rear tire. Those balloon tires are designed to operate at low pressure to give the rider some cushion as the rear of the bike (and ATC) was rigid. It will also help with traction.

    • @balabay77

      Simon Rogers Thanks a million Simon for your support. I totally understand that for sentimental value, people would not take too kindly to hack up projects like the one in this video. Here's my take on this. Besides having a blown motor, the 3 wheeler was in bad shape and too far gone to be able to salvage it. Trike needed a complete restoration to make it look like new. (roughly 2000 to 3000 thousand dollars.) I basically gave it a new shot at life. So it lost a wheel, big deal! At least its being used on the weekends instead of sitting in someones barn collecting dust and rust. I got it for $200. sold the motor for $100 and rear axle for $75. ended up with frame and front suspension for a whopping $25 bucks. All in all, This bike came out to around $350. Its a cheap, functional bike that's fun to ride. Cheers.

    the engine comes with some oil in it from where they quality test it, its a good note to drain the manufacturer oil first and the change the oil again after a couple of rides because the first few hours are a heavy break-in period and you will probably get a lot of metal shavings in your first batch

    • @balabay77

      Yes sir. In my previous videos viewers were pissing and moaning when i drained factory oil that's why i didn't mention it in this video. They probably don't know that factory oil got lots of metal shavings and flakes in it so its OK to recycle it and top it off with fresh oil.

    We have the same 3 wheeler. The original transmission is wicked lol! Would throw you over the handlebars when you downshift if you weren't paying attention to the rpm's, of course it's clutch less. It's too bad you cut up that specific one, because their increasingly rare. Very powerful for being a 1 cylinder.

It turns out that its a taboo to modify these trikes. Not sure why everyone is pissing and moaning about my project when these ATC's go for around 100 bucks in my area. Rolling chassis are even cheaper ($50) On the up side, this video is being watched a lot more than any other ATC videos out there.

    Прежде всего, спасибо за видео, очень познавательно, мотивирует.
    С удивлением обнаружил, что в России мало кто занимается построением Go Kart и таких вот минибайков, по крайней мере видео по этой теме почти нет. В штатах, на сколько я понимаю, это весьма распространенное хобби и целая культура.
    Есть идея сделать русскоязычный сайт по тематике, где будут планы, схемы, примеры проектов, описание используемых модулей и т.п. Будет здорово, если вы поделитесь интересными материалами, идеями для русскоговрящих энтузиастов.

      Здравствуй Иван. Это хобби в России тоже популярно только не в мегаполисах. Это все где-то нужно хранить или в гараже или в частном секторе. Мой дядя жил в Сибири и он мастерил такие вездеходы что штатам и не снились. В тайге это было необходимо а мы здесь просто мастерим драндулеты как дешевое развлечение. Я бы с удовольствием поделился бы идеями но как видишь, собираю байки из всякого металлолома. Они получаются в единственном экземпляре. Если чем смогу помочь то помогу. Спасибо за просмотр и желаю всех благ.

      @balabay77  Před 9 lety

      My goal was to make a cheap or should I say very affordable bike out of junk. I also thought about going bigger with motor size but frame couldn't accommodate it. Secondly, I would of had to use 40 series torque converter or even go with Polaris snowmobile heavy duty clutch. The whole setup could of ended up costing me well over $1000 bucks. Bike in the video came out to $400. I know that it's not very powerful but for my 10 year old it's perfect. It's got enough cc's to Cary me around and I Weigh 180lb. Predator engines are cheap, reliable and disposable. Thanks for watching my clip.

    Another great build and priceless time and memories with your son. All too easy to go out and buy but these builds are priceless : ) The only thing I'd advise on is think about getting a more powerful welder as I'm guessing the one you use is pretty much wound up all the way... Either way, try and get a little more penetration on your welds. If you can see a tiny dip right on the edge of the weld then it's cutting deeper and a flat or concave weld is good to see rather than convex one : ) Just a simple tip from a fabricator and no disrespect intended. Damn good to see a Dad doing instead of the easy paying option !

      Thank you John for your welding tips and appreciate your support. This was my first ever welding project and as you can see my welds came out unbelievably bad. I'm getting better at it with every project. As far as welder concerned, its actually a 170 amp which is one step above 90 amp its just my inexperience at setting the temp and wire feed. So far whole bunch of people rode the thing and the welds are OK. This project actually came out cheaper than if i would of bought a bike at the store. Thanks a million for checking out my videos and take care. Cheers
