  • So a little walkthrough on how i repaired my huion kamvas pen display - kind of the same type of a tool as wacom cintiq - used for drawing on the screen / using a pen for interacting with your software
    the Layer of glass got smashed due to a fairly terrible placement of my htc vive vr set (new apartment, hadnt thought through the dangers of monitors facing the play area)
    Huion's support just told be to buy a new one and wouldnt help with any repaits - did not agree with that BS, so i ordered a piece of glass from a local glass company (for windows and such) and a car windshield repair kit for the glass paint and glue, then fit it all together.
    it works,definitely not as good as the original but for my fairly infrequent use, it will do.

    Props to you man for actually trying out a diy repair that in my experience with replacing laptop/tablet/phone glasses is exactly the same process. (but also lucky you that the LCD display underneath wasn't damaged!) It's a shame that wacom huion etc. don't even offer replacement parts for a consumer to purchase for what are perfectly fine devices and often VERY expensive in the first place even if it's a more budget oriented device.
    tip: use 99% alcohol on a q-tip and apply conservatively + scraping/abrasion to REALLY get rid of the old glue proper. - but that primer, windshield silicone , and clamp compression basically guaranteed that glass ain't going nowhere even with the old glue on there lol.

      What can I do if I damaged the display?, touch screen still working but it just show a black screen with some white points. It doesn't even show the Huion logo when It turns on. Can I Buy a new display and replace it? Heeelp

    I got my very old wacom DTI 520 cracked. So I was planning to get it fixed in local pc repair but worried that they might be rough or damage it. Your fix looks so easy to apply at home. Thanks a lot. I have antiglare screen (tinted glass that by coincidence fits on top of my wacom). Had the same problem, the feeling of its not like graphic tablet screen anymore. So I got those A3 transparent plastic sheet from printing shop and placed it on top of the screen. About 10 cent a sheet and replace it after few months ( you can see scribbles once the monitor is off or when sunlight hits the black screen). But this solved my problem.

      My old setup is still on, never thought of sending it to be replaced. My Wacom is very old still working with minor issues (no screen issue )but get things done and sending it for screen replacement must be handled with care (old equipment) and I can’t take that risk.

      hey! so if i understood correctly the transparent plastic sheet feels better when you use it? and you basically placed it over the glass one or you only used the plastic one?

    • @jokoivi
      @jokoivi  Před 2 lety +1

      You're welcome. Do be aware that thin acrylic of that size will flex a lot and it will scratch up real easily. Also with wacom, the customer support might be a bit better where they might be willing to repair or sell the parts ;)

    Hi there. Thanks for sharing this. I'm going through a similar fix on a much smaller tablet, but like you, my LCD and touch screen work. Can you tell me how thick the replacement glass is?
    I don't want to get something that is too thick and won't work for the capacitive touch screen.

    • @jokoivi
      @jokoivi  Před 2 lety +1

      You can just test how thick it can be by hovering your pen over the screen... If the cursor still works, it's good. Mine was 3mm. Anything thicker would be affect the drawing experience negatively while thinner would be hard to find i'd imagine

    • @liamjohnstone6570
      @liamjohnstone6570 Před 2 lety +1

      @@jokoivi 3mm is the minimum thickness my local glass company can provide, so that's good news. I will get it cut by them and test it out before I do any gluing. Thank you for the swift response!

    hi joseph. all ok?
    could you help ?.. my monitor was scratched by another glass, the risk that makes my work very difficult, I think I will have to change the glass for another one, or simply invert it!
    Could you tell me if it is safe for me to remove the entire glass with the iron? without breaking

    • @jokoivi
      @jokoivi  Před 2 lety

      Would it be safe? Definitely not, it's always a risky move which should be taken only if there's no way around it. There is a always chance of damaging the LCD underneath or breaking the glass. Also, Just the iron would not be enough, it Will need to be cut / pried with a blade still. The heat is mainly to make the glue a bit less stiff and give it a bit of leeway to get the knife in between. On the idea of flipping the glass around, while that might be a solution, the texture in the other side is not the same - the top is matted while the bottom is your normal slippery glass.
      I'd rather recommend finding some stick-on screen protector sheets instead as someone mentioned in one of the comments of this video. That should take care of the scratch.

      thickness: 3 mm

      Length (mm):
      31
      If yours is different, use a measuring tape on the glass.

    OMG you actually used glass panel (heavy and too shinny/reflexions).....why you didn't used plexiglass (acrylic transparent glass)1- 2mm tick, isn't heavy,little flexible, more cheap, easier to cut and the manufacor probable used the same (plastic glass).....also you can aply a transparent sticker as a protector and you will have a little grip to feel like drawing on paper and reduces the reflexions

    • @jokoivi
      @jokoivi  Před 7 měsíci

      Original was glass as well, just 1mm thinner with a matted surface. And I specifically went with glass because plexiglass is too soft - the pen would scratch it up real easily and it would flex under your hand with such a large panel and small thickness. And Plexi has plenty of reflections as well since its not the material, rather surface smoothness which causes it.
