  • Tara Brach - Loving and Losing - 04/09/2014
    The way that we relate to impermanence and loss shapes our capacity to live and love fully. This talk, drawing on Mary Oliver's poem "In Blackwater Woods", explores three elements in our response to this fleeting, precious life that are integral to our healing and freedom.

    Truly knowing that one of my deceased beloveds has been there awaiting my return to myself, I now know she has been there still all along. Shame and anger had been layered around my experience of her death because I was not able to take away her pain at the end of her precious life and death. Thank you for the beautifully clear reminder that there is a profoundly graceful learning which rides along with the waves of losing in its' many ways. And that the timing of such grace is organic. May you & your mother's happiness & good fortune continue & increase. ♡

    This is very important to me, my young mother passed away in feb, 2014. Charles Dickens said " And can it be that in a world so full and busy the loss of one weak creature makes a void in any heart so wide and deep that nothing but the width and depth of eternity can fill it up."

    Dear Tara,you prompt value and reflection whilst engaging with your own tribulations. Your generosity assists and promotes healing. May your dedication to illuminating wholeness be your companion at this time and always.

    If I only had a month to live I would read lots of books and maybe paint some pictures and eat anything I wanted like lots of ice cream and vegetarian pizza so I would not have to cook :) and if I only had a week to live I would do the same and if I only had a day to live I would just eat ice cream and sit outside and look at the trees and listen to the birds and the stream

    Thank you for the excellent words. Healing and reaffirming our life energy is so necessary. As our teachers have said, the losses we encounter are universal, so we must learn to navigate them.

    Thank you, Tara! My mother also passed away recently (the beginning of March) and I found this very healing to listen to. I appreciate your sharing of the poem by John Odonohue. Take care!

    So beautiful Tara. This helped me when I lost a loved one on 4-9-14. I listened to it several times and recommended it to another person today, and relistened. The last sentence or two at the end are so moving.

    I'm struggling to be here after losing the love of my Life and 4 of my 7 children just over 6 years ago I've been living in what I imagine is hell having to continue on caring for my 3 youngest children in very difficult circumstances.
    All My dreams/Our dreams gone, I've muddled thru this Dark tunnel/corridor with very little hope and faith left that there is a greater purpose and there will be light & love - I have no one absolutely not one family member who comforts me other than the duty of love from my very stressed children who have also lost so much and who are also hanging on by a thread wanting to see me rise up yet I have become disappointedly predictable with my reliable disorganised ways and broken promises and my avoidance of facing whats next or what I have to do to get out of this Funk. When I took the advice of my mentors with similar teachings I did not get support because most who knew me thought I was OK yet I was not ok most thought what I was labelled by the DV services who were supposed to help us but back pedalled when my psychologist attempted to advocate for me claiming "we thought Helen was very articulate, intelligent & resourceful so she will he ok"
    NoNO NO I was made homeless by those lived ones who betrayed me and received abuse of power from (mainly women can you believe it) all those I dealt with in our systems, the systems designed to help us failed us. I think I need to go away and absorb myself in your work as my whole reality has been moved and continues to be altered and ongoing abuse/manipulation/brainwashing/ and maligning of the 2 youngest children retraumatises us all continuously. How can all the years of my metaphysical & self development training now be useless and instead of healing I am becoming the person I have been accused of being and feeling like I am sinkng deeper into my hell - I need your presence in my life. Like in it literally! ❤️

    Very helpful talk. You said "Suffering is just a message that we’re not living aligned with truth. We’re forgetting something" Can you say more about this?

    • @danielleleclair1125
      @danielleleclair1125 Před 3 lety +1

      Don't let suffering make you forget your true nature. Getting swept into suffering and making it feed a righteous indignation or ego trip rather than an acceptance and confirmation only increases disconnection and hurt from ourselves and others. This doesn't mean to dissolve into someone else, own your grief and allow it to be. We think we don't have the capacity to hold the tsunamis of emotion that ravage our bodies, which is a lie...we are worthy of it, and remembering that against all the good opinions of others is our inheritance.

    I find it easier or maybe it's just a preference, to have these open heart relationships often with my dogs. I have had only two and both have died, the second being a big part of my coming out of the mourning period from my first. I am now mourning my second.
